How to Make Peace Deals
If you’ve grown weary of war, it’s always possible to make a Peace Deal in Civilization 7. If a war is too costly to continue, you may offer one of your settlements to create peace and pursue a victory type other than a military one. Ideally, however, you will receive another power’s city as part of a Peace Deal, without sacrificing anything yourself. Peace deals, in other words, can be a good way to expand your empire.
If you’d like to end a war in Civilization 7, here’s how to make a Peace Deal.
How to Make Peace Deals
Obviously, you can’t make a Peace Deal unless you’re at war with another empire, so if it’s free cities you’re after, try to declare war on another leader - preferably a weaker one. Make sure you know how to take cities and how to heal units before doing so!
To start peace negotiations, click on the enemy’s portrait in the upper right corner of the screen, which will open the Diplomacy menu. The option to ‘propose peace’ is at the bottom of the screen:
Beware that you won’t be able to propose peace within the first 10 turns of the war!
Once the wait is over, you can open the Diplomacy menu again and choose 'propose peace'. In the negotiation menu, you can offer one of your own settlements or ask the enemy to give you one of theirs. If you want the latter (which is, of course, the best option for you), click on one of the enemy's settlements in the column on the right to move it into the 'offer' column.
In this picture, we're asking Ashoka for the town of Taksasila, but we can already see that he will reject this offer. If we still want to obtain Taksasila through a Peace Deal, we'll have to weaken Ashoka's empire, so he'll become more willing to give up the town.
Instead of offering or demanding settlements, it's possible to offer nothing at all by leaving the 'offer' column empty. If such a Peace Deal is accepted, neither party receives anything but the war will be over. You're free to focus on other goals, such as growing your population or founding new cities.
Once a Peace Deal has been signed, the relationship between you and the other Civilization 7 Leader will likely remain hostile. If you want to repair it and you've got enough Influence, go to the Diplomacy screen and choose a positive action such as 'reconciliation'. With any luck, you'll soon be friends again!
