Item #: SCP-193-IT

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-193-IT is contained in a standard formalin storage compartment at the morgue of Site Iride.

To maintain containment at acceptable levels, the compartment must be stocked with very high viscosity formaldehyde.

Description: SCP-193-IT is the corpse of British social anthropologist Sir John R. "Jack" Goody, who died on 16/07/2015.

The element rotates at variable speed, following a currently unknown logic, along its longitudinal axis. The source of the energy employed for the rotation is unknown.

Addendum 193-IT-A - Discovery

On 13/10/2024 the element, whose location was believed to be the cemetery in S[REDACTED], Great Britain, and whose anomalous nature was not known, was spotted spinning at a very high speed at a static point about six hundred and fifty metres above the apex of the roof of the Nobel Foundation headquarters in Stockholm by a lookout officer of the Nordic Branch of the SCP Foundation.

Thanks to the cooperation between the Nordic, French-speaking, German-speaking, Serbo-Croatian, Turkish and Italian Foundation the following movements of the anomaly were studied; in the course of the following week it moved, remaining in the same vertical position, above the universities of Berlin-Humboldt, Paris-Sorbonne, Zadar, Oslo, Rome-Sapienza, to finally stop, on 21/10/2024, about two hundred and fifty metres above the university of Turin, where it was intercepted by a State Police helicopter operated jointly by the police force and SIR-II.

The current containment procedures were adopted once the effectiveness of the normal procedure of preserving human bodies for study purposes was observed, with the addition of high-viscosity formaldehyde to avoid structural damage to the containment compartment.

Addendum 193-IT-B - Practical application of anomaly and related developments

A hypothesis of practical application of the anomalous characteristics of SCP-193-IT was advanced on 22/10/2024 by engineer Diomede Vettori and professor Valentina Negarville of the Anomalous Materials Division (Advanced Engineering Section): using a pre-existing prototype kinetic recycling chamberSee Site Vulcano Project Archive, Vol. VI., the possibility of employing the element's rotation as a source of electrical energy that could be used in the Containment Site's network would be evaluated. The attempt itself would have ascertained the energy output of the anomaly.

The containment of SCP-193-IT at the Site Vulcano was approved for the period 23/10/2024 - 13/11/2024; in order to avoid excessive expenditure of time and resources, the Site Vulcano was designated as the first Containment Site in place of the Site Iride. The interaction of SCP-193-IT with the kinetic recycling chamber demonstrated the usefulness of the anomaly as a generic source of energy, albeit not particularly useful for the purposes of powering the Site Vulcano’s electricity grid.

On 25/10/2024, at 15:15, the rotational speed of SCP-193-IT began to increase, reaching a hypothesised peak in the order of thousands of rotations per minute at around 16:43 and decelerating rapidly thereafter. The high speed and considerable acceleration temporarily compromised the operation of the power supply in the Prototype Wing of the Site Vulcano and irreparably damaged the kinetic recycling chamber. The use of SCP-193-IT in any further practical project is prohibited.
