How Volatile Artifacts Work

Posted:

Volatile Artifacts start to appear in Saros as you get higher stats on your character. The three stats you have to worry about are Command, Drive, and Resilience. Although you primarily level them up at Primary through the Armor Matrix, you can also increase them during a run in a biome, and when they get too high, Volatile Artifacts begin to appear. Here's everything you need to know about how Volatile Artifacts work while playing Saros.

What are Volatile Artifacts in Saros

Volatile Artifacts occur more often as you increase your three primary stats in Saros. Usually, anything above 120 or 130 has a slim chance of becoming Volatile, and you'll know this before you accept any Artifact. You'll see in the bottom text that there's a low, medium, or high chance that an Artifact that you pick up can cause an Attribute to become Volatile. When this happens, you're not losing out on that stat, but something negative does happen, and it varies for each stat.

The Volatile stat becomes something new, and it gives you a negative passive that you have to deal with for the rest of your run. You cannot get rid of a Volatile stat, even if you remove the Volatile Artifact, until you return to the Passage.

These are the various Volatile stats you have to deal with in Saros.

  • Command Volatility - When Command becomes Volatile, it transforms into Ignorance. For the rest of the run, you cannot see the Corruption Effects that are Artifacts.
  • Drive Volatility - When Drive comes Volatile, it transforms into Neglience. Now, if you die during your run, you lose all Lucenite when you return to the Passage.
  • Resilience Volatility - When Resilience becomes Volatile, it transforms into Arrogance. For the rest of the run, all enemy health bars are hidden from you.

Some may impact your run more than others, depending on your playstyle. For example, the Resilience volatility may not be an issue, as you don't pay attention or care to observe an enemy's health bar during combat, but the Command Volatility, when it becomes Ignorance, could be a larger issue. You might not know if a Corruption attached to an Artifact will impact you as much, such as getting one that increases your Dash cooldown.

Beyond these changes, and having a different name, your Attributes do not change. You'll still continue to see Volatile Artifacts until each of your stats has transformed, or you've completed a run and start over. You'll see these appear far more often in the later portions of Saros, especially if you're trying to unlock the True Ending of the game.
