Results in Gabon

UNFPA and its partners apply a range of programming approaches to address gender-based violence and harmful practices, such as child marriage, and other issues in Gabon. Partnership is essential to progress, and UNFPA works with stakeholders from every sphere of society, at the local, national, regional and global levels. The ultimate goal is to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every birth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.

Result achieved in 2024

Three strategic tools were developed with the Ministry of Health: a national emergency obstetric and newborn care (EmONC) facility deployment plan, an EmONC training guide and a gender-based violence survivor care pathway

A maternal mortality surveillance system was implemented, with 51 public health facilities now reporting maternal deaths on a weekly basis

Over 20,000 young people aged 14–24 accessed comprehensive sexuality education through the "QG Jeune" platform and mobile clinic initiatives

4

A formalized care pathway for gender-based violence survivors was developed, establishing clear protocols and referral mechanisms within the health system

5

Demographic projections for Gabon for 2025–2050 were completed, providing critical evidence on population dynamics to inform long-term development planning

6

A mobile clinic unit was implemented in partnership with NGO 3S, reaching over 12,600 young people with sexual and reproductive health information and services
