SCP-CN-1080
rating: +3

Item #: SCP-CN-1080

Object Class: Safe Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The object is currently stored in a large safe in Site-CN-██, and in order to protect it the safe should measure 3 m x 3 m x 3 m and be made of two layers of martensitic stainless steel. The object should be attached to the top of the safe to prevent unexpected influence, and four guards with Level 2 clearance or higher shall be stationed around the storage unit. Usage of the object requires approval from one member of personnel with Level 4 or higher clearance; when not in use, the object shall remain sealed in storage. Any personnel who attempt to use the object or open the safe without proper authorization will be dealt with swiftly.

Description: SCP-CN-1080 is a 1.2 m deep copper bell with a bottom opening measuring 1 m. The inscription on the outside of the bell is illegible due to severe damage and oxidation; there is no way to restore the bell. The inscribed text on the bell has been deciphered, and indicates that the object is inextricably linked to its interference with the flow of time. The object's anomalous properties manifest when a force of 300 N or higher acts on the object, at which point the object applying source of the force will be sent to the past. If it is not consumed or destroyed, the object will reappear after a period of time at the location where it disappeared. The time difference and duration of this temporal translocation is proportional to the force applied to the object. Experiment CN-1080-b shows that this object somehow prevents time paradoxes related to it. Currently, there is no way to destroy the object.

Testing shows that some lifeforms retain their memories prior to the change in time, and can ignore the anomalous properties of the object. These lifeforms do not have any biological similarities, and therefore cannot be biologically classified; they are tentatively known as Lifeform-1080s.

Recovery Log: The object was first discovered in the ruins of [DATA EXPUNGED] Temple by a team of archaeologists led by [DATA EXPUNGED]. Due to the rigorous nature of archaeological work, the object's anomalous effects were not activated during this period. However, while the object was on exhibit at the [DATA EXPUNGED] museum, a cleaner accidentally struck the object, and disappeared for 2-3 seconds before reappearing at his original location. This phenomenon caught the attention of Foundation monitoring staff, and the nearest site was notified. █ days later, MTF-辛午-01 ("Border Patrol") successfully brought the object into containment, and all non-Foundation personnel in contact with the item were administered Class-B amnestics.

The text inscribed on the object matches Zhang-Zhung script in both shape and meaning. Analysis of the text reveals that the object was preserved in Ngari Prefecture in the possession of the legendary founder of the Tibetan Bon religion, Tonpa Shenrab Miwo, and that it was used in temporal interference rituals. Besides the text inscribed on the outside of the object, researchers have discovered the five characters Ringing, Allow, God, Health and Yang on the inside of the object. Because of the excessive difficulty of restoration and analysis, other information on the object, such as the actual contents of the aforementioned ritual, remain unknown.

Time: 20██/█/██

Location: Site-CN-██, underground

Process: Dr. Sakuya Fortuna instructed D-13468, a bodybuilding instructor whose arm strength was well above the average adult male's, was instructed to hit the object with a 2 kg hammer. Upon doing so, both the hammer and D-13468 disappeared. The corpse of D-13468 and the hammer reappeared about 15 minutes later; the body was severely deformed to the point of being unrecognizable. Autopsy revealed that the subject likely died of extreme pressure to the torso.

Conclusion: Objects in contact with the object applying source of the force seem to be affected by the effects as well. Following analysis, it was determined that D-13468 had died because the experiment was conducted in an underground room that had been built ██ weeks prior, and he had been transported into a wall. Discussions led to the decision to conduct all further experiments in the aboveground portion of the site.

Time: 20██/█/█

Location: Site-CN-██, aboveground

Process: In order to determine the effects of a time paradox, Dr. Fortuna instructed D-2578 to carry a recording device and, upon being sent back in time, stop himself from using the object. In order to ease the experiment, security checks on areas around the testing chamber were reduced to minimum for ███ hours before and after the experiment, and the testing chamber itself was left open. According to the recorded data, after D-2578 struck the object, he was sent back ██ hours into the past, and appeared in the same testing chamber. Following Dr. Fortuna's orders, the subject left the chamber and approached the D-class dormitories in order to prevent himself from participating in the experiment. The secondary anomalous effects occurred when the subject entered an elevator, at which point the elevator malfunctioned and its safety systems activated, locking it in place with D-2578 inside. After the subject had been in the elevator for ██ minutes, he was returned to the testing chamber at the present time, and the experiment was declared a failure. Of note is that security and testing personnel did not witness anyone leaving the testing chamber and attempting to enter the D-class dormitories.

Conclusion: After repeated tests universally ended in failure, research staff concluded that the object has a certain temporal consistency and will use various coincidences to prevent actions that could lead to the creation of a time paradox, such as killing one's past self or killing one's parents before one's birth. However, the fact that security personnel did not notice D-2578 is still unexplained.

Incident Log CN-1080-c

Time: 20██/█/█

Location: Site-CN-██, aboveground

Description: As the object appeared to be indestructible, Researcher [DATA EXPUNGED] attempted to detonate two kilograms of RDX next to the object in order to verify the object's resistance to damage. The experiment was carried out at a blastproof testing chamber at Site-CN-64, and after the explosives were lit, the flames caused by the explosion were rapidly drawn into the opening at the bottom of the object; according to sensors placed in the room, the shockwave from the explosion was also drawn into the opening. █ hours after the end of the test, Researcher [DATA EXPUNGED] reported to site management that contact with Agent [DATA EXPUNGED] had been lost; it was known that this agent had no direct point of contact. Viewing the agent's personnel dossier showed that he had died █ years ago during site construction of an unexpected explosion, and was the only one to die during this explosion. All personnel directly involved with SCP-CN-1080 remained unaffected.

Conclusion: This experiment incident proves that not only is the object impervious to all known methods of damage, but that it can send sources of force with no physical form, such as shockwaves, into the past just as it can any other source of force. Following the test, the document was revised to reflect this information, and the object was reclassified Euclid. Following the discovery of this hidden danger, site management approved a proposal by Dr. Sakuya Fortuna to stop all testing on this anomaly and semi-permanently seal it.

Notes
. In view of the object's anomalous properties, to avoid touching the object directly, all restoration work shall be conducted virtually on a computer.
. Following Incident CN-1080-c, all instances of "object applying force" have been changed to "source of the force".
. Reckoned to be the hammer in this case.
