Memnagerie

Memnagerie is the third episode of the My Little Pony Friendship is Magic mini-series Friendship is Forever. It is the third of six^[1] clip show episodes that feature footage from previous episodes. The title is a play on the word "menagerie".

In this episode, Fluttershy reminisces about her past moments of kindness while Twilight Sparkle assists her in overseeing rehearsals for the animal presentation for Twilight's princess coronation.

This episode aired on 9Go! and was released on the 9Now on-demand service in Australia on May 4, 2020. It also aired on PLUSPLUS in Ukraine on July 22, 2021. The episode currently remains unreleased on U.S. television channels or streaming services.

Summary[ ]

At the Sweet Feather Sanctuary, Fluttershy is overseeing rehearsals for her animal friends' performance for Twilight Sparkle's upcoming coronation. She has invited Twilight to the sanctuary to assist her because she is having trouble getting the animals to listen to her. Twilight believes the animals might be picking up on Fluttershy's stage fright, which she has struggled with on past occasions. When Fluttershy starts to doubt her own assertiveness, Twilight says she has improved considerably, though Fluttershy recalls times when she took assertiveness too far. Despite this, Twilight has absolute faith in her.

When the animals continue to ignore Fluttershy's instructions, Twilight suggests she use her Stare, recalling the time she stared down a cockatrice. Fluttershy says the Stare is not always effective, finding better results when her animal friends give assistance of their own free will. As the animals start to leave the Sanctuary, Twilight appeals to them, mentioning times when Fluttershy stood up for them, tamed an angry manticore, and calmed down a winterzilla. Unfortunately, Twilight's words fall on deaf ears due to her inability to communicate with animals.

Fluttershy gives up, believing that the animals' coronation routine (and her ideas in general) is not that important in the grand scheme of things. However, Twilight recalls times when Fluttershy's ideas proved invaluable, like when she uncovered the identity of Mage Meadowbrook. When Fluttershy questions her own patience, Twilight reminds her that she was patient enough to reform and befriend Discord. Her confidence restored, Fluttershy approaches her animal friends and convinces them to continue rehearsing. The animals listen this time, and Fluttershy thanks Twilight for the confidence boost.

As Twilight leaves the Sanctuary, Fluttershy commends her animals for a job well done, and Starlight Glimmer and Spike come out of hiding. It is revealed that Fluttershy's trouble getting her animals to listen to her was a ruse to get Twilight to reminisce about her memories of Fluttershy so that Starlight and Spike can fill the magical scrapbook that they plan to give to Twilight at her coronation. With this objective complete, Fluttershy and her animals get back to rehearsals for real.

Fluttershy: Eloise, Hubert, we've barely practiced for the coronation at all today. How can you be tired already?

Twilight Sparkle: Come on! You can't all just abandon Fluttershy like this! Don't you want to stand by her? Think of all the times she stood up for you.

Fluttershy: It's not your fault, Twilight. You said some wonderful things. I even blushed a little.

Fluttershy: It's not like the routine was all that important. None of my ideas are. Not in the grand scheme of things.

Fluttershy: This coronation routine is just too difficult. I don't think I have the patience to round everyone up and try again.

Twilight Sparkle: [laughs]

Fluttershy: What's so funny?

Twilight Sparkle: I'm sure dealing with your animal friends is frustrating sometimes, but you've dealt with the most frustrating being in existence.

Fluttershy: Getting Twilight to believe my animal friends were giving me trouble was even easier than I thought. After that, it was simple to get her to reminisce about all the things we've been through together.
