Mask removed from SCP-1109 during experiment

Item #: SCP-1109-RU

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1109 is to be contained in a chamber measuring 3 x 3 meters (three by three) with a height of no less than 2 (two) meters. The walls and floor of the chamber must be made of concrete and lined with sheet steel at least 2 (two) millimeters thick, with tightly fitted edges. The entrance door must close securely, leaving no gaps whatsoever. In the center of the chamber, there must be a metal chair welded to the floor, on which the object is placed. Protected surveillance cameras, covered with reinforced plexiglass, must be installed in the corners near the ceiling.

No objects are allowed to be left in the containment chamber unless specified by experimental conditions. One armed guard must be stationed at the door at all times. Guard shifts are changed every 6 (six) hours.

Description: SCP-1109 resembles a rag doll depicting a thin male figure (based on body proportions), with an outer layer made of tanned human leather. The object weighs 12.7 kilograms and stands 82 cm tall. Its interior consists of straw and intertwined linen threads, material analysis has revealed no anomalies. A carnival mask, stylistically linked to the Renaissance era, is placed over its head. Beneath the mask, there is no face - only smooth skin with human eyes of different colors (brown and green) sewn onto it. DNA analysis indicates that the eyes belong to the same male individual.

The object shows no signs of life as long as at least one awake person is within 10 (ten) meters from it. If there are no people within the specified radius, or if they are asleep or unconscious, the object begins to move. In this case, sleeping individuals typically enter a deep sleep and experience dreams of various circus performances featuring clowns and acrobats. Notably, the circus setting in these dreams corresponds to a venue the sleeper has seen in reality. If the individual has no such experience, the performance will take place on some other stage in their dream.

In its active state, SCP-1109 moves somewhat abruptly and unnaturally, resembling a marionette controlled by a puppeteer. During its active phase, the object moves around the room, interacting with all available items, dismantling or breaking them, and constructing various devices from the resulting materials. It then uses these devices as traps, displaying remarkable ingenuity and cunning. This behavior suggests that the object may possess intelligence; however, no instances of communication have been recorded to date. All attempts (visual and auditory) to establish contact have been completely ignored by the object.

Attempting to remove the mask from SCP-1109 resulted in Incident 1109-A, which led to the death of all personnel in the room.

The object was discovered in the city of [REDACTED], France, in 1994. It was located in a basement of a building undergoing restoration, hidden in a secret niche within a brick-sealed wall. After its discovery, workers handed the object over to the local museum. A few months later, an unusually high number of accidents resulting in various injuries began to be reported. The media described these events as a poltergeist manifestation, attracting the attention of Foundation personnel who were on assignment in the area. Agents subsequently conducted an investigation. Due to the nature of the object, its capture and transportation to Site-7 were accomplished without difficulty.

Incident 1109-A: During the experiment, three D-Class personnel (D-516-3, D-516-4, and D-516-6) and a Level 2 research staff member were present in the containment chamber. When D-516-4 attempted to remove the mask from SCP-1109, the object emitted a low-frequency sound pulse, causing all personnel within a 10-15 meter radius to lose consciousness. The object then entered its active state. SCP-1109 took a ballpoint pen from the research staff member and gouged out his eyes. It then approached D-516-4, broke his fingers, and also gouged out his eyes. D-516-3 died from brain damage caused by the same pen, which was inserted through the ear canal. SCP-1109 then approached D-516-6, forced his mouth open, and thrust its hand down his throat, after which [DATA EXPUNGED], resulting in the victim's abdominal cavity being torn open. Taking advantage of blood covering the surveillance camera lenses, the object managed to construct a trap using D-516-6’s entrails, designed to fire a rib fragment. The trap injured the first guard to arrive at the containment chamber.

Addendum 1109-001: A series of experiments was conducted involving the placement of SCP-1109 in a D-Class personnel living block. For details, see Experiment Log 1109-RU.

Addendum 1109-002: After Incident 1109-A, a second attempt to remove the mask from 1109 was made using mechanized equipment, which was successful. Despite the object emitting another low-frequency sound pulse, no further signs of activity were observed. No personnel were harmed.

Approximately 10 hours after the completion of the experiment, all sleeping individuals within an 8 (eight) kilometer radius of the mask began experiencing nightmarish dreams involving 1109. In these dreams, the object tortured the victims, inflicting various forms of torment, and demanded the return of "what was stolen". Although the process caused no physical damage, its psychological and neurological impact was highly detrimental, leading to nervous breakdowns and the development of various phobias and manias. The Zone's administration decided to return the mask to the object, which was done 54 hours after its removal. Immediately following this, all instances of 1109 infiltrating dreams ceased (except within the standard 10-meter radius).

Partial list of traps set by SCP-1109 during experiments:

- pieces of broken glass inserted into an electric toothbrush;
- placement of sharp objects in shoes and clothing;
- modification of electrical and mechanical equipment, making them extremely dangerous to use;
- use of nuts, screws, and bolts unscrewed from available equipment in mechanical traps using kinetic energy, as well as in devices resembling crossbows;
- addition of various items and chemicals into food products;
- exposing wiring and using other conductors to transmit electrical current to the victim, typically using water and metal structures; in one case, the body of one of the victims was used;
- placement of flammable and combustible substances near kitchen stoves and heating systems;
- setting tripwires near stairs and furniture with sharp corners;
- lubricating stair steps, handrails, tool holders, and other surfaces with oily substances;
- setting traps based on objects falling from heights.
