From Data to Decisions: Turning Disaster Risk into Resilience

Brigitte Balthasar is an international risk manager with over 15 years of experience in disaster and climate risk financing. She leads initiatives at ADB to strengthen financial resilience in developing member countries through innovative financing mechanisms. With a background spanning financial services, disaster risk analytics, and sustainability, she is recognized for advancing solutions to address the complex challenges of climate change and disaster risk.
Before joining ADB, Brigitte advised public and private organizations on climate risk insurance and risk transfer solutions. She previously led risk and accumulation unit at Helvetia Specialty Lines in Switzerland and began her career at Willis Re, London, managing disaster risk analytics for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. As part of the Willis Research Network, seconded to UNDRR, she also contributed to the Global Assessment Report (2011).
Brigitte holds a postgraduate degree in Mathematics, Geography, and Instructional Design from the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg and Universidad de Zaragoza. She continues to drive innovation in risk management, shaping strategies for a more resilient and sustainable global economy.
