Kutlass, Donkey Kong Country: Rescue on Crocodile Isle

Kutlasses are enemies appearing in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest only. They are small Kremlings who wield two large cutlass swords roughly the size of their body. Kutlasses have either a yellow or a green body, the latter of which has quicker movements. They wear a black vest and a pirate hat which has the Kremling Krew insignia and red feathers on the side. Artwork shows that Kutlasses have three toes on each foot. They are said to have ordered their swords from an infomercial, which looked smaller on television.[1]

If a Kutlass notices Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong, it runs toward them and tries to slash them with its swords. If the Kutlass misses the Kongs, its swords get stuck in the ground, but it pulls its swords free and lifts them back up after a few seconds (green Kutlasses generally take less time to get their swords unstuck). Kutlasses always hold up their swords except when they attack. The Kongs take damage if they are slashed by Kutlass's swords or try to jump on Kutlass while its swords are up. A Kutlass is vulnerable to a jump attack if its swords are on the ground. A Kutlass can be defeated either from an object being thrown at it (such as a barrel or a kannonball), from a team up throw, or an attack from an Animal Friend, such as Squitter's web projectiles. In the cast roll, a Kutlass appears as part of the Kremling Kuthroats. Kutlasses have a variant named Klank, which ride Roller Coasters in the amusement park levels.

In the remake, Kutlasses and Klanks use a higher pitched edit of voice clips used by Koshas in Donkey Kong 64 .

Kutlass mail-ordered his razor-sharp swords from a TV offer. They turned out to be a little bigger than they looked on his small screen.[1]

Kutlass may be short in stature, but he's definitely not short on spirit! As soon as he catches sight of you, he'll charge forward and take a swing with his oversized meat cleavers. Don't try a jump attack on him while he's charging, or you'll get a serious razor burn![2]
