Item #: SCP-005-FR

Threat Level: Green くろまる

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-005-FR is currently contained in Site ██. SCP-005-FR must be kept in a pot in a 5m x 5m x 3m room equipped with ultraviolet lights, so that the Object is in contact with the earth and may grow normally. The air vent located on the ceiling of the room must operate continuously at maximum power and must be serviced daily. The incinerator connected to it must operate continuously and may be serviced by level 1 personnel. The ventilation system is equipped with a back-up generator which will activate automatically in the event of a power cut and has a battery with a five (5) day operating time.

No containment breach has occurred to date, but in case of any eventuality, an incineration system has been installed in the Object's containment room and in the corridors of Site ██ to prevent the potential proliferation of spores. An airlock has also been installed to prevent any biological proliferation during tests. Two armed guards stationed at the entrance to the airlock are responsible for stopping anyone attempting to access the room without written authorisation or Dr. Hideous' agreement, and are authorised to use force if necessary. Personnel involved in ventilation or incinerator maintenance must wear gas masks and must not remove them under any circumstances during the maintenance sessions assigned to them.

Any personnel suspected of having inhaled spores of the Item must be quarantined for 96 hours in order to break the potential psychic link established with the plant (see Addendum 005-FR-01). The guards posted at the entrance to the airlock must be permanently equipped with gas masks, available in the corridor leading to the airlock.

Site ██ includes a quarantine facility and pieces of SCP-005-FR used for testing must be kept in the biological section of Site ██.

Description: SCP-005-FR is a Rafflesia arnoldii flower of the Rafflesiaceae family, one hundred and twenty-five (125) centimetres in diameter, commonly found in Indonesian forests. Analyses carried out on a sample of the plant revealed no anomalies in its composition.
The spores of SCP-005-FR give off an odour that is described as ‘exhilarating’ and ‘bewitching’, having the effect of forcing any living being within a radius of one hundred (100) metres to move inexorably towards the object. From a distance of fifty (50) metres around the plant, those attracted may experience convulsions, nausea and vomiting. In some cases, subjects reported that they felt unwell, but that they were determined to find the source of the smell. Within ten (10) metres of the plant, victims of the ‘attraction’ begin to experience severe hallucinations and delusions. They may see things that do not exist, or are not physically present in the area (animals, insects and monsters,) or things that no longer exist (deceased relatives, deceased personalities, etc.). The subliminal effect of SCP-005-FR seems to cause a surge in brain activity that ends in a level III coma (coma carus). All victims die approximately forty-eight (48) hours after inhaling a certain quantity of SCP-005-FR spores. Some victims of the Object wake up before the end of this period, are lucid and can describe the sensations associated with absorbing spores of the Object. For some unknown reason, these people are aware of their impending death.

The object was found in the forest of [DATA EXPUNGED], France, in 2006, twenty (20) metres from a hiking trail. Following the disappearance of several groups of hikers in the area, undercover Agents in the local police quickly suspected the presence of an SCP Object in the forest (the disappearances were similar, always in the same place and groups of 5 people could disappear at once). The Object was recovered by the Agents in question wearing gas masks (see Expedition 005-FR-1). Once found, the plant was immediately transferred to Site ██. Officially, the hikers' disappearance was due to an attack by a pack of wild dogs, a common occurrence in the area.

Addendum 005-FR-01: SCP-005-FR's psychic link: Inhaling large quantities of spores from the Object seems to establish a psychic link between it and one of its victims, enabling SCP-005-FR to ‘call’ the victim concerned through their mind. Anyone who has created a psychic link with the plant must be quarantined and monitored for 96 hours in order to break the link. When the Object ‘calls’ one of its victims, the victim loses all control of their body and mind after a brief moment of lucidity and will try to reach the Object by any means possible (see Incident 005-FR-1). The only way to stop a ‘called’ victim is to knock them unconscious or, in the event of an emergency, to shoot them. A victim may be ‘called’ by the Object during its quarantine, in which case Procedure 005-FR-01-1 should be applied.

Procedure 005-FR-01-1:
- Remove all sharp or blunt objects from the quarantine room.
- Close and lock the room's door.
- Do not listen to anything the victim may say to try to get out and do not open the door under any circumstances until the end of the quarantine period, even if the victim says they are calm or even if they appear to be calm.

Team Delta, consisting of Agent Vladof, Agent Wellan and Agent Rook, armed and in radio communication with Dr. Hideous
- Dr. Hideous: Team Delta, are you ready?
- Agent Wellan: No, we're coming into the zone. My God, it stinks!
- Agent Rook: Ugh, this stinks like hell!
- Agent Vladof: Guys, I've got the gas masks here.
- Dr. Hideous: Ok, go in once you're ready.
- Agent Wellan: We're ready, let's go.
The agents go deeper into the forest towards SCP-005-FR, walking about 56m before finding the first corpses.
- Agent Rook: Ugh… They're rotting… it's repulsive.
- Agent Wellan: …I've seen worse…
Agent Vladof remains silent as they continue to follow the trail of corpses.
- Agent Rook: Oh fuck!
- Dr. Hideous: What is it?
- Agent Rook: Dear God, there's a whole bunch of rotting corpses! They're laid out around this… What is this!!?
- Agent Vladof: Jesus, what is this… this plant?
- Dr. Hideous: Calm down and describe the plant to me.
- Agent Wellan: It's enormous -dear god I've never seen something like it- It must be a metre in diameter, maybe more, it's red with little white dots on its petals… And it has no stem.
- Dr. Hideous: *lowering his voice* but what on earth is a rafflesia doing here… Agent Wellan, are you sure?
- Agent Rook: Yeah, shit, he's right, Doctor. What the hell is that?
- Dr. Hideous: I believe it's a rafflesia… It only grows in Indonesia. I think this plant is our SCP, Team Delta.
- Agent Vladof: Gosh, I really don't feel good surrounded by all these corpses… Let's take it and go!
After being extracted and returned to the Foundation, the Object was transferred directly to Site ██ where it remains to this day.
