Change the name and refocus this group?

Posted by gusaus on January 29, 2020 at 1:25am

With the recent launch of https://www.drupal.org/project/funding, the need for such a group is much greater than when it launched. Would it make sense to rename and refocus into more of a working group? How about doing the following?

1) Change the name of this group to SustainDrupal
2) Review, update and incorporate elements of this Snowball charter into SustainDrupal

Grants for local govt. agencies to install a Drupal website?

Posted by charles belov on August 10, 2010 at 5:33pm

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) is a public transportation agency in northern California. As with most transit agencies in the US, we are having funding challenges.

We would like to switch from plain old HTML to Drupal. Are there any grants that would fund design, installation and creation of a Drupal website for a local government agency, including moving old content to the new site?

Collective funding, design and development of Drupal projects

    Posted by abbood-gdo on September 4, 2008 at 10:57pm

I would like to raise a discussion about the prospect of the Drupal community using a system that allows collective design, funding and development of any Drupal project.

Think about it this way: if the Knight Drupal Initative is the Google summer of code for Drupal, what I'm proposing is a Google year of code for Drupal, only there is no single entity such as Google or DKI funding projects, the funds come from community. My partner and I have already implemented a solution that makes that possible (www.fossfactory.org). I would like to hear from you about how suitable this model is for the Drupal community at large.

Setting up a dual-purpose dedicated fund?

Posted by dgorton on March 10, 2008 at 2:25am

First and foremost, I really appreciate the work that the D.A. does on behalf of the community. Thank you for everything.

After Drupalcon (again - thanks!), I got thinking about the potential challenges that new money may bring to our community. One way to handle the moment, however, may be to setup a dual-purpose fund to be administered by the DA on behalf of the community.

One part of that fund could be for recognizing already-made contributions to the community. Merit would be rewarded just a bit more this way, and thereby even further incented into the future.

    Funding ideas and proposals

Posted by gusaus on January 9, 2008 at 1:42am

Moving this 'dojo issue' out for hopefully a bit more 'meta' discussion.

Google Highly Open Participation Contest (GHOP) (and Summer of Code) have proven how successful tasks and projects can be for both learning and as a way to contribute back to Drupal. We seem to be hung up on the 'if/how/who' issues when it comes to real money.

Once again, GHOP and the Drupal association could serve as a template.

My New Site is Slow :-(

    Posted by arindamghatak794 on June 8, 2007 at 12:13am

    Hey guys,

This is a new site (myresearchfunds) I created to help university professors connect with the industry and get funding. However, the site seems to be a little slow. One reason could be the server perhaps (its on a shared host by networksolutions.com) or perhaps there are too many modules being employed. Are there any other reasons a site could be slow (there isn't too much traffic as of now).

If you guys can have a look and let me know how you find it, that'll be great. Any criticism is wholeheartedly welcome :-)

    Thanks.

Marketplace for Module Development and Improvement– pooling resources of developers

Posted by mlncn on May 15, 2007 at 12:23pm

I'm glad Darren Oh has got a solid proposal for this group. I would suggest that the most needed aspect of a Drupal marketplace would be a way for individual Drupal users and Drupal shops – especially smaller shops – to pool resources to fund specific module development.

User dahacouk called for more structure and a funding model to make the quality of contributed modules the best they can be.

To quote from my endorsement and proposal:

    Starting a Group Fundraising Campaign

Posted by Walt Esquivel on December 13, 2006 at 3:06pm

Before initiating a fundraising campaign, there are five important questions you’ll need to answer as mentioned in How to Use the Internet for Group Fundraising.

What issue does your campaign target?
Where is the money going to go?
Who can you ask for financial support?
When do you need to meet the fundraising goal?
How are you going to convince people to support the campaign?

There is additional helpful info at On Group Fundraising
