Item #: SCP-010-PT
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the anomalous nature of the reproduction methods of SCP-010-PT, its complete containment is impossible. Containment efforts should be conducted by MTF PT9-Epsilon ("Carochinhas"). Task Force agents should infiltrate rural communities suspected of being located near SCP-010-PT, in addition to tracking the means of communication for keywords listed in Document 010-PT-5451. Such mentions should be defamed as urban legends and individuals involved in sightings should be administered Class-C or B amnestics, depending on the individual's conviction. For statistical and research means, all recognized instances of SCP-010-PT must be registered in Document 010-PT-Y451.
Agents are instructed to propagate information that discourages retention of SCP-010-PT-1. Event 010-PT-2-Alpha Observers should be administered Class-A amnestics if necessary. Individuals directly involved in the Event are not recoverable and must be considered missing indefinitely.
SCP-010-PT, as well as SCP-010-PT-1 and SCP-010-PT-2 are not considered threats at the moment and neutralizing the instances is not recommended, due to the benefits offered to the flora covered by their effects. In the event that SCP-010-PT-2 becomes hostile, personnel must report such change in behavior immediately to the Containment Team 010 for emergency development of new containment procedures.
After tests carried out on 09/02/20██, future efforts in communication and direct interaction with SCP-010-PT-1 and SCP-010-PT-2 can only be made by D-Class personnel.
Description: SCP-010-PT is an arboreal species similar to gameleiras (Ficus insipida) of size and foliage with characteristics typically found in non-anomalous specimens. Unlike non-anomalous specimens, SCP-010-PT has a great abundance of woody vines, covering at least 70% of its branches and trunks, in addition to the capability fruit generation (designated SCP-010-PT-1) that generate humanoid entities (SCP-010-PT-2), in addition to serving to this species as 'gateways' to a large 'hive' interconnected to every existing specimen of SCP-010-PT, referred to as SCP-010-PT-3.
Specimens of SCP-010-PT do not appear to regenerate when damaged or be affected by weather fluctuations. Removal of any part of SCP-010-PT causes that part to evaporate into a cloud of dense, toxic smoke composed of varying levels of CO, H2O and SO2 whitin a 1 m3 radius, causing temporary amnesia in sapient subjects who inhale the gas. Attempts to access SCP-010-PT-3 by known means (such as probes, drilling or cutting) were unsuccessful, and show the interior of SCP-010-PT as a non-anomalous tree trunk. The reproduction of SCP-010-PT appears to be random, affecting any gameleira specimen appearing in the wild; reproduction of SCP-010-PT in gameleiras cultivated indoors was unsuccessful.
SCP-010-PT-1 is a spherical-cylindrical fruit, with a concave bottom and an exterior similar to a Cuban pepper (Capsicum annum) of the red variety. When opened, it expels an SCP-010-PT-2 specimen through its opening, affixed to the object by a thin, colorless structure of viscous organic material, similar to the clitellum present in annelids; such structure does not prevent SCP-010-PT-1 from being detachable from SCP-010-PT-2, an act that causes great distress in the entity. Removal of SCP-010-PT by its stem results in smoke evaporation and does not generate SCP-010-PT-2, regardless of fruit development.
SCP-010-PT-2 are dark brown, sapient and sentient humanoid beings, measuring approximately 1.38 cm in height, with an anatomy similar to that of an adult between 20 and 50 years old. SCP-010-PT-2 has no solid lower limbs, having instead an appendage composed of a gaseous mass of black smoke of changeable radius and density, which the entity uses to move through a rectilinear centrifugal process at a speed reaching up to 30 km/h. Its skin appears to be composed of organic material similar to burnt tree bark and its face is reminiscent of a human with African features, except for its eyes and teeth, which have a reddish color, distinguishable even in areas with little exposure to light (-0.002 lux). SCP-010-PT-2 does not have any objects or apparel in their possession other than SCP-010-PT-1 on its head, and further testing reveals that any material affixed to the entity ‘goes through’ its body. As shown in the Exploration Log, objects affixed to the internal part of SCP-010-PT-1 can be transported together with the entity when it inserts itself into SCP-010-PT-3 and retrieved upon it leaving.
Discovery: Agent ██████, during their annual visit to their relatives, owners and residents of a farm in █████████-SP, reported seeing a "great black mass" moving moments after their relatives expressing frustration upon observing local disorder (presumably caused by SCP-010-PT-2). Agent ██████ reported the incident to their superiors, which led to in-depth investigations by the Foundation. After chasing several instances of SCP-010-PT-2, SCP-010-PT was discovered, as well as SCP-010-PT-1. SCP-010-PT-3 was confirmed as a proper location after the exploration performed on 09/02/20██. The possibility and methods of capturing SCP-010-PT-1, as well as ‘deals’ offered in exchange for SCP-010-PT-2 have been discovered by studies of popular superstition and urban legends, confirmed as partially true.
SCP-010-PT-2 has hereditary habits: At ‘birth’, specimens seek low-density population areas (such as farms and rural villages) near SCP-010-PT, moving using its gaseous appendage, completely covering its physical body. Upon arriving at the location, SCP-010-PT-2 attempts to enter through open doors, windows or chimneys and commits acts of minor 'maliciousness' With rare exceptions, none of the actions have obvious hostile motivations. Upon completing such actions, SCP-010-PT-2 hides in unsuspected areas of the residence in order to wait for the residents of the location to voice some feeling of frustration caused by SCP-010-PT-2's actions.
After said location gets absent of any sapient presence (or 2h after the frustration vocalization is completed), SCP-010-PT-2 leaves its hiding place and returns to SCP-010-PT. Analyzes with atmospheric sensors captured high carbon dioxide emission by subjects performing vocalizations, considerably higher than those produced by hematosis. Upon returning to SCP-010-PT, the entity attaches the upper end of SCP-010-PT-1 (stem) to a branch and enters the opening of SCP-010-PT-1, transporting itself to SCP-010-PT-3. The ‘ring’ in contact with the viscous substance that affixed the object to the head of SCP-010-PT-2 is disposed of in the process through evaporation (reducing its size permanently), and SCP-010-PT-1 contracts into a concave shape, sealing its opening until SCP-010-PT-2 is expelled again. The process is repeated until SCP-010-PT is reduced to 20% of its original size.
If SCP-010-PT-1 is manually removed from SCP-010-PT-2 by a sapient individual, the entity will vocalize expressions of frustration through communication and various noises. Such communication is always done in Yoruba and the receiver will always understand and respond with fluent diction and offer a ‘deal’ in exchange for SCP-010-PT-1. As evident in several Experiment Logs, SCP-010-PT-2 prefers to enter into deals that are not overly complex, specific, risky, or out of its countryside character.
If a deal is not accepted or approved within 1 hour of holding SCP-010-PT-1, SCP-010-PT-2 will execute Event 010-PT-2-Alpha. During the event, SCP-010-PT-2 starts running and 'jumping' erratically around the individual in possession of the object, emitting high levels of carbon dioxide in a dense smoke, in addition to high-pitched vocalizations for 30 minutes. Unlike smoke generated by damage to SCP-010-PT, such smoke does not appear to be affectable by any known means and is impenetrable and indispersible for the duration of the effect; pre-established means of communication show that the affected individual enters a catatonic state during the process. After the aforementioned period, SCP-010-PT-1, SCP-010-PT-2 and the individual previously in possession of the object cannot be located, and the resulting smoke will gradually evaporate into a dense cloud that has the same amnestic properties that are emitted by SCP-010-PT, affecting a radius of up to 750 m3. All specimens involved are considered terminated at this point.
INTERVIEW LOG 010-PT-2
DATE: 09/02/20██
OBJECT(S) INVOLVED: SCP-010-PT-2
PERSONNEL INVOLVED: Dr. Silva C████, Officer ████████, Officer ██████, Officer ████████, D-20885, D-20886.
PREFACE: The following interview was conducted with an SCP-010-PT-2 contained in the residence of Mr. ████ ████████ ███████, built on the land of his legume farm. A Research Team 010-PT-2 was previously stablished on the residence after identifying an SCP-010-PT instance close to the location (SCP-010-PT-201MG), in an effort to conduct capture and communication with the specimen, in order to improve understanding of the nature and motives of the entity(ies). Other interviews can be found in Document 010-PRR
The instance was identified by video cameras as it entered the residence's kitchen and hid in the cabinet under the room's sink, after committing its disorderly actions. The cabinet was opened and SCP-010-PT-1 was quickly contained by throwing a cast net while it attempted to flee the site. All communication was done in Yoruba and later translated/adapted.
[BEGIN LOG]
SCP-010-PT-2: I exchange hat for request. Just one, nothing more.
Dr. Silva C████: What will you do if I don't want to exchange?
SCP-010-PT-2: You will suffer as I suffer.
Dr. Silva C████: Right. I'll ask you a few questions and return your hat after you answer them, okay?
SCP-010-PT-2: So be it. There are questions that have no answer.
Dr. Silva C████: What are you?
SCP-010-PT-2: Son of the smoke of Osanyin and Oluwere. We've already taken many names.
Dr. Silva C████: Where did you come from?
SCP-010-PT-2: The womb of the smoke in orun funfun, tongue of iroko. Away from aiyé, living man does not enter.
Dr. Silva C████: What are you doing here?
SCP-010-PT-2: Catch smoke. Take it to mother who receives and breathes life into the woods.
Dr. Silva C████: Where is your mother?
SCP-010-PT-2: Children live in the belly of iroko.
Dr. Silva C████: How do you and other children go to iroko?
SCP-010-PT-2: Enter through the throat. Living man does not enter. Stuff that comes in doesn't come out, only son.
Dr. Silva C████: You mentioned collecting smoke. How does this involve your actions in this house?
SCP-010-PT-2: I make men see unexpected sadness, remember surprise and anger. I mess up the man's soul to free man from peace.
Dr. Silva C████: Is peace a bad thing?
SCP-010-PT-2: Peace poisons like smoke. Aiyé needs anger to be smart, not to be eaten by the jungle dweller.
Dr. Silva C████: Are you free?
SCP-010-PT-2: Work does not hold anyone prisoner.
Dr. Silva C████: Can you live without this job?
SCP-010-PT-2: Work is gift from mother. No work, mother abandons. Abandonment kills.
Dr. Silva C████: What is death to you?
SCP-010-PT-2: <silence for 10 seconds.> Death is not coming back home. Death is losing life and losing mother, being left in aiyé to disappear without a voice while iroko gets pregnant to compensate. We don't work longer than a spring, but we're still afraid of losing our lives without warning.
Dr. Silva C████: I understand. One last question. You mentioned a "forest dweller" before. Who would this dweller be?
SCP-010-PT-2: The Lady, and her children who guard the jungle and scrub. They don't like the men from the city, men who hunt and don't eat. Grabs for herself what is most precious to these men. Fair trade.
Dr. Silva C████: Does this lady also come from orun funfum?
SCP-010-PT-2: Secrets of the Lady are secrets of the jungle. We only know the secrets of the woods.
Dr. Silva C████: What secrets of the woods do you know?
SCP-010-PT-2: All. Holy water from tongueless iroko kills evil from the earth and kills rash. Kills men too, if you're not smart.
[END LOG]
Closing Statement: SCP-010-PT-1 was delivered to SCP-010-PT-2 following the end of the interview. SCP-010-PT-2 could be seen moving towards SCP-010-PT-201MG.
SCP-010-PT-3 is a scaled-down complex (1/60), populated by possibly all of the existing SCP-010-PY-2, ‘resized’ according to the scale, as well as any material transported with the entity. SCP-010-PT-3 is accessed via the opening present in SCP-010-PT-1, but it is only accessible when SCP-010-PT-2 goes through it, not being present otherwise. Materials transported by SCP-010-PT-3 work in a standard way, but enter an 'assimilation' process after 2h, at which time the material joins the internal structure of the location until it is transfigured into wood.
SCP-010-PT-3 appears to be accessible via any SCP-010-PT-1, and hypotheses have been raised that the location is not physically accessible by any known place on the planet and its state is just a extradimensional ‘hub’, through which SCP-010-PT-2 transports toxins collected during its ‘hunt’ outside and takes them to a ‘nucleus’, which processes the stored toxins, accelerating the production of glucose in SCP-010-PT and any other plant present within a radius of 1 km2 by unknown means. This process takes about 12 hours to complete, starting during the day and ending at night.
A brief exploration of SCP-010-PT-3 can be found in the following appendix.

18h35m: SCP-010-PT-2 enters the stove's oven.
18h36m: D-20885 is asked to go to the kitchen.
18h36m: D-20885 arrives at the kitchen and comments negatively on the state of the room. Atmospheric meters record +100 PPM of CO2 and CO during their vocalizations.
18h38m: D-20885 leaves the room.
18h39m: SCP-010-PT-2 leaves its hiding place and tries to escape.
18h39m: Capture procedures are put in place by 2 security officers using a polyethylene mesh.
18h40m: Capture and removal of SCP-010-PT-1 by Dr. ███████ successfully performed.
18h40m: SCP-010-PT-2 offers a deal to Dr. ███████, who proposes the return of SCP-010-PT-1 under the condition that SCP-010-PT-2 returns to the residence within a period of 2 hours at maximum. SCP-010-PT-2 accepts the deal.
18h41m: Dr. ███████ secretly inserts a microcamera into the inner surface of SCP-010-PT-1, and returns it to the entity.
18h42m: SCP-010-PT-2 takes SCP-010-PT-1 and repositions it on its head. No signs of distrust or discomfort were observed during the process.
18h43m: SCP-010-PT-2 leaves the residence through the main kitchen window.
18h43m: SCP-010-PT-2 starts its travel to SCP-010-PT-1647RN.
[INSIGNIFICANT DATA REMOVED]
19h20m: SCP-010-PT-2 comes within 1 m of SCP-010-PT-1647RN.
19h21m: SCP-010-PT-2 starts its process of affixing SCP-010-PT-1 to a branch of SCP-010-PT.
19h22m: Camera shows the head of SCP-010-PT-2 approaching and disappearing completely. Outside cameras show SCP-010-PT-1 'inverting' and sealing its underside.
19h22m: GPS signal lost. Camera supposedly transported to SCP-010-PT-3.
19h23m: Camera shows a cylindrical interior of what appears to be the inside of a hollow tree, with wood lined with vines commonly found on the exterior of SCP-010-PT. It is possible to observe small perforations covering much of the covered structure; hypotheses suggest the such perforations are individual tunnels, each leading to an unit of SCP-010-PT-1. A pillar of dim light (=>0.1 lux) from an unidentified source extends from the top to the bottom of the location. ███ SCP-010-PT-2 entities can be observed (████ with night vision). Note: Observations lead to the calculation that the circumference of SCP-010-PT-3 has a radius of ███ meters, but due to the lack of camera movement, it was not possible to make a reliable analysis of the size of the location.
19h24m: ██ SCP-010-PT-2 instances approach the pillar. █ move away.
19h26m: Approaching instances initiate apparently random (or in an unknown language) vocalizations.
19h28m: Instances initiate erratic and rhythmic movements, supposedly a type of choreography or ritualistic dance; vocalizations continue.
19h32m: Traces of smoke transpire from the instances participating in the ritual; smoke is attracted and absorbed by the pillar of light.
19h33m: All ██ instances cease their movements and vocalizations. Other ██ instances take their places, repeating the ritual.
19h34m: Entities previously participating in the ritual wander around the location, meeting with other instances present. Approximately ███ small groups can be noted, made of █ to █ entities each.
19h37m: Group █7 can be seen vocalizing noises. Body language analysis indicates they are participating in a conversation. ‘Laughs’ can be heard.
19h47m: Group █1 climbs the structure's vines. Some entities ‘fall’ in the process.
19h49m: Entities that fell go back to participate in the activity. Entities that previously climbed begin descent. The process is repeated several times.
19h55m: Group █5 moves through the air rolling their bodies back and forth. Some perform the activity with their arms extended forward.
20h02m: An entity vigorously pursues members of Group █6, while the group avoids it.
20h09m: Entity restrains one of the members of Group █6 and then releases it. Both entities vocalize high-pitched noises during the process. Restrained member initiates chase of other members, now including the previously highlighted entity.
20h15m: Group █9 separates.
20h17m: █ entities from group(?) insert themselves in the structure's tunnels.
[INSIGNIFICANT DATA REMOVED]
20h25m: SCP-010-PT-2 enters the tunnel where the camera is attached. ‘Opening’ process of SCP-010-PT-1 started.
20h25m: Leave performed with success and registered by external cameras.
20h26m: SCP-010-PT-2 starts its travel to Area-P33-PT.
[INSIGNIFICANT DATA REMOVED]
21h00m: SCP-010-PT-2 enters the residence through the main kitchen window. Capture procedures started.
21h00m: SCP-010-PT-1 and 2 are succesfully contained. Dr. ███████ takes possession of SCP-010-PT-1 to retrieve the camera used during the exploration.
21h01m: SCP-010-PT-2 expresses signs of frustration and aggression through vocalizations and body gestures.
21h02m: Gaseous mass begins to manifest in the room, concentrating mainly around SCP-010-PT-2 and Dr. ███.
21h04m: Evacuation orders are sent to all personnel in the residence. All but Dr. ███████ obey.
21h05m: Security officers are ordered to retrieve Dr. ██████. Orders are ignored.
21h05m: Event 010-PT-2-Alpha initiated. Audiovisual contact with Dr. ██████ is lost.
21h22m: Event 010-PT-2-Alpha finalized. No signs of SCP-010-PT-1, SCP-010-PT-2 and Dr. ██████ could be found. Camera successfully retrieved without significant damage.
