Results in Comoros

The islands of Comoros have made progress in improving health care services and in decreasing maternal mortality. UNFPA initiatives help to extend services and to provide emergency obstetric care and family planning. UNFPA also aims to maintain the low prevalence of HIV/AIDS and to manage sexually transmitted infections. Other assistance focuses on increasing the availability and use of timely and reliable demographic data, as well as on integrating population variables into gender policies and development programmes.

Result achieved in 2024

1

The national contingency plan enhanced with provisions for reproductive health and gender-based violence during emergencies, strengthening crisis response capabilities

2

16 functional gender-based violence committees were established at the community level, creating a foundation for nationwide coverage of alert systems

3

A digital platform for a national database was established to monitor progress on ICPD implementation with regular updates to track commitments

4

The proportion of facilities providing at least five contraceptive methods reached 60 per cent, with all district centres and hospitals offering comprehensive method choice

5

Population projections have been developed and utilized for planning purposes, providing critical demographic data to inform programme and policy decisions

6

Contraceptive choice was expanded through the introduction of the subcutaneous injectable contraceptive into the service delivery system, with integration into the health management and logistics management information systems

Technical notes and sources
  • The results featured here are only a selection of key results in line with strategic plan 2014-17 indicators. The selection does not reflect the full picture of all results achieved during the strategic plan cycle by UNFPA programme countries.
  • The source of data for most country level indicators is the UNFPA country annual reports for 2014-2017, unless stated otherwise
  • Results featured are cumulative - i.e., achieved between the 2014 and 2017 timeframe, and reflect the net situation, true as of the year selected
  • Majority of the results are captured from 127 UNFPA programme countries
  • Indicators that are marked ‘not achieved’ could imply any of the following conditions:
    • The country may have achieved the result without the support of UNFPA
    • The country has not targeted the given indicator during the 2014-2017 period
    • UNFPA is supporting this area of work, but the result has not yet been achieved
