Looking for feedback for people who have worked on projects in both LTR and RTL

Posted by WHMII on August 20, 2016 at 7:40pm

Hi there!

I am part of the maintainer team for Bourbon and Neat. Neat grid has an upcoming 2.0.0 release that is currently in beta. While it wont be in the initial release, I am looking to add some basic ltr/rtl support. However, I have not personally worked on any rtl projects. It would be awesome to get some feedback on what a feature like this might look like and peoples past experiences.

Two Drupal 8 issues to help fix broken RTL support

Posted by gábor hojtsy on April 25, 2013 at 2:51pm

We need help testing these issues and providing patches/feedback to improve Drupal 8 RTL support. There are some regressions that should be fixed sooner than later! All help is welcome!

Here is a complete patch for the installer to be RTL right after the profile selection step: http://drupal.org/node/1974040 - it works, needs testing/reviews.

The default core theme Bartik is broken currently in an RTL setting, needs help to figure this out and fix as well as test: http://drupal.org/node/1979392

Thanks to anyone who helps!

As part of the multilingual initiative we opened a meta-issue to implement translations of non-textual data in Drupal. One of the ideas is to add the Arabic-Indic numeral system. http://drupal.org/node/1345758
What are the possible requirements, issues and usecases for arabic-indic numbers in Drupal?

Creating rtl themes

Posted by kramazeek on December 25, 2010 at 4:27am

Hello everyone,
I am currently working on a base theme and am looking into adding rtl support. Has anyone else had major issues with ie6,ie7, and ie8 while using something like:

body { direction: rtl; }

Applying the direction attribute to the html or body tag seems to cause a lot of issues in earlier versions of ie. I ended up using doing this:

/* apply rtl to the html tag so the scrollbar is on the correct side /
html {
direction: rtl;
}
/
set the language direction back to left to right to avoid breaking the layout in ie. */
body {
direction: ltr;
}

Posted by alaa on November 21, 2010 at 10:20am

http://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/ar

http://drupal.org/node/950452

Testing Drupal Localization Server for Arabic Translation

Posted by rami.sedhom on May 7, 2010 at 12:34pm

I can see a lot of arguments about moving the Arabic translation to l.d.o or keeping it as a drupal project in favor of using CVS. I have gone through different posts, issues and comments.

I don't go for further arguments, I just would share simple proposal.

Goals:
1. Better Arabic in Drupal
2. More contributors
3. Trying the new tools provided through l.d.o
4. Find the problem it may be faced after moving to l.d.o, reporting these issue may help evolve Localization Server for our benefit

Could we borrow your site with RTL content for theme development?

Posted by stephthegeek on April 15, 2010 at 6:33pm

Hi all! I'm one of the developers of the base theme Fusion. We've built in RTL support to the theme but want to test it much more thoroughly before the final 1.0 release. But it's quite challenging to build and set up full, realistic RTL content when it's not our language :)

Thanx drupal
This is the first guide for drupal in Arabic, we work at it for more than 3 month as a group of young people.
Before working on this project we take a look at drupal as a wonderful cms, then we decide to learn more about it. We found after a weeks of research that there is a few of Arabic drupal users, we think that the languages was the wall prevent them to learn drupal. So we start building this guide.
This guide cover the basics things in drupal, it consists of eight chapters
