Microblogging and ping-o-matic

Ensuring that search engines discover your latest blog entry involves a few steps:

1. Submit Your Sitemap: Create an XML sitemap of your blog, listing all the URLs, and submit it to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools. This helps search engines understand your site structure and crawl it efficiently.

2. Internal Linking: Link to your new blog post from other relevant pages on your site. This helps search engine crawlers find the new content while they navigate through your site.

3. Social Media Sharing: Share your new blog post on social media platforms (facebook, instagram, tumblr, pinterest, whatsapp, etc ...). While this doesn't directly influence search engine crawls, it can attract users to your site, increasing the likelihood of search engine discovery.

4. Ping Services: Some services, like Ping-O-Matic, can notify search engines and blog directories about your new content. This can prompt them to crawl your site sooner.

5. Quality Content and SEO: Ensure your blog posts are well-optimized for search engines with relevant keywords, descriptive meta tags, and proper headings. High-quality content tends to get indexed and ranked faster.

However, keep in mind that search engines have their algorithms for crawling and indexing content, so there's no guaranteed way to enforce their crawl. It may take some time for them to discover and index your new content naturally.

Ping-O-Matic is a service that notifies multiple search engines and blog directories about updates to your website. It's been a popular tool among bloggers for many years. However, it appears that their blog hasn't been updated since 2015, which may raise concerns.

Procrastinating in 2024 (like it is the end of the World)

Procrastination can be linked to a variety of reasons, and understanding these is crucial for overcoming this behavior. Here are some common emotions behind procrastination:

1. Fear of Failure: The fear of not meeting one's own or others' expectations can lead to procrastination. The anxiety associated with the potential failure of a task might make an individual postpone getting started.

2. Perfectionism: A desire for perfection can be paralyzing. If a person feels that they must accomplish a task flawlessly, they might delay starting it due to the fear of making mistakes or not meeting exceptionally high standards.

3. Lack of Motivation: Procrastination often occurs when there is a lack of intrinsic motivation for a task. If the task lacks personal significance or if the rewards are not immediately apparent, it becomes easier to delay. This one is a big one nowadays, as we can see the World slowly turning into a dystopia and global warming getting more and more noticeable...

4. Low Self-Esteem: Individuals with low self-esteem may doubt their ability to successfully complete a task. This lack of self-confidence can lead to avoidance, escapism and procrastination.

5.Task Aversion: Certain tasks may evoke negative emotions or discomfort, leading to avoidance. This aversion might be due to boredom, dislike of the task, or a lack of interest in the subject matter. I mean was is the point anyway, since we are all going to die?!

Understanding these emotional factors can help individuals develop strategies to address the root causes of procrastination and build healthier habits for task management.

Navigating the Commissioned Art Market in the Age of AI

While the digital age has given opportunities for artists (digital or traditional) to showcase their work on the internet, a less discussed but equally significant consequence emerges – the economic challenges faced by artists relying on commissioned work. The proliferation of AI-driven tools and user-friendly platforms threatens to reshape the traditional market for personalized art, impacting the livelihoods of artists who thrive on commissions.

1. Erosion of Commissioned Art Market:

Many artists (hobbyists or professional) could earn a living through commissioned work, or add some revenue to their main income, by producing commissioned artworks (such as caricatures, portraits, or comic pages), but that was before 2022 as this market is being eroded by the accessibility of AI-powered tools.

2. Economic Realities for Artists:

Competing with AI tools is unfair, they are fast, produce relatively good quality artwork in matter of minutes, this is leaving artists potentially undervalued for their time and expertise. The customer could get dozen of possible artworks version in less than an hour, and if he has the assistance of a prompt engineer or a person skilled in Stable Diffusion (or midjourney), it is just a matter of retouching the best result they have selected in the end. Most AI artwork are public domain.

3. Quality vs. Quantity Debate:

There are tensions between artists and AI companies, because of the ease of producing AI-generated art quickly and the fact that the database (the checkpoint model) used to generate art is a mix of 'plundered' artwork produced by humans, some from past public domain source, or taken without permission.

Sure the unique, personalized touch that human artists bring to their creations is something that AI is not able to bring to the table, but many customers previously taking commissions are not art literate and will not perceive the difference.

4. Platform Dynamics:

Because some many AI generated images have flooded tumblr, facebook, pinterest, etc ... these new images being mixed with the real work of artists and hobbyist (trying to make a living) has impacted their visibility, client acquisition, and overall market presence.

5. Adaptation and Innovation:

The artists who manage to learn AI skills have successfully navigated this changing landscape by adapting their skills or finding innovative ways to collaborate with AI tools. And are now a lot more efficient, and produce more and with a keen professional eye.

While many others are struggling. Except for the renowned, recognized one.

The hope is that the future will empower artists to remain competitive while preserving the value of their craft in the face of technological disruption. The hope is that art communities are coming together to support one another, sharing insights, and fostering a sense of solidarity amid industry changes.

As the commissioned art market undergoes a transformation fueled by AI and automation, the economic realities for many artists become increasingly complex. Navigating this landscape requires a delicate balance between adapting to technological shifts and preserving the intrinsic value of personalized, handcrafted art. Artists and the broader creative community must engage in conversations, advocacy, and innovative solutions to ensure the sustainability of artistic livelihoods in the face of evolving digital landscapes.

The Mystery has been resolved

Have you ever found yourself staring at a photo, completely stumped about who's in it? Yeah, me too.

This has been going on for months, scratching my head over who could be that cosplayer, and I posted a few articles using this picture, hoping someday to find a match in google lens.

Enter the hero of this story, an online gentleman by the name of cliffordpadraig, who had the answer!

With a keen eye he identified the person in the photo as none other than the fabulous Fabibi World cosplay!

The mystery of the "unkown Cammy Bison cosplayer" photo was solved, and it was all thanks to this amazing individual.

Online small act of kindness have big impact.

It not only cleared up my confusion but also reminded me of the power of online communities.

Here was the picture:

Fabibi, the Chilean cosplay phenomenon, has graced stages at conventions worldwide, dazzling audiences with her diverse costume creations. Cammy White in her various flavor (Classic Cammy, Killer bee Cammy, and Bison Cammy).

Here is the link to clifford's blog: https://blogclif.wordpress.com/

Once again, thank you very much, good Sir!

Blog, microblogging, and returning for more

Blogging used to be the king way to publish content on the Internet back in the 2000s

Historically, wordpress, blogger, livejournal, and all these platforms used to be receiving enthusiastic bloggers daily content, that would start great exchange of ideas, experiences, tutorials, and that precluded the arrival of the game changer that was youtube

Blogs were superior because - they were searchable, using keywords
youtube videos - are searchable via keywords too - but when there is a 2 hours lecture of Tom Campbell, I don't think you could retrieve a particular video by typing a sentence you heard, and remembered - because it is a video and searching text within a video is not yet possible.

Currently writing in blogger.com seems to be like typing in an empty place - the blogger.com platform is not well designed for exchange.

How do you end up on this blog? probably via a google search
well, once you (reader) have found the content you were looking for, you leave and never come back

That is where the second game changer has arrived, facebook

This social platform from 2010 - is more like a microblogging platform - you can spend your entire day there on facebook and type 2 lines updates or post a meme, and leave - but then the next day most people are returning ; because their friends are there, their family and that will push them to come back.

Nobody has a family setting up a blog for each member, and typing their life experience, and exchanging there - because it is not a forum.

Wordpress now is that blogging social platform, that looks a bit like a cross between blogger.com and facebook - from there you can set up a reading list, add new content, but also like and reblog from other blogs you are following ...

Instagram too, in a way is enabling such social platform where the content (photo) is king - and allowing the exchange between users.

Blogger is kind of dead

Try googling content from blogger.com or blogspot.com

using a syntax like 'keyword -site:blogspot.com' and see what is coming up

Remember google wave, google plus ...

Feels like blogger is about to go down - that is just a feeling, but let's just say

that most of the blogger.com content is either spam, or plain crap

How much money can you make with patreon?

A formula

https://blog.patreon.com/figuring-out-how-much-you-might-make-on-patreon

How many followers?
From these followers, how many are active?
How many of these followers could convert to patrons?

Let's have an example - Teal Swan:
Current subscriptions on youtube - 589K
15% are active - 88K
7$ by Patrons (on average) - Teal might cash 618K per month!

Jessica Nigri:
Instagram followers : 3.7m (these don't convert easily to Patrons)
only 0.1% of instagram followers in average will convert
Youtube followers: 1.2m
15% are active - 180K
7$ by Patrons (on average) - Jessica might cash 1.2m per month!

Now the actual revenue for Miss Nigri is coming from 2736 Patrons - with an estimate of 19K per month - source: https://www.patreon.com/JessicaNigri

A social media that pays you : tsu.co

Talk about coincidence just a few days after I posted "Why an alternative to facebook is needed" mentioning ello.ch as the hot new facebook alternative... tsu.co was launched.

tsu.co

As ello.co motto was about counteracting facebook tendency to sell his users information to marketers - tsu.co goes for the revenue aspect.
Basically tsu.co rises the question to facebook users who are "content creators" (such as artists and celebrities) and ask them this simple question :
"How much money do you directly make by having x followers on your facebook page?"
Because the answer is most certainly : none

You can be a cosplayer like Jessica Nigri and have made nearly 3 Millions Followers and receive nothing from facebook advertising money.

Which is to be fair, a bit like working in an office where all your visitors are buying stuffs from your landlord while they are in the building and you don't make any money (you just don't pay rent).
Or like a radio station that would use many songs and never give any money back to the song artists...

tsu.co is here to mend a fundamental issue on the internet related to content creator and their lack of revenue, they want to distribute some money back to them : the "content creator" - because let's face it, we don't go to facebook to look at an empty website with ads, we are going for the posts of people we follow, or our friend's timeline and to post cool links.

Some facts

Basically what you are doing on facebook, you can do on tsu.co (except they don't have an IRC, or groups, or pages, just tags, and messages) ; the big change is that tsu.co pays you back (and they provide some analytics for the visits).

Best of 2 worlds

Now the smart way to play the social media game is to setup your tsu.co account so it will be used as a proxy to post on facebook - and your twitter account.

The feeling you will have after a while browsing tsu.co is like walking through a shopping mall with people you don't really know. Many people are there to make money, and will send you friend requests, but they mean nothing, the only thing they want is a follow-back, visit their profile and that you will share their posts (because that's more or less how they make money).

Searching on tsu.co sucks, you are not supposed to look back for an old post, but to keep posting and posting (until you have filled your quotas).

Cosplay rising to new heights

Cosplay is now for the pros

In the past during comics convention, a new trend was forming with fans making amateurish appearance in outfit hand-made and this was to the delight of the artists and visitors.

But today this Art is actually at a stage where it surpasses the simple portraying of comics book or movie star characters. With amazing skills, crafts, excellent photographs, the cosplayers are now entering a new level where they are “becoming” the characters. The illusion is complete.

And their level of mastery is even pushing them into making variations or even upgrading the current character's outfit to new level of awesomeness.

Rising stars

On this blog Crystal Graziano an outstanding cosplayer has been praised a couple of times - Since she has launched a video series ("Project Cosplay") on how she makes her mind blowing outfit.

Nadya Sonika - Fan art

And it was mentioned that Crystal Graziano is among the top brass of the North American cosplay - now there is a rising cosplay star in Mexico - she has the class, beauty and style making her the match to this new trend of cosplayers that are pushing the limits in designing outfits and cosplay.

Her name is Nadya Sonika - this post is an homage to her magnificent creations.
She has fan herself (and like many cosplayers today artist are drawing her and sending "fan art").

Which is quite a prowess, since cosplay (short for "costume play") is a type of performance art in which participants wear costumes and accessories to represent a specific character, and then now cosplayers themselves can have fan of their own.

Are we going to see a new type of fans cosplaying Bellechere, Jessica Nigri, Katybear, Megan Marie, Queen Riot, Crystal Graziano etc ... ?

Or movie with actual mainstream actress portraying cosplayers ? Well, that would be fun and I'll watch that for sure.

Blogging like it's the end of the world

Blogging it's a way of life, the more you blog the better you get at blogging.

Now that St Patrick is over, Spring is coming and everybody is starting to make plan to go picnic and hiking outside, but some bloggers are still in front of their computer trying to find content for their beloved blog.

That's what blogging is ... writing post, here and there - and building something that will last.

I can easily picture any blogger as the "Doom guy" on top of a mountain trying to survive, being attacked by procrastination, laziness, auto-critics, etc ... but he will prevails and his blog will be awesome.

5 Ways Blogging Can Save Your Sanity : "Once you start blogging, you begin to pay closer attention to the world around you. You notice the details, live in the present moment, and relish the life lessons, because these become the themes you will write about. You stop going through the motions, living your life on auto-pilot, and instead fully engage in everything that happens. This simple shift in your approach improves the quality of your life in unimaginable ways."

How to Publish your own Book

Maybe you've read about self-published author "Amanda Hocking" (the 26 years old writer from Austin, Minnesota) and you're wondering how to self-publish yourself ?

First thing to notice about her, is that she tried very hard before succeeding - she had the story, the writing skills, the book was ready, the only thing that was preventing her to get published was actually ... publishers, which thought the public wouldn't like her book ?! which thought some other books should have priority ... whatever the reason, Amanda did the good thing and past over their head.

This story is really inspiring and a big hope for freelance and occasional writers because it means everyone got a chance now - and that's for the public to decide what they like.

I prepared a selection of links to help you publish your book :

How To Publish Your Own Book (In Print) Cheaply

How to self publish your book explained in 2 mn

Other inspiring success stories from Lulu

But now don't be fooled, when the book is out there - it doesn't mean it will sell ... because on top of having writing skills ... you'll have to master the techniques to promote your book, and find ways to spread the word about it using clever marketing ...

Now if you make it big, make a book about it. I'll definitely buy it!

What is "BlogThis!" (a great bookmarklet)

Today I'll share a little secret on how I write my blog.

In the past I used to bookmark links I wanted to post about using delicious.com and then came back later and start posting about it... the main problem was that usually when I had some spare time to write a post I completely forgot many links and or couldn't find them back in my delicious account (which tend to be a mess) and when I finally found or remembered it the "hot news" wasn't hot anymore ...

Now, Thanks to a bookmarklet found on the "blogger help" I can basically bookmark link directly to a blogger draft, and therefor the first step of hot-linking to a "hot news" or a typing a few word on the spot is done. And that ... really makes my blogging experience a lot more efficient.

What is BlogThis! ?

Found a new one!

Remember the post about "The key is being blonde and having a mission"

Lucky me today I found another one Justine Ezarik... she's blonde but I'm still not sure about her mission ?!

See for yourself iJustine (ijustine) on Twitter:

"I am the internet! Apple fan, Youtuber, technology lover and avid twitter! Be my friend!"

Maybe she just want to be friend with everybody - sounds cool
