Thing
Things are 3D objects that appear in Paper Mario: Sticker Star and Paper Mario: Color Splash . Contrary to most elements of those games, Things do not appear to be made of paper or similar materials but are instead modeled realistically.

Paper Mario: Sticker Star[edit ]

Things (lowercased) make their debut appearance in Paper Mario: Sticker Star. They appear in the overworld and may have an effect on their surroundings, such as the Fan in Bouquet Gardens, while others can only be accessed via a Secret Door. When collected, they are added to the Things section in Mario's album. They then need to be flattened at a Sling-a-Thing stand to be converted into a sticker that can be used in combat or be placed in specific spots in the levels via paperization. When used, a thing sticker summons a flattened thing that has an effect on enemies or the overworld.
While the album can hold an unlimited number of things that Mario collected, the amount of thing stickers that the album can hold at the same time is limited. Things that are currently in Mario's album, be that in normal or sticker form, do not reappear in stages. A thing that Mario has lost can be found back in the stage in which it appeared or be bought at a secluded stand west of Decalburg.
Paper Mario: Color Splash[edit ]
Things (now capitalized) return in Paper Mario: Color Splash. In this game, as soon as Mario collects a Thing, it immediately gets squeezed into a Thing Card that can be used in battle or to solve puzzles in the overworld via Cutout. Contrary to thing stickers in the previous game, the Things summoned by Thing Cards are not flattened but actual 3D objects.
Two Thing-related Toads can be found the harbor district of Port Prisma: the Know-it-All Toad, who gives Mario hints about which Things he needs, and the Wringer, who sells Mario Things that he had previously squeezed.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[edit ]
While Things do not return as collectible items in Paper Mario: The Origami King , the Legion of Stationery members are visually similar to Things, being large, realistic-looking, 3D objects, although they have an antagonist role. Moreover, the Fan Thing makes an appearance in The Great Sea.
