Successful sustainable development requires dynamic and inclusive strategic partnerships that involve a variety of stakeholders.

UNFPA cannot achieve its mission alone. We can do it only if we work with a diverse range of partners across sectors and around the world to accelerate investment, to leverage skills and experience, and to harness insights. Support from our partners allows us to invest in long-term projects around the world and in emergency humanitarian settings. Each of our collaborations with partners is uniquely positioned to help us achieve our transformative results in an innovative and inclusive manner.

Spanning the public and private sectors, UNFPA works with national governments, international financial institutions, businesses, foundations, academia, civil-society and policy organizations and individuals to develop ideas that make the best use of their time, skills, resources and donations.

How we partner

How we partner

Our partnerships traditionally fall into four models:

  • Resource mobilization

Resource mobilization - to cultivate a robust and differentiated portfolio of donors supporting UNFPA programmes and contributing to organizational sustainability, from predictable and flexible financial support to the donation of goods and services.

  • Innovation

Innovation - to harness the expertise and talent of our partner organizations, including academic institutions, to contribute to innovative solutions.

  • Reach

Reach - to galvanize broad endorsement and visibility of UNFPA as the leading United Nations agency working to preserve and improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all people.

  • Alliances

Alliances - to build political and financial support for the International Conference on Population and Development Programme of Action and the Sustainable Development Goals by partnering with civil-society organizations and parliamentarians.

Global challenges are interdependent, which is why we need a wide range of partners to find solutions. Our focus on working with multi-stakeholder partners to diversify our supporters and resources has been even more critical since the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused unprecedented health, security and socioeconomic disruption. Rising climate disasters and overlapping humanitarian crises are further taking a massive toll on women and girls. Our partnerships not only support planned programming, but help us respond to escalating humanitarian needs around the world.

The support of our private and public partners is vital in helping to rebuild resilient health systems and communities, safeguarding sexual and reproductive health needs, and reaching those furthest behind with life-saving information and services.
