Meta:Requests for adminship

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Requests for adminship on Meta
This page hosts requests for administrator access on the Meta-Wiki; for requesting administrator access on any other wiki, please find the appropriate venue on the index of request and proposal pages . Bureaucrat, checkuser, oversight and bot requests are also made here. Before making a request here, please see the administrator policy.

Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.

Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.

All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.

See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.

Information

Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.

Regular adminship

  1. Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
  2. Use the box below, insert your username:

  3. Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example {{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the top. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request.
  4. Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.

Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, they are less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.

Bureaucratship

Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:

  • Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
  • User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after they nominate themselves here.

If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see the Meta bureaucrat page.

Other access

For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.

  • Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.

  • CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.

  • Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.

For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:

Requests for global renamer permissions are handled at global permission requests to stewards page.

WMF Office Staff and Contractors

  • If you are an WMF Official or Contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties the process is different. Please have a look at the WMF staff userrights policy on Office wiki [restricted access] and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety; or send an email to ca@wikimedia.org.(source)

Requests for regular adminship

Not ending before 11 March 2025 22:00 (UTC)

Dear community,

I am requesting full administrator rights. While my primary wiki is slwiki and I recently became a global sysop, I would also like to highlight my work on the abuse filter. To effectively manage global filters—especially as they produce an increasing number of false positives on slwiki and may require future refinements—Meta adminship would greatly help.

Over my five years of wiki editing, I have actively dealt with various types of abuse, including regular vandalism, long-term vandalism, and cross-wiki spam. I would like to extend this work to Meta, where the number of spammers is also rising. Additionally, Meta adminship would allow me to edit the spam blacklist.

Given my experience and the reasons outlined above, I believe I am well-suited to serve the community in this capacity.--A09 |(pogovor) 22:00, 4 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Hi all,

I've been actively fighting vandalism here on Meta and would like to help out with some sysop tasks. Most weekdays, I spend time watching the recent changes where I revert vandalism and tag inappropriate pages for speedy deletion. I believe I can help at WM:RFH and CAT:DEL, as well as handling deletions/blocks when I find things while patrolling. I'm and active global sysop, I've familiarized myself with the relevant Meta policies, and I look forward to hearing the community's input. Thanks!

Requests for translation adminship

Hi, everyone! I hope you are doing well.

I am writing to request adminship for translation. I have been a cross-wiki translator for many years, particularly serving as a translator between Russian-Kazakh Wikipedia and English-Kazakh Wikipedia. Please check my page on Kazakh Wikipedia, where you can find over 800 articles that I have translated from other Wikipedias into Kazakh Wikipedia. In total, I have contributed more than 2,500 articles and made over 4,500 edits on Kazakh Wikipedia.

Now, I would like to expand my scope of work and contribute to translations on Meta. You can see an example of my translation into Kazakh on Meta here. I am fluent in Kazakh, English, Russian, Uzbek, Azerbaijani, and Turkish. Therefore, I would also like to translate content in these languages on Meta, as there is a significant lack of translations available.

Thank you for your time! --Erboldilyara (talk) 23:01, 6 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

@Erboldilyara: You don’t need to be a translation administrator for translation any pages. Read Meta:Translation administrators for information about translation adminship and what rights you obtain by it. Svārtava (t ɕ) 03:51, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

ZI Jony (removal)

Not ending before 04:24, 14 March 2025 (UTC)

I'd like to request the community to review ZI Jony's use of the translation admin user right as his use of the tool doesn't comply with the Meta:Internationalization guidelines despite reminders. Ref. Special:Diff/28217549, Special:Diff/28217586, Special:Diff/26236117, Special:Diff/28333949 are examples. And as far as I can see, it's a repeat of the diffs provided at their failed request for TA. As such, I'd like to propose for the removal of User:ZI Jony's translation admin user rights and should the right be removed, they can request for it again via the normal process. --Min☠︎rax «¦talk¦» 04:26, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

  • Remove Remove per nom. I also cannot help but notice that there wasn't a whole lot of support at Meta:Requests for translation adminship/ZI Jony 2 (by number of votes) either. //shb (tc) 04:30, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
  • Comment Comment: I acknowledge the concerns raised regarding my use of translation admin tools and appreciate the feedback. My intention has always been to support multilingual accessibility on Meta, and I regret any mistakes I have made.
I have always been open to learning and improving. When Minorax pointed out issues, I acknowledged them and even requested one-on-one mentorship to better align with Meta’s internationalization guidelines. Unfortunately, this mentorship has not been provided, and I am still looking for guidance to refine my approach.
Despite these concerns, I have actively contributed to marking pages for translation, supporting important Wikimedia initiatives. Instead of outright removal, I would greatly appreciate an opportunity to improve with proper mentorship. If needed, I am willing to take a temporary step back from translation admin activities (including removal) while receiving guidance.
I remain committed to following best practices and ensuring that my future translation work fully aligns with community expectations. I sincerely ask the community to consider my willingness to learn and improve before making a final decision. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 11:43, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
@ZI Jony Minorax has however been telling you about this multiple times. Have you considered asking before preparing the page for translation, or prepare the page for translation and then ask for help at something like Meta:RfH or Discord? Basically, I'm trying to understand why you're running into issues multiple times. Leaderboard (talk) 12:00, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
Leaderboard, thank you for your feedback. I understand that Minorax has pointed out these issues multiple times, and I genuinely regret any mistakes I have made. My goal has always been to contribute positively, and I now recognize that I should have been more proactive in seeking guidance before proceeding with translation marking.
Moving forward, I will follow your suggestion by asking for help—either on RfH or Discord—before marking complex pages for translation. I am still looking for one-on-one mentorship from Minorax or any experienced translation admin to refine my understanding and avoid repeated mistakes.
I truly appreciate the community’s patience and guidance, and I am committed to improving my approach to translation admin work. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 18:49, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
OK, I'll give you a chance. Keep Keep Leaderboard (talk) 18:59, 7 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
I appreciate that you're willing to learn but repeating the same mistakes despite reminders shows otherwise. --Min☠︎rax «¦talk¦» 15:50, 8 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
I understand your points! However, still I am asking help from you. We can start an academy subpage under your/my user page for this. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 12:24, 9 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]

Requests for CentralNotice adminship

Not ending before 10 March 2025 13:22 (UTC)

Hi, I'm Yahya, an admin of several projects and a steward. The Bangla Wikimedia community organizes 6-7 events annually that require CN banners. Starting this year, these events will be managed by a single team (bringing them under one umbrella for better coordination), and I would like to help maintain these banners. Therefore, I am requesting CentralNotice adminship.

Additionally, I will support other requests as needed. I have familiarized myself with the CN admin interface, the usage guidelines, and the help page, and I will seek feedback or double-check with other CN admins if I have any questions or doubts.

Thank you! ~ Yahya (talkcontribs) 13:22, 3 March 2025 (UTC) [reply ]
