Best Friends Benefits Explained
One of the many exciting new quality of life changes introduced as part of Disney Dreamlight Valley's Pixel Perfect update on July 29, 2026 is the Best Friends system. Best Friends benefits allow you to ask your Villager friends to collect items for you, fast travel to them on the map, and even get an extra-special bonus when you Hang Out with Level 10 Villagers!
This guide will explain everything you need to know about how each type of Best Friend Benefits work in Disney Dreamlight Valley and how to use them to get lots of items fast!
A NOTE FROM GUIDE WRITER KATE
The Pixel Perfect update introduced a Merlin Quest, "The Magic of Friendship!" , in which the wise wizard instructs you as to how exactly Best Friends Benefits work. Completing this Quest is a great way to learn all about what your Best Friends can do.
However, completing it is NOT required to unlock Best Friends Benefits, and you can access them without doing so!
Item Collection
Villagers who have reached Friendship Level 7 or higher can collect items for you. Each Villager can be asked to collect items once per day.
Approach any eligible Villager and talk to them. A new option will appear, which says "Can you help me find something?" with a magnifying glass icon next to it.
Select this option and you will be presented with a full list of what that Villager can collect for you and how many of each item they might find. Villagers can only collect items related to their Specialty. For example, Mining Villagers can collect any Gem or Minerals, while Farming Villagers can collect Crops and Fishing Villagers can collect Fish or Seafood.
For the purpose of Item Collection, Flowers are considered part of the Foraging Specialty.
Seafood picked up from the ground (Clams and Scallops) is considered part of the Digging Specialty. At this time, Oysters cannot be collected by Villagers. We do not know why this is the case and believe it may be an error.
Some items may be part of multiple Specialties. These include Stone and Coal Ore (Digging and Mining) and the Storybook Vale item Sea Grapes (Fishing and Foraging).
Items from DLC you own are included as options for Item Collection. Timebending Parts from Eternity Isle and Snippets from Storybook Vale require Villagers with the Timebending and Snippet Collecting Specialty respectively to collect them.
If you want to change Villagers' Specialties so that you can have them collect a specific item you need, you can craft a Training Manual of that Specialty and give it to them. Previously, only Villagers who had reached Friendship Level 10 could receive Training Manuals. However, as of the Pixel Perfect update, Training Manuals can now be gifted to Villagers of any level.
The following items can NOT be collected by Villagers:
- Items related to limited-time events, such as Eggs, Marshmallows, and Festive Fish
- Items that can only be found at stalls or businesses, such as the Tea Leaves obtained from Mulan's Tea Stall, the ingredients sold at Chez Remy, and the Red Rose flower found at The Beast's Flower Stall
- The crafting material Pixel Shard, which is obtained while visiting other players' Valleys in multiplayer mode
After you have asked a Villager to collect an item, you must wait until the next day to receive it. The following day, talk to the Villager and you will receive your item. Villagers who have an item for you will have a magnifying glass speech bubble floating over their head, and their icon on the Map will also have a magnifying glass.
Note that you cannot change which item a Villager is collecting after you have asked them to do it, but you can talk to the Villager at any time during the day to get a reminder of what item they are currently collecting for you.
Item Collection Amounts
The amount of each item a Villager can collect for you is NOT based on how many of that item is present in your Valley. For example, you can ask a Gardening Villager to find you Potatoes even if you have not currently planted any Potatoes.
Asking a Villager for an item that is present in your Valley in limited quantities, such as Flowers, will NOT decrease how many of that item is available for you to collect. You can ask a Foraging Villager to find you a Black Passion Lily, and there can still be 2 Black Passion Lilies growing in your Frosted Heights biome.
Instead, each type of Item has a set number (or range of numbers) that the Villager can find. You can see this number when clicking on an item in the menu that appears after asking a Villager "Can you help me find something?" For items with a range of numbers, such as 2-5, how many the Villager finds each day is random.

Fast Travel To Your Best Friends
When a Villager has reached Friendship Level 10, you can Fast Travel to their location. From the Map, select the Villager and choose the "Fast Travel" option. Villagers who are eligible for this benefit will be marked with a heart in the lower left corner of their map icon!
You cannot Fast Travel to a Villager who is in their House, in a Realm, or on a Floating Island. You can, however, Fast Travel to Villagers who are in Scrooge's Store, Chez Remy, or Tiana's Palace.
This feature is not available while you are in any location where you cannot access the Map menu, such as inside Houses or in the Vitalys Mines.
Best Friends Hangouts
Any Villager who has reached Friendship Level 10 can have one Best Friends Hangout once per day. During a Best Friends Hangout, you get all sorts of bonus effects that makes obtaining various items much easier!
How To Start A Best Friends Hangout
Each Level 10 Villager has their Friendship bar replaced with a Gold Heart Progress Bar. The bar can be filled once per day and resets daily.
You can fill the Gold Heart Progress Bar in all the same ways you raise a Villager's Friendship. These include:
- Having Daily Discussions
- Hanging Out with them and performing tasks
- Giving them Gifts (as with Friendship, a Villager's daily Favorite Gifts fill the Progress Bar much faster)
- Playing mini-games such as Scramblecoin and Pooh Sticks
Asking a Villager to collect an item for you will also fill their Progress Bar slightly.
A NOTE FROM GUIDE WRITER KATE
Having a Daily Discussion with a Villager, giving them all three of their Favorite Gifts, and asking them to collect an item for you is enough to fill their Progress Bar to max!
If you don't have access to their Favorite Gifts (although, as of the Pixel Perfect update, you can now re-roll a Villager's Favorite Gifts once per day) the best way to raise progress is to give them lots of high-value Gifts such as Cooked Meals, Shiny Gems, and rare Flowers.
Once a Villager's Gold Heart Progress Bar has maxed out, Hang Out with them to initiate a Best Friends Hangout. (If you are already Hanging Out with them, it will start automatically).
Best Friends Hangout Benefits
Best Friends with a full Progress Bar have a Best Friends Glow. Villagers with an active Best Friends Glow will have gold icons on the Map screen. Additionally, the "Hang out" option that appears when talking to a Villager will glow gold.
While Best Friends Glow is active, you will get the following benefits:
- The Villager will be treated as if they have the maximum bonus in every Specialty. They will generate bonus items for you while harvesting Crops, Foraging, Digging, Fishing, and Mining. (and Timebending and catching Snippets if you have the Eternity Isle and Storybook Vale expansions respectively.)
- When you sprint or glide , your Best Friends Glow meter will drain instead of your Stamina.
How Long Does A Best Friends Hangout Last?
Once a Villager's Gold Heart Progress Bar maxes out and they develop Best Friends Glow, they will have 500 Points to use. When the points run out , the Best Friends Hangout ends!
You can check how many Best Friends Points you have left in your current Hangout by accessing the 'Active Bonuses' menu. The Active Bonuses menu appears on the right side of your screen and has an icon showing several arrows pointing up. This menu lists Bonuses such as those provided by Companions, Miracle Tool Enchantments, and Villagers you are Hanging Out with.
Performing one action, such as harvesting one Crop or catching one Fish, drains between 2 and 8 points. Foraging, Digging, and harvesting Crops drain fewer points, while Mining and Fishing take more.
While you are Sprinting or Gliding, your points drain steadily at a rate of roughly 1 point per second.
Once you are out of points, your Best Friends Hangout ends. You can only have one Best Friends Hangout with each Villager per day. So, once your favorite Villager is out of points, you'll need to wait until the next day to become Best Friends again!
If you stop Hanging Out with a Villager mid-Best Friends Hangout, you can start again with the same number of points remaining at any time during the same day. However, points do not carry over between real-world days - every Villager starts each day with an empty Progress Bar.
Generally, it is recommended that you take full advantage of each Best Friends Hangout by draining their points fully before moving on to the next one. Because they don't roll over, there's no point in saving them!
