Bridge is also called the Second Street Bridge, White River Bridge, or the Quadripod. The latter name is due to the main tower being composed of four steel tubes that meet at the top. The configuration of four poles that make up the tower structure is unique within North America.

Columbus, Indiana, is world famous for its architecture. A local organization, the Cummins Foundation (of the Cummings diesel engine fame) has for years written blank checks to pay for world famous architects to come to Columbus and design municipal structures. As a result, this small town has over 60 buildings that are architecturally significant. A second stunning and unique bridge just up the highway two miles from this bridge carries I-65 over State Road 46. That bridge uses a similar set of steel tubes to form two arches that meet at the top, with the bridge structure suspended from the arches using cable stay technology.
