SCP-CN-1114 just prior to mating with SCP-CN-1114-2-003, a computer mouse.

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-CN-1114 is to be contained in a 60 x 60 x 60 cm small titanium rodent enclosure, with a 5 cm thick layer of sawdust at the bottom of the interior, a 200 ml water bottle attached to the exterior, and a hamster wheel. Each day, the object is to be provided with 10 g of sunflower seeds, 5 g of radish or sweet potato, and 2 g of mealworms.

The rodent enclosure is to be placed into a 3.5 x 3.5 x 3.5 m standard containment chamber, which is to be illuminated for 12 hours a day and maintained at a temperature of 25°C. The containment chamber may not have gaps larger than 2 cm; ventilation grates are to be made of titanium alloy to prevent damage. Every 5 days, the object's chamber and enclosure are to be cleaned; this includes cleaning the sawdust of droppings and refilling the water bottle. Maintenance personnel are to ensure that they have not come into contact with computer mice in the 6 hours prior to carrying out maintenance; otherwise, personnel are required to wash their hands with sanitizer containing quaternary ammonium salts before proceeding with maintenance.

No computer mice are allowed within 20 m of the object under any circumstances. If a computer mouse must be used within this area, an instance of SCP-CN-1114-3 is to be used.

Description: SCP-CN-1114 appears to be a 126 mm long male orange-furred Syrian hamster, and under normal circumstances has biological features typical for its species. SCP-CN-1114 is able to anomalously detect the presence of computer mice within 20 m, and within the next 57 to 72 seconds will attempt to approach it. At this point, SCP-CN-1114's physical strength and reaction time will anomalously increase; its running speed has been recorded at 10.87 m/s, and it will also be able to damage obstacles in its path.

When SCP-CN-1114 makes contact with its target computer mouse, it will immediately begin mating with it by climbing onto it and rubbing itself against it for 1.8 - 3.6 seconds. Following this, the computer mouse will become "pregnant" and become an instance of SCP-CN-1114-2. After mating, SCP-CN-1114 will seek out and mate with other nearby computer mice until all mice in the area have become instances of SCP-CN-1114-2, or no non-SCP-CN-1114-2 computer mice remain within the 20 m detection range, at which point SCP-CN-1114 will return to its normal state.

SCP-CN-1114-3-001

Upon becoming "pregnant", SCP-CN-1114-2 will cease to function. 15 hours later, based on the type of computer mouse, part of its structure will fall off and develop into a computer mouse with rodent-like features. These "offspring" are designated SCP-CN-1114-3. Besides their unusual appearance, SCP-CN-1114-3's features, operation, and internal structure are identical to those of their parent SCP-CN-1114-2. These entities do not possess any anomalous properties, but will not cause SCP-CN-1114 to enter its anomalous state.

60 - 63 minutes after "giving birth", SCP-CN-1114-2 will through a currently unobserved method recover the lost structural components and return to an operational state.

Dr. Zhou ███████ placed the following items within SCP-CN-114's cage:

しかくPS/2 trackball mouse (SCP-CN-1114-2-001)

SCP-CN-1114 began mating with the computer mouse after 5 seconds; the mouse was designated SCP-CN-1114-2-001. SCP-CN-1114-2-001 was retrieved 60 seconds later and placed within a 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm glass container. 15 hours later, without being moved, SCP-CN-1114-2-001's trackball detached itself from the mouse body and appeared in the corner of the container, after which it "grew" various mouse components over the course of 33 minutes and became SCP-CN-1114-3-001, a PS/2 trackball mouse with rodent-like features. SCP-CN-1114-2-001 regained its trackball through unknown means 60 seconds later, and was confirmed to be functional.

しかくUSB optical mouse (SCP-CN-1114-2-002)

Experiment proceeded similarly to the above; however, the part that detached was the LED light source, and the resulting SCP-CN-1114-3-002 was a USB optical mouse.

しかく USB wireless optical mouse (SCP-CN-1114-2-003)

Experiment proceeded similarly to the above, but the produced SCP-CN-1114-3-003 did not initially have a battery or a receiver. Batteries were inserted and it was confirmed that SCP-CN-1114-3-003 could be paired with any receiver of the same make as that of SCP-CN-1114-2-003.

しかく One female Syrian hamster in heat

The female Syrian hamster was placed into SCP-CN-1114's enclosure for 4 hours. During this period, the two hamsters did not interact. Dr. Zhou retrieved SCP-CN-1114's semen from the previously generated SCP-CN-1114-2; sperm were still alive and DNA content matched those of an ordinary Syrian hamster. Attempted artificial insemination with the female hamster failed to produce offspring.

While Level 2 personnel Wu ██████ was cleaning the containment chamber, Level 1 personnel Zheng ███████ was cleaning out obsolete computer equipment on the floor below, including one trackball mouse. While passing directly under SCP-CN-1114's containment chamber, Zheng ███████ dropped some objects, including the trackball mouse, to teh floor. This caused the mouse to remain within SCP-CN-1114's detection range for 68 seconds, at which point SCP-CN-1114 bit Wu ██████ on the hand, ran out of the cage, and within 2 seconds broke through a ventilation cover and escaped the containment chamber.

SCP-CN-1114 manifested 23 seconds later in the corridor one floor below and immediately began mating with the dropped trackball mouse. Zheng ███████ was caught by surprise and did not take any action. Following this, SCP-CN-1114 broke into a total of 2 testing chambers and 4 observation rooms, mating with a total of 21 computer mice.

Upon discovering the containment breach, Containment Specialist Dr. Wang ██████ retrieved four standard computer mice from the employee breakroom and lured SCP-CN-1114 back to its containment chamber. After SCP-CN-1114 returned to its normal state, it was placed back into the cage.

<Addendum>

We should immediately take stock of the computer mice in the Site and their locations, and replace the computer mice nearest to SCP-CN-1114 with the 29 instances of SCP-CN-1114-3 currently on hand. In the future, when any computer mice are brought into the Site, they are to be registered and their planned usage location recorded; this includes trackpads on laptop computers. While this containment breach was not particularly serious and was resolved successfully, this does not mean that the object's threat level is so low that it can be ignored.

— Dr. Wang ██████, Containment Specialist
