Libraries

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

This group is for libraries - public, academic, school, law, what-have-you. It is not about code libraries.
Ask questions and/or tell us what your library or organization is up to.

Please add your library to our Drupal libraries roster

Drupal in Libraries Presentation Info Request

Posted by ellyssa on March 21, 2008 at 6:06pm

Hi, I'm preparing to give a talk on Drupal in Libraries at the Computers in Libraries conference in a couple weeks. I'd really like to speak with libraries who are using the technology. Please contact me if you have a few minutes to spare (really only 10 minutes, tops!) to talk to me about your websites either on the phone or in email at ellyssakroski at yahoo.com. Thanks.

BTW, here's my drupal site I created for the LIS class I taught last fall: http://www.infosherpas.com/fall2007/

BoF on Drupal4Lib at ALA in Anaheim?

Posted by leoklein on March 11, 2008 at 9:25pm

This may be early but since I just registered for ALA in Anaheim (actually last Friday to take advantage of the deep discount) I thought I'd see what people thought about organizing something related to Drupal for Libraries.

Maybe a BoF (Birds of a Feather) session or something similarly casual (and fun).

It'd be great to get together.

Submit your ideas today!

Drupal in Education BoF

Posted by bonobo on January 21, 2008 at 9:58pm

I just submitted a proposal for a Drupal in Education Birds of a Feather session.

If you are attending the DrupalCon, come on over and read through the proposals, rate the existing proposals, and/or write one of your own.

If you would like to attend the BoF, I have started a list of possible topics to cover in the session description. As I say in the description, given Drupal's flexibility and the differing needs of people working within education, there will be plenty to talk about.

Drupal Partners with U of M Libraries - Formal Lab Usability Testing of D6

Posted by libsys-gdo on January 2, 2008 at 6:44pm

FYI: http://drupal.org/node/204667

We're not specifically testing a "library installation," but this represents a first step towards establishing a long-term and mutually beneficial relationship with the Drupal community. With a number of core developers, including Dries, in town, we'll also have a chance to run a few ideas by them regarding a couple of the Drupal-powered scholarly communities that we have begun to construct.

¡Viva la Revolucion!

A Modest Suggestion : LibrarySandbox.org

Posted by leoklein on December 13, 2007 at 3:28pm

I got an interesting request a little while ago. A librarian wanted to know if she could get administrative access to a website I was running so she could see how Drupal works.

Naturally I had to say no, but it got me thinking that a "sandbox" version of Drupal -- based on a library website -- might be useful to people who wanted an idea of the "look and feel" of the thing.

Drupal has a module called "Demo" that makes sandboxes possible. So now I'm thinking this might form the basis of an interesting collaborative project.

Announcing DRUPAL4LIB, a ListServ for Librarians Interested in Drupal

Posted by leoklein on December 5, 2007 at 7:19pm

I just sent out the following announcement to various library-related email lists:

Hi All,

I'm pleased to announce a new ListServ for librarians called 'DRUPAL4LIB'.

As the name implies, 'DRUPAL4LIB' is for those interested in Drupal, a popular open-source CMS, as it relates to libraries and librarians.

The idea is to have a forum to exchange ideas and advice, share experiences, and maybe even collaborate on a couple of projects that highlight the use of Drupal in a library context.

The ever helpful Cary Gordon has kindly agreed to serve as "moderator" along with your's truly.

SUBSCRIBE

Send the command 'SUBSCRIBE DRUPAL4LIB First_name Last_name' in the body of an email to LISTSERV@LISTSERV.UIC.EDU.

Alternatively you can subscribe by selecting 'Join or Leave the DRUPAL4LIB List' from the DRUPAL4LIB Archives Page:
http://listserv.uic.edu/archives/drupal4lib.html

Everyone is welcome, whether beginner or pro!

Leo Klein on Drupal (Chicago)

Posted by leoklein on October 1, 2007 at 8:48pm
Start:
2008年02月29日 13:30 - 16:30 America/Chicago

Okay, this one is so far off it's almost crazy to talk about, but since they just posted it, I thought I might as well put out the word -- at least for people in the Chicagoland area interested in Drupal.

Drupal of course is a popular open-source content management system. I'll be giving an introduction to it at the offices of the Metropolitan Library System in Chicago on Friday, 2/29, 1:30-4:30. (Yes, leap year day!)

DrupalEd 5.2-1

Posted by bonobo on August 14, 2007 at 5:19pm

Get release 5.2-1 here.

From the upgrade notes included in the release:

This upgrade is in response to the CCK security announcement.

While this security upgrade only affects a specific use of CCK that is not present in the DrupalEd configuration, anyone running DrupalEd is strongly advised to upgrade. A healthy dose of paranoia regarding security concerns can save you hours of time/emotional distress.
