The thief was more than full of martial arts skills, and caught the blade with an empty hand over and over again. The sword then caused a new joint to grow wherever it cut; due to the antimemetic effect, he didn't notice the extra joints. The two fought for god knows how long, and eventually the thief's hand grew so much it became unwieldy and he was defeated.
