"Serious Competition"[1] is a musical theme composed by Aya Tanaka for Mario Party 5 , where it plays in the minigames Mazed & Confused and Mario Mechs, as well as all five duel minigames that take place in a laboratory-like room: Shock Absorbers, Countdown Pound, Whomp Maze, Pound Peril, and Piece Out.

Mario Party 5 marks the first appearance of "Serious Competition".
Mario Party DS[edit ]
In Mario Party DS , a medley arrangement of "Serious Competition" from Mario Party 5, "Slow and Steady" from Mario Party 6 , "Try Hard, Folks" from Mario Party 4 , "On Your Toes" from Mario Party 3 , and "A Rare Minigame" from Mario Party 7 plays in all six Puzzle minigames, including the returning Piece Out. It is titled "Think It Out" in the game's sound test.
