Vocational Education, Employment, and Economic Development in the Philippines (2019_2_40_009)
Outline
Since 2016, the Philippine government has aimed to grow the Philippines into a higher-middle-income country and to eradicate poverty by 2040. However, the country must face diminishing disparities between the capital region and other areas with regard to employment opportunities and raising incomes, along with developing human capital for further contributing to the inclusive/sustainable growth. In this research project, we will analyze the changes in the regional labor markets/opportunities and in relation to economic development since the 2000s based on data on regional labor market/industrial structures and on technical and vocational education and training (TVET), regarding the agriculture and fisheries industries. We attempt to understand the bottlenecks of improving employment opportunities and policy implications especially for regional areas, where forms of higher education are less accessible compared with the capital region (metro Manila).
