Results in Nepal

Active in Nepal since 1971, UNFPA has supported health-sector initiatives, enhanced the national response to gender-based violence, and implemented the population and housing census. Priorities include programmes for planning and managing population and for improving reproductive health, as well as strategies in districts that have made slow progress in achieving development goals.

Result achieved in 2024

1

A roadmap to eliminate obstetric fistula by 2030 and a costed implementation plan for family planning (2024–2030) were developed

2

The budget share for sexual and reproductive health in Lumbini province increased by 1.5 per cent to 12.7 per cent in 2024; in addition, 19 local governments allocated nearly 52 per cent of their gender-responsive budgeting resources, and 18 local governments developed gender equality policies

3

Five disaster preparedness and response plans and two monsoon preparedness plans were developed at national and sub-national levels, all incorporating gender-based violence considerations

4

142 health professionals from two provinces received training on the Minimum Initial Service Package for sexual and reproductive health in crisis situations, while essential supplies were prepositioned at five strategic locations

5

Technical support was provided for developing the National Statistics Regulation and revising the National Population Policy through consultations with 80 stakeholders

6

A co-financing agreement for 2024–2025 was secured, with the Government of Nepal committing to cover 2 to 3 per cent of the cost for family planning commodities procured through the UNFPA Supplies Partnership

Technical notes and sources
  • The results featured here are only a selection of key results in line with strategic plan 2014-17 indicators. The selection does not reflect the full picture of all results achieved during the strategic plan cycle by UNFPA programme countries.
  • The source of data for most country level indicators is the UNFPA country annual reports for 2014-2017, unless stated otherwise
  • Results featured are cumulative - i.e., achieved between the 2014 and 2017 timeframe, and reflect the net situation, true as of the year selected
  • Majority of the results are captured from 127 UNFPA programme countries
  • Indicators that are marked ‘not achieved’ could imply any of the following conditions:
    • The country may have achieved the result without the support of UNFPA
    • The country has not targeted the given indicator during the 2014-2017 period
    • UNFPA is supporting this area of work, but the result has not yet been achieved
