Global rollback for Elizium23

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Status:  Not done
I am requesting global rollback because I have become increasingly active cross-wiki, taking action against vandalism and disruptive editing. My cross-wiki rollback activity includes, but is not limited to, es.wiki, it.wiki, el.wiki, wikidata, and commons. With over 50,000 edits at home on enwiki, I am comfortable with anti-vandalism tools such as Twinkle and RedWarn. I have a clean block log. Elizium23 (talk) 01:23, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose You have edited about on 40 wikis. Many of these cross-wiki edits have been edited in the soon (January-Februray 2021). As far as I have examined your edits, which are the only ones in different wikis, you trying to remove the some files from local wikis with the reason what they have been uploaded by sockpuppet/blocked users on Commons. The rules of each local wiki are different. While you were trying to remove these files, you undo an admin's edits on viwiki last year and you asked why you did undo my edit. This admin told you how to remove the files on this wiki. w:vi:Thảo_luận:Giuse_Nguyễn_Tích_Đức I would expect you to be more understanding about this. Since global rollback is fast tool, the last thing I want is to discuss with local administrators on different wikis for local rules that I don't know about. If you had a little more cross-wiki activity for spam, vandalism etc., maybe I could just ignore it. However, you don't have many edits that caught my attention, except that you usually try to remove files added by blocked users in different local wikis. --Uncitoyen talk 10:15, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose As said above by Uncitoyen. Additionally, I would like to see much more cross-wiki experience before asking for Global Rollback as this tool should be given out to experienced editors. Come back in a few months after getting to know more about the rules on other wikis and after you get some more cross-wiki contributions and experience. Nadzik (talk) 17:08, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose Sorry, but you don't have enough cross-wiki vandalism fighting experience so far. Submit a new request if this has changed. Regards --ZabeMath (talk) 00:05, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

I've been involved with anti-vandalism on dewiki for a long time and would now like to expand it. I care deeply about keeping Wikipedia in a good light and would like to contribute by working across projects to prevent vandalism. In particular, I am also interested in small projects that are not the focus of everyone. I would like to be active "globally". For this I would need the appropriate rights, so that I can move not only in the large platforms. In my activity I pay very close attention to which reverts can be made and I use the rollback only if I am sure beyond doubt that the change is vandalism. I would be very happy if you would come to the decision to grant me this right. Best regards from Germany. RacoonyRE (talk) 23:16, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

  • Comment Comment You have few global contributions. I suggest you join the SWMT and gain a few months of experience in global patrolling. You currently don't have the rollbacker flag on any projects and you don't have enough experience. The global rollbacker flag allows you to speed up your work, but imho you will need it when you are more practical, regards --Superpes15 (talk) 05:55, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Hello, I appreciate your willingness to help out in anti-vandalism efforts. But you currently do not have a lot of edits outside dewiki. Most of your edits are concentrated in dewiki, with 200+ edits outside dewiki. We prefer candidates to gain crosswiki experience before applying for global rollback. Like what Superpes15 said, please join the SWMT and gain some experience in crosswiki patrolling. Jianhui67 talk contribs 06:13, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
  • I echo the other candidates, not yet, but no issues to a reapplication in the future. Leaderboard (talk) 09:30, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
  • No cross-wiki activity. It would better you come back next time with more experience. --Uncitoyen talk 10:09, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Moral Support Support, come back in a few months with more cross-wiki experience. --Jan Myšák (talk) 10:20, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I have removed vandalism from many pages on wiki and this work is still going on, as long as vandalism is done from only one edit it can be easily undo / Revert but when one page But vandalism from more than one property cannot be undone, for that the page has to be edited by itself. Global sysop for CptViraj

Status:  Done
Not ending before 2 February 2021 04:32 UTC

Hi. I started my SWMT work in October 2019, became a global rollbacker in February 2020 and an abuse filter helper in March 2020. I'm a sysop on Commons and here on Meta. I've made some mistakes in my journey, like this and this but percentages of mistakes is significantly low, also I've always apologized and have tried to revert the mistake. I'm available on the Freenode IRC under the nick CptViraj and/or sometimes Firaag and have frequently used #wikimedia-gs connect and #wikimedia-stewards connect to report abuse. My SWMT activity had dropped moderately in last few months because of the new roles I got and some RL issues but I believe I now have enough time to actively work on anti-vandalism/spam, GS tools will help me to quickly block vandals, spammers and LTAs, I'll also help at GSR and SRM. Thanks! -- CptViraj (talk) 04:32, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Done, clear consensus. Though the block related to copyvio is not directly related to this, please exercise caution in performing copyright related maintenance work in small wikis--Shanmugamp7 (talk) 04:48, 2 February 2021 (UTC)

Requests for global IP block exemption

Global IP block exempt for BubblySnow

Status:  Not done

I would like to request Global IP block exempt rights because I have want to experience more in global wikipedia, I am mainly active in en.wiki and wikidata, In wikidata I saw several times that, the wikidata items which are not notable or delete by me or by other users, which were recreated by only IPs, again and again so if I will get this right I can help wikidata, from stop recreating Promotional, Spam or LTA items of wikidata with the help of Global IP block exempt rights, with this right i can block that IPs of one week or for 24 to 72 hours, and I also committee Wikimedia Foundation team that I will not do misuse of my any rights which will be granted to me now or in future, thanks, --BubblySnow  💬 12:09, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

BubblySnow, Not done, as this permission is not for what you think it is. IP block exemption is the right to be immune from an IP block that affects your current IP address. Most commonly it is used by people who live in the countries which impose internet censorship on Wikipedia and have to use open proxies such as free VPN services to circumvent the censorship (and thus technically violate NOP). What you want is to block IP addresses. There are two ways to block IP address. You can block it locally, in most Wikimedia projects that is something that an administrator can do, so I suggest you run for a Wikidata adminship, but it is up to you to satisfy all the formal and informal requirements it entails: d:WD:A. Global sysops can perform local blocks in a number of different wikis where they are not administrators, but which belong to the list of global sysop wikis. Active members of SWMT can eventually pass a vote on this page to become a global sysop. And then there are global blocks, those are being done by stewards and affect all wikis at once except for Meta-Wiki. --Base (talk) 12:25, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

Hvn0413, Not done, you already have global IP block exemption since 2013. That being said sometimes you might encounter local IP blocks, and the global flag does not make you immune to those. If that happens you will need to request local IP block exemption flags in respective wikis. --Base (talk) 16:22, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

I have two Different Ips at my home, for example mobile Hotspot, Wifi router and in my office I have broadband network known as Intranet it is one type of proxy which only allowes to browse sites which are of company or of any sites related to knowledge, wikipedia is also one of the knowledge base site so, When ever i am free i am doing login of my user id from that sites, so this all Ips are different, So thats why, I need a global IP block exempt to deal with This IP's, thanks, --MRGN (talk to me!) 06:52, 14 February 2021 (UTC)

@MakeRocketGoNow Hello there, thanks for making the request. It sounds you request this permission, because you need to edit Wikipedia from a proxy, and that you are mainly active at the English Wikipedia. If that is right, you'd need to request an IPBE via checkuser-en-wp@wikipedia.org instead, as the English Wikipedia has its own procedure for people who wish to edit Wikipedia via a proxy (they tend to block all proxies locally as well, and since global exemption helps with global blocks only, it won't affect the local blocks). Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:57, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
No, @Martin Urbanec: In past i was active in english after few years i redired from wikipedia due to my jobes I dont have time to visit wikipedia so i placed retirement tag in my wiki, but now i am retired from my job and so i can give 60% of this free time to wikipedi thats why i came back and so now and i would like to edit, Hindi, Frence, Indonesian, Spanish and german language too that why i am requesting for this right i have native knowledge of this languages, In past I have made severals of article in english wiki and now i have thinking to make same article in different languages too. If if i will get this rights then it will be very helpfull for me to edit other languages wiki. Want to run scrips from my Hetzner server but it is currently on IP block. If hole 5.9.0.0/16 or just 5.9.97.203 becomes removed from the block list I would not need this right for me and my bot. --GPSLeo (talk) 21:45, 19 February 2021 (UTC)

@GPSLeo Granted for your bot account. Why is it necessary for your personal account to edit from Hetzner infrastructure?
Btw, I recommend looking into Toolforge, an infrastructure provided by the Foundation which can be used for running bots from the cloud. It is not blocked at any Wikimedia wiki, and it allows you to use database replicas as well if you wish. If you have any questions about Toolforge, feel free to let me know.
Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:43, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
I have a tool and bot running on toolforge. I primarily want this for file uploading with my main account. I have the files on the server for my personal website and just do not want to upload them twice with my slow internet connection. --GPSLeo (talk) 18:14, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
@GPSLeo I understand, that makes sense. Global exemption granted for your personal account as well.
Note you can also get your domain added to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Upload_tools/wgCopyUploadsDomains, and then use upload_by_url, making the Wikimedia servers to directly download the file from your site. But uploading from your server is fine too, this is just to inform about other possibilities if you're not aware of them already.

@Super Wang Any updates on the local IPBE situation. I didn't see any zhwp IPBE granted. As the requestor is just saying Wikipedia, we cannot assume it is only zh, they might be meaning en (which they also have some edits). Overall I don't see a GIPBE unreasonable per normal GFW situations. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
@Camouflaged Mirage: User has not reqested for local IPBE yet, maybe they don't know how to. I don't think it's unreasonable to grant them GIPBE either. As GIPBE doesn't make one immune of local IP block, (削除) I'm suggesting them applying for a local IPBE flag additionally. (削除ここまで) --Super Wang hates PC You hate, too? 11:43, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
Given that this user edited today, they don't seem to be affected by local IP blocks, I won't suggest local IPBE. --Super Wang hates PC You hate, too? 11:45, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
@Super Wang I will guess the local IPBE can be applied if there is a local block issue as they seems to suggest it's just a global block they need to exempt from. Will appreciate your help to guide the user on local situation, or I can leave them a message if needed but since you are on it, let me defer to you first. Thanks. @Camouflaged Mirage: I noted that this user uses Traditional Chinese, which indicates they are from HK, Macau or Taiwan (but they didn't disclose). I guess they don't need to bypass GFW, just need to evade global IP block, so GIPBE is enough. @Leaderboard For Global Renamers, the crosswiki experience I am looking for is slightly different from Global Rollbackers / Sysops. If the candidate is wanting the access for their homewiki, I am okay with 0 experience elsewhere. For candidate who wish to work on global queues or didn't indicate, I will want to look for some crosswiki experience, i.e. some experience with how global things works. They have tons of edits on enwp, over 200 plus on meta is enough for them to know somewhat how other wikis work in term of username policies and that is the "cross"-wiki experience I am looking for. 2FA Tester for JonathanCross

Status:  Done

2FA should be setup on any account that matters. My Wikipedia account matters. (I'm confused why this request is even necessary) Thanks, --JonathanCross (talk) 14:00, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

@JonathanCross Hello, this request is necessary, because it is really easy to lock yourself out of your account with no way to recover, should you lose both your 2FA device and scratchcodes. If you are okay with this risk, and you have read the documentation, we will happily enable 2FA for you. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:42, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec Yes please. – JonathanCross (talk) 21:00, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@JonathanCross Done 2FA should be available for you now. Please make sure to store the scratch codes in a safe place. Best, Martin Urbanec (talk) 21:33, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec Thanks. I just enrolled using FIDO U2F, but at no time was I presented with recovery "scratch codes". This is concerning... did the process change? – JonathanCross (talk) 22:59, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
@Martin Urbanec So, as far as I can see, webauthn (FIDO U2F) setup does not present scratch codes. I just went through both TOTP and Webauthn setups again to confirm. And there is no way to enable both TOTP and Webauthn simultaniously, which means webauthn (by far the most secure option) provides no backup / reset option. This is frustrating - is it intentional? – JonathanCross (talk) 13:11, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
@JonathanCross Sadly, it is currently not possible to have scratch codes as a backup for webauthn. You can, however, enroll multiple webauthn keys and keep one of them as a backup. There is a task in our bug tracking system to fix this, however, right now, no one is working on that.

2FA should be standard for all accounts, not just high-value. I've read the documentation, please enable 2FA for my account. Thanks, --Calvin1719

Calvin1719, Done, please make sure not to lose your scratch codes. The latter is the reason why it is currently not default for everyone — people manage to lock themselves out of their account, and at the moment the procedure to restore their access requires manual identity verification by WMF staff (when the verification is even possible) — at the moment this system does not scale well. --Base (talk) 14:33, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

2FA Tester for MikutoH

I'm gently requesting 2FA use authorization because I'm concerned about being hijacked. I'm an active user at [pt.wikipedia.org pt.wiki] and got, only this week, about five notifications telling me that "Ocorreram 15 tentativas falhadas de entrar na sua conta desde a última vez que iniciou uma sessão. Se estas tentativas não foram feitas por si, certifique-se de que a sua conta tem uma palavra-passe segura", i.e. 15 failed attempts of hijacking my user. This happened all this week. ☹️ --MikutoH (talk) 23:35, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

PS.: I've read the recommendations. MikutoH (talk) 23:37, 16 February 2021 (UTC) PS2.: Still being notified about failed login attempts. Today it was "25 failed attempts". pic MikutoH (talk) 14:13, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

So, basically the same rationale as Meta:RFA and Meta:Babel, but evidently the community does not think that limited adminship is the right role for me, and no consensus could be obtained for the other two. This leaves AFH as the only option. Please do not tell that I should be applying for Meta limited adminship (as I already did it), because in that case I'll be left with neither. Thanks in advance. --Leaderboard (talk) 08:14, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

@Leaderboard One more question, hope you don't mind, since this is sort of sensitive, although WMF did not ask for 2FA can I have your assurance that your account will be kept secure. Thanks much. Camouflaged Mirage (talk) 11:49, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

global-interface-editor renewal and abusefilter-maintainer for Billinghurst

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Status:  Done

I wish to continue to have access to global-interface-editor rights. Continuing the general work of past years. No rights have been rescinded xwiki that I hold, I think that I did add abusefilter-maintainer in past 12 months, though maybe that was prior period. -- — billinghurst sDrewth 23:12, 13 February 2021 (UTC)

Adding abusefilter-maintainer to renewal request though it isn't due to April. May as well synch these rights to make things easier for all parties.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:15, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: Do you edit abuse filters in projects in which you have no other rights? In your first request you wrote that you want to test filters. This also works with the Group "Abuse filter helpers". I think that would be better as that doesn't need to be renewed and therefore creates less bureaucracy. --WikiBayer 👤💬 08:57, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
I both test and build edit filters for other wikis that are not are not covered by global sysops. I have previously assisted in global cleanups after AF extensions changes, though not been necessary this year.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:55, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
  • (after edit conflict) Question Question: Hello Billinghurst, can you explain this code?

Nieuwsgierige Gebruiker (CA) 09:08, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
You are going to ask this type of question every year for a renewal. We don't typically write filters for the template namespace, especially not globally, and not something that I would typically do at a local wiki.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:15, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
And the code is invalid because "page_namespage" is typoed. Legoktm (talk) 09:10, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Renew global-interface-editor for Sophivorus

Status:  Done

Hi! I'd like to request a renewal of my global-interface-editor permission. I've had the permission for about three years mainly because I'm the main developer and maintainer of the ProveIt gadget (used in over 40 wikis). I'm also the main developer and maintainer of the Transcluder and Excerpt modules (used in over 20 wikis) that occasionally require me to edit protected pages, as well as some smaller tools on Wikiversity and the Spanish Wikipedia. I haven't been too active lately but I was very active earlier last year and I expect a similar period of activity sometime this year. Thanks for your consideration!
