SCP-071-IT-1-A on SCP-071-IT during the first recording log
Item #: SCP-071-IT
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-071-IT must be contained within a standard containment room at Vesta Site.
The room must be well-lit at all times and surveillance cameras must record the front and back of SCP-071-IT 24/7, audio included.
To allow easier filming, SCP-071-IT must be lifted vertically into the air by steel cables passed through the four holes in the corners of the object.
Personnel have free access to the containment room of SCP-071-IT, and a polarized glass window was inserted for free observation.
Note from Dr. Simone Cortesi: Please, for all junior researchers assigned to viewing SCP-071-IT recordings, I ask you not to save recordings of your colleagues/peers visiting the aforementioned containment room for personal purposes. The Server only has a certain capacity, and if there are any problems you will receive a disciplinary notice and we will deduct the cost of the technical maintenance from your paycheck. You have been warned.
Description: SCP-071-IT is a deer hide later identified as that of a Cervus elaphus from the Bronze Age, measuring 250x150 centimeters and in perfect condition, with a variegated brown and gray fur.
SCP-071-IT previously belonged to the clothing found with the Similaun Mummy "Ötzi", and it is assumed that the skin must have served as a cold weather cloak.
The anomalous properties of SCP-071-IT are randomly activated (even months or years apart), always followed by a very rough tribal rhythm that are usually audible within a 50-meter radius from the containment room.
On rare occasions, the voice of an unidentified woman may also be heard along with the background sound.
At the end of the music, the anomalous properties of SCP-071-IT will manifest, creating Bronze-colored incisions on the grain of the skin; these incisions will create "scenes" such as an animation consisting in 5 events, which will occur at random dates and times, repeating continuously from first to last.
SCP-071-IT-1-A "The Shepherd"
He is depicted as a stylized adult man, sometimes the arms are out of proportion or the animations are very crude. He appears to be a shepherd of sheeps.
SCP-071-IT-1-B "Consort of the Shepherd"
Depicted via stylization of an adult woman, no distinguishing marks other than a few wisps of ruffled hair.
SCP-071-IT-1-C "Son of the Shepherd"
Small stylized man which depicts a small child of about 8-9 years old.
He always carries a small trinket in his hands.
SCP-071-IT-1-D "Elderly Shepherd"
A stylized shepherd holding a staff, has a hunched posture and is wearing a cloak, from this it is assumed to be a person of old age.
SCP-071-EN-2 "Sheeps"
Simple stylized sheep, their animations are very crude.
On ██/██/2015, the scenes began to play back in a distance of months, rather than years like during the beginning of the containment.
Recovery: Several reports of "disturbing noises" heard by some passers-by, who claimed they were coming from inside the Bolzano museum, alerted the SIR-I, which immediately got in action to conduct an inspection of the museum offices and to recover the surveillance tapes.
Audio recorded at 01:43 of ██/██/2008 inside the laboratories of the Archaeological Museum. The lights had been turned off and therefore the video recording could not be recovered.
A cover-up process was then initiated, informations regarding the coat were removed from museum records and online databases. On ██/██/20██ SCP-071-IT was removed from the museum via a fictitious Foundation artifact restoration agency, and was replaced with an accurate reproduction plant fiber cloak.
VIDEO RECORDINGS LOGS
The following documents are transcripts of SCP-071-IT recordings in its active state.
Start sequence
07:35 - SCP-071-IT-1 "The Shepherd" first appears in the lower left corner of SCP-071-IT's surface; crudely depicts a male human being.
07:37 - A dozen figures, now named as SCP-071-IT-2, appear in the right side of the skin; they appear to represent a group of normal herding sheep (Ovis aries).
07:40 - The Shepherd and the Sheeps begin to move seemingly randomly around the area.
07:42 - The Shepherd reaches the herd of Sheeps and performs some gestures with his arms, after some hesitation the Sheeps start to follow him.
07:43 - The figures move towards the right edge of SCP-071-IT and disappear as they cross it.
07:50 - A pair of researchers enter the room with papers and pens.
07:51 - A researcher who got too close to the object becomes frightened as The Shepherd appears from the left edge, followed by the herd of Sheeps. At the same time, a stylized fire appears on the right side and two other figures, the Shepherd's Consort and Son holding hands.
07:52 - The Shepherd approaches the fire with the sheeps in tow, the other two figures near the fire jump at the sight of the Shepherd.
07:53 - The sheeps move inside a newly appeared enclosure and slowly disappear.
07:55 - The small group of figures begin to dance around the fire.
08:01 - Figures and fire disappear, no other activity recorded.
End of sequence
Start sequence
04:27 - The Shepherd appears in the right part of the "canvas" with a stick in his hand, in the left part an empty fence.
04:28 - The Shepherd moves towards the fence. As he arrives, the figure seems to tremble and subsequently looks around.
04:33 - For 5 minutes the Shepherd runs around the perimeter looking for the Sheeps, which were previously locked in the fence.
04:35 - The Shepherd, after stopping for a moment, moves to the right side and disappears
04:40 - The Shepherd reappears after 5 minutes from the left side of SCP-071-IT, several huts and various instances of stylized little men (of both genders) also appear.
04:42 - The Shepherd approaches one of these figures and begins gesturing with his hands (we assume this is an animated conversation).
04:50 - After a few minutes of conversation other figures approach to discuss, until some pull out spears and point them at the defenseless Shepherd, who is forced to flee.
04:53 - The Shepherd runs off to the left side of the floor and disappears along with the rest of the scene. No other activity recorded.
End of sequence
Start sequence
16:48 - The Shepherd's Consort and Son appear on the left side of the skin, they are sitting around the fire.
16:52 - The figures are almost motionless near the fire, until the Shepherd's Son collapses to the ground.
16:53 - The Consort jumps to her feet and approaches the Son to check on him, immediately running to the right where a hut appears which she enters into.
16:54 - After a while the Woman comes out of the hut empty handed and reaches for her Son, sitting down next to him.
16:56 - The Shepherd appears from the right side of the surface and goes left past the house; after seeing the Consort and Son, he kneels on the ground and watches the other two figures.
16:57 - Some "tears" descend from the Man's face.
16:58 - The Consort gets up and walks over to the Shepherd and hugs him.
17:05 - The Consort stops hugging the Shepherd and returns to her Son, meanwhile the Shepherd gets up and enters the hut.
17:15 - The Shepherd exits the house holding a bow, a quiver with several arrows, and backpack-like containers.
17:16 - The Shepherd walks over to the Consort and begins to argue while waving his arms in the air.
17:17 - The Shepherd turns and walks upwards, the Consort tries to stop him but fails, the Shepherd disappears leaving the scene.
17:20 - Consort kneels for 3 minutes, then gets up and walks back to her Son.
17:21 - Woman pats Son's head, then picks him up and carries him inside the hut.
17:25 - The hut slowly dissolves. No other activity recorded.
End of sequence
Start sequence
03:02 - The Shepherd appears in the lower part of SCP-071-IT with the equipment he brought with him in the previous scene, also several unidentified trees appear in the scene.
03:03 - Trees begin to move as if moved by the wind and the Shepherd begins to walk upwards.
03:20 - More than a quarter of an hour passes in which the Shepherd goes to the top of the skin, disappears and reappears at the bottom along with an ever changing environment. Every so often the Man stops to rest near a tree.
03:21 - While the Shepherd is resting, a Sheep appears near a tree on the right side of the surface and moves towards the Shepherd.
03:22 - The Shepherd spots the Sheep and grabs his bow, but the instance realizes the danger and runs off to the right until it disappears over the edge, it is followed by the armed Shepherd and both disappear to the right side.
03:23 - The scene slowly disappears only to have the sheep reappear with the Shepherd behind it.
03:25 - The sheep hits a stone in its run and falls giving the Shepherd time to grab his bow and shoot an arrow to hit the sheep.
03:26 - Droplets that are presumed to be blood descend from the spot where the sheep was hit. The Shepherd approaches the animal.
03:27 - The Shepherd reaches down towards the instance and with a sort of dagger inflicts a killing blow on the animal.
03:30 - While the Shepherd with the knife in his hand tries to take the sheep away, another Shepherd approaches with a stick in his hand, followed by other sheeps.
03:30 - The Elder Shepherd approaches and begins gesturing at the Shepherd.
03:34 - The arguing goes on for a while, until the Shepherd pushes the Elder away causing him to fall on a rock.
03:37 - The Shepherd backs away to the left side, the Elder Shepherd does not move and his staff lies next to him.
03:40 - 3 other men approach with sticks and bows, one of them fires an arrow that hits the Shepherd.
03:41 - The group of men approach the Shepherd who now lies on the ground bleeding, as the scene slowly fades away. No other activity recorded.

19:11 - It begins to rain.
19:12 - The Consort collapses to the ground, and begins to cry.
19:14 - Some men appear from the right sideholding fire torches and spears as the scene gradually fades away.
20:10 - To the surprise of a couple of researchers present, a snowfall is depicted in the skin, slowly several boulders and snow-covered rocks appear.
20:12 - An unidentified man appears in the lower right corner of SCP-071-IT, he is dragging another man near the center (later identified as the Shepherd because of his bow).
20:16 - The instance succeeds in dragging the Shepherd to the center of the scene, and then leaves the way he came there.
20:30 - The snow gets deeper and deeper, covering the now dead Shepherd who lies next to a rock.
20:42 - The Shepherd is no longer visible, the only thing observable is the falling snow as the scene fades out. No other activity recorded.

Supplementary Section
The following note was left in the office next to the SCP-071-IT containment room.
Note by Dr. Simone Cortesi:
I think I will do some research on SCP-071-IT, its recovery has made me very curious.
After some time spent reading about Ötzi's life and after seeing the recording logs, I was amazed by the existence of this anomaly, which led me to binge around his containment chamber in order not to miss the next activation event.
It was magnificent, I'm almost speechless, such an anomaly deserves better, and that's why I have made a request to the site director for a better containment cell to allow the observation of the anomaly by the entire staff.
Yesterday I even went to the museum in Bolzano with my daughter. I saw her interested in the history of Ötzi and linger a lot in front of the shrine where his body is conserved. Too bad I can't tell her about his real story….
Today I'll be transferred to ██████ site, I'm really sorry I won't be able to watch the SCP-071-IT activation events anymore, I really hope my former colleagues find this anomaly as fascinating as I did.
