A social media that pays you : tsu.co

Talk about coincidence just a few days after I posted "Why an alternative to facebook is needed" mentioning ello.ch as the hot new facebook alternative... tsu.co was launched.

As ello.co motto was about counteracting facebook tendency to sell his users information to marketers - tsu.co goes for the revenue aspect.
Basically tsu.co rises the question to facebook users who are "content creators" (such as artists and celebrities) and ask them this simple question :
"How much money do you directly make by having x followers on your facebook page?"
Because the answer is most certainly : none

You can be a cosplayer like Jessica Nigri and have made nearly 3 Millions Followers and receive nothing from facebook advertising money.

Which is to be fair, a bit like working in an office where all your visitors are buying stuffs from your landlord while they are in the building and you don't make any money (you just don't pay rent).
Or like a radio station that would use many songs and never give any money back to the song artists...

tsu.co is here to mend a fundamental issue on the internet related to content creator and their lack of revenue, they want to distribute some money back to them : the "content creator" - because let's face it, we don't go to facebook to look at an empty website with ads, we are going for the posts of people we follow, or our friend's timeline and to post cool links.

Basically what you are doing on facebook, you can do on tsu.co (except they don't have an IRC, or groups, or pages, just tags, and messages) ; the big change is that tsu.co pays you back (and they provide some analytics for the visits).

Now the smart way to play the social media game is to setup your tsu.co account so it will be used as a proxy to post on facebook - and your twitter account.

The feeling you will have after a while browsing tsu.co is like walking through a shopping mall with people you don't really know. Many people are there to make money, and will send you friend requests, but they mean nothing, the only thing they want is a follow-back, visit their profile and that you will share their posts (because that's more or less how they make money).

Searching on tsu.co sucks, you are not supposed to look back for an old post, but to keep posting and posting (until you have filled your quotas).

Cosplay and porn - the mix was inevitable

Cosplay is a slippery field it seems, it's basically fans dressing themselves as their idols – the iconic wonder woman, Emma frost, Witchblade, Street fighter Cammy, or any sexy and powerful characters from movies, comics, anime or any sort of fictions...
It has no rules, no professionals (and yet some are getting closer to professionals makeup artist, or movie costumes maker, or actors …) - it used to be a field when the newbie enthusiast could have fun posing pretending to be cammy or black cat – that was back in early 2000s ; now cosplay is evolving and a gap is slowly but surely distancing the early fun type newbie and the self-called "professionals" like Yaya Han, because few are making money out of cosplay...

And then on top of this … enter the pornstars … and many of them.
And big shots too, like Tori Black (above) cosplaying "wonder woman" because of parody films – or "Phoenix Marie" cosplaying "Ms Marvel", or the talented Tanya Tate who clearly is enjoying herself cosplaying a variety of characters like Green Lantern or Emma Frost and is trying to attract (?!) a geek fandom.

It was inevitable, because cosplay is a bridge between fantasy and real life - between the glamour World of Superhero - and the business of porn. Think of the excitement of a male convention prepubescent geek, taking a selfie, having the signature and a little chat with Tanya Tate ... to understand the phenomenon.

But nobody can argue that female superhero costumes weren't the bait for this to happen in the first place.

I mean Siri cosplaying "Power girl" was not an accident.

Some say that it's sign of the "end of time" ... we'll see about that.

Hannah Minx


Hannah Wagner (better known by her stage name Miss Hannah Minx; born Oct. 1990) is an American vlogger known on Youtube for her Kawaii anime look and proportions (notice the frequent use of top down photo like the one above).

Her extensive cosplay in Japan, her informational videos about Japanese culture, and her JWOW (teaching a Japanese Word of the Week)/JPOW (Japanese Phrase of the Week) made her one of the most successful Youtube account.

Controversies, parodies, hateful comments nothing seems to stop Hannah, why?

Because Hannah Minx is quite a package of win

What are her angles? Japan, cosplay, teaching Japanese to the mass and being a geek with a big heart.

In my blog I've made some articles on famous cosplayers, and I wanted to add Miss Hannah Minx - even though she's not really a conventional cosplay girl ; because of her enthusiasm.

You can tell whatever you want about her characters or her videos, but you'll never get bored.

Cosplay rising to new heights

Cosplay is now for the pros


In the past during comics convention, a new trend was forming with fans making amateurish appearance in outfit hand-made and this was to the delight of the artists and visitors.

But today this Art is actually at a stage where it surpasses the simple portraying of comics book or movie star characters. With amazing skills, crafts, excellent photographs, the cosplayers are now entering a new level where they are “becoming” the characters. The illusion is complete.

And their level of mastery is even pushing them into making variations or even upgrading the current character's outfit to new level of awesomeness.


Rising stars

On this blog Crystal Graziano an outstanding cosplayer has been praised a couple of times - Since she has launched a video series ("Project Cosplay") on how she makes her mind blowing outfit.

And it was mentioned that Crystal Graziano is among the top brass of the North American cosplay - now there is a rising cosplay star in Mexico - she has the class, beauty and style making her the match to this new trend of cosplayers that are pushing the limits in designing outfits and cosplay.

Her name is Nadya Sonika - this post is an homage to her magnificent creations.
She has fan herself (and like many cosplayers today artist are drawing her and sending "fan art").

Which is quite a prowess, since cosplay (short for "costume play") is a type of performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character, and then now cosplayers themselves can have fan of their own.

Are we going to see a new type of fans cosplaying Bellechere, Jessica Nigri, Katybear, Megan Marie, Queen Riot, Crystal Graziano etc ... ?


Or movie with actual mainstream actress portraying cosplayers ? Well, that would be fun and I'll watch that for sure.

Cosplayer Spotlight


Back in 2011 a post has been made here ; about an outstanding cosplayer - she goes by the name of Crystal Graziano - and she is among the top brass of the American cosplay folks (among celebrity like Bellechere, Jessica Nigri, Katybear, Megan Marie, Queen Riot, etc ...).

No wonder she attracts success like a magnet - she has a dream body, the technical skills, the design genius, and the taste of a real professional. And she's getting better and better.

The only regret written back then, was that the beautiful Crystal Graziano didn't had any youtube videos yet. Well surprise, now there's plenty of excellent interviews of her at www.youtube.com/user/stagefivetv/ check for all videos titled "Project Cosplay" - 8 episodes featuring the missus.

Crystal : super sew it!

Remember my last post "Selvaria : sew it!" : My only regret is that Crystal doesn't have created a youtube account (yet).

Well, here it goes :

The costumes are spectacular, kudos for "Firefall" - the game looks a bit like Starcraft "Ghost" ... So happy, it's really good and Crystal is going stronger and stronger, and this is awesome!

Whatever cosplay she wears, she is always stellar in it.


Now, I only wish she would star in a movie ?!
I wouldn't mind seeing her playing "Black widow"
But what are the odds of that ...

Selvaria : sew it!

Selvaria from Valkyria Chronicles was once featured on this blog with the post on the Cerberus Project figurine.

Her full name is : Selvaria Bles and she is a 22 year old Brigadier General War Witch and one of the main antagonists in Valkyria Chronicles & Valkyria Chronicles 3.

This splendid character with silver hair had me stumble upon one of the most breathtaking cosplayer : Crystal Graziano - She really does Selvaria justice.

But then I found her various cosplay version of Cammy and then I really thought Crystal deserved to be featured in the blog. There was too many "serendipity".

My only regret is that Crystal doesn't have created a youtube account (yet).
