First quarter report (Jan-Mar)
Supporting the implementation of Wikimedia projects
Following the completion of the training stage in December 2023, calibra has focused on implementing projects developed by participants. This new stage has involved peer mentoring, workshops, project documentation, and communication.[1] [2] [3] [4]
This activity is related to WMB's strategy under the axis of "Articulating Brazilian Wikimedia agencies", and is meant as a process of building a network based on peer learning to ensure project sustainability.
The specific objective of the implementation of Wikimedia activities was to ensure that projects developed during the training are effectively pursued, documented, and communicated to the community, while also fostering continued collaborative work among participants. A project framework was developed to support project implementation. Participants have been engaged in a collaborative support structure, aiming at enabling them to consolidate the skills acquired during the program and respond to implementation challenges.[2] [3] [4] [1] [5]
Second quarter report (Apr-Jun)
Grantmaking support
Participants of Calibra are seeking resources to implement the projects they developed during their training, with Wiki Apoia being the primary funding opportunity to ensure these activities are organized.[6] This effort aligns with WMB's strategy, particularly the axis on coordinating Brazilian Wikimedia agencies axis, according to which Calibra operates. The goal is to organize the community around a process that meets their needs and empowers them to be key players in the solutions identified.
As part of this initiative, two meetings were held between Calibra participants and the community management team.[7] Qualitatively, there was increasing participant engagement in the implementation process of their training-developed projects and recognition of the critical role this funding modality plays in project realization. Quantitatively, the activity involved 11 participants, with one Wiki Apoia application submitted so far.
To develop enough capacity for implementation is the main goal of Calibra, and grantmaking remains a foundation for the continuity of activities that were incubated.
Third quarter report (Jul-Sep)
Discussion meetings on collaboration among peers in the Lusophone community
During this trimester, WMB has facilitated meetings with various members of the Portuguese-speaking community to explore collaboration among peers within the Wikimedia ecosystem.[8] This initiative aims to build a network for peer collaboration within the Lusophone Wikimedia community. It aligns with WMB's strategy, particularly under the objectives of "Coordinating Brazilian Wikimedia agencies" and "Deepening and directing governance networks within the Wikimedia Movement" by fostering an environment for integration and knowledge-sharing among individuals with diverse experiences and roles.
The primary goal was to identify the needs and opportunities for peer collaboration within this community. To achieve this, semi-structured conversations were conducted with individuals and groups, generating significant interest in the development of the network. Participants expressed confidence in the initiative as a viable solution for enhancing integration and collaboration. In total, 15 meetings were held, engaging 28 participants.[8]
Fourth quarter report (Oct-Dec)
Structuring a peer collaboration network in the Portuguese-speaking community
Calilu is a project developed by the Calibra initiative with the objective of peer collaboration network in the Portuguese-speaking community. One of the first activities of this project, described in the last report, was the meeting with different members of this community, which resulted in the Research on peer collaboration in the Portuguese-speaking community.[9] From that output, the project established remote meetings among Portuguese-speaking wikimedians so they could integrate with each other, exchange learnings and discuss best solutions for obstacles they encountered in their Wiki journey. The creation of this space relates directly to our strategic axis "Coordinate the Brazilian Wikimedia agencies", specifically the direction of Identifying needs of the Lusophone community and organize programs accordingly, seeking new ways to generate consistent engagement in Wikimedia projects, gathering volunteers in integrative processes towards leaderships development.
The main goal was to gather the Portuguese-speaking community in an integrative and collaborative space based on their interests and necessities, and test different formats and group dynamics. Those 5 meetings gathered in total 41 participants in a welcoming environment in which they exchanged and appreciated the different experiences of the individuals present and identified common necessities and approaches.[9] [10] [11] [12] [13] [14]
