Rehabilitation Bureau
The Rehabilitation Bureau is responsible for administration matters concerning the parole of those in correctional institutions, the probation of those on parole, those on probation with suspended sentences and juveniles on parole, and pardons, crime prevention activities and measures for crime victims. Such work is called Offender Rehabilitation, and the direct work is carried out by regional parole boards, which are set up at eight locations in each High Court jurisdiction, and probation offices, which are set up at 50 locations throughout the country in each District Court jurisdiction. In addition, along with these duties, it is responsible for administration matters concerning community-based treatment based on the "medical treatment and supervision system" with the aim of promoting the reintegration of mentally disabled people who have committed serious harm under the condition of insanity, etc.
