Area 6 is the best-defended sector under Andross's control. The defenses make it hard for any larger ships to break through -- but a small (s)quad of Arwings may just stand a chance.

The element of surprise is not on Team Fox's side as they head into Area 6. This sector is home to tough Umbra Class Stations, Frigates, Cruisers, and more. Watch your shields as you thread the needle on this tough approach.

Through the Middle

You're thrown into the middle of an entire squadron of enemy fighters. Blast them all for an instant Laser upgrade.

You'll face saucer-shaped Umbra Class Stations that may seem impervious to fire, but can actually be destroyed. Rapid-fire at them until you see the +3 hit bonus pop up, which tells you they're done for.

Blast the five fighters for a much-needed Bomb while also keeping an eye out for Falco, who is being targeted by another group of fighters. Blast them, then fire at each Umbra in your path while hitting the brakes to get the maximum number of shots in.

You'll get to an Umbra station with a Gold Ring below and a Laser upgrade above. Go for the ring and then trigger a loop to get both.

The three Harlock-Class Frigates adorned with skulls look tough, but if you target them with laser fire they'll also go down.

They are followed by so-called Ninjin Missiles (ninjin is Japanese for carrot). Blast the orange menace before they can damage your shields.

Next, fire away at the heat-seeking missiles on Peppy's tail. You have to fire quick and don't have time to lock on to help him make it through this mission.

You'll get an incoming call. But it's not ROB64 -- it's just Andross taunting you and trying to distract you from blasting his allies. Ignore him and shoot down the Killer Bee for a Gold Ring.

Keep shooting at Umbra Stations, then take out another Killer Bee (for another Gold Ring), and you'll get to the Checkpoint Ring.

There's a Laser upgrade and a Gold Ring ahead, followed by a group of fighters flying in a ring-shaped formation. Lock on and fire two charge blasts to take them down. If you get them all, you'll get another Laser upgrade.

Next up are even larger ships: Zeram-Class Cruisers. These big destroyers have destructible cannons on their bow -- but their real weak spot is the bridge at the top of the ship. Rapid-fire your lasers at it and you can take down the entire cruiser. Try to get the next two, as well.

You'll get an assist from the Great Fox for the rest. Concentrate your fire on their cannons for extra hits. You'll find a Bomb power-up and a Laser upgrade among the cruisers. But also listen for Slippy's distress call: he's got Butterfly fighters on his tail that you should lock-on to and destroy.

ROB64 will call you and drop a supply cate if you answer. There are three more Cruisers ahead -- each with an pick-up item: a Bomb, Laser, and finally a Ring.

Only Path: Destroy the Gorgon

Requirement: Make it to the Gorgon boss and destroy it

You will face off with the Gorgon, a deadly saucer-like ship that can fire a devastating beam and even cloak. The Gorgon has a shell that's impervious to laser fire -- so you need it to open up before you can cause damage. Meanwhile, you'll be attacked with missiles and enemies fighters, which can be destroyed for power-ups.

To get it to open the shell, fire at its mechanical tentacles. Dodge them when the Gorgon fires them at you, then resume your fire. When they're all gone, the ship's outer shell will open up.

Shoot the three moving energy balls inside the Gorgon. Each time you do this, it will get it closer to being vulnerable. After destroy them twice, the Gorgon fires its deadly laser. Spin our of its way to avoid massive damage.

After repeating your attack pattern, the core of the Gorgon will become vulnerable and will light up red when you fire at it. Concentrate your fire at the core and the ship will blow up.
