It has been proposed that Wikimedians from eight regions of the world should be represented on a Movement Charter drafting committee.
- ESEAP: East and Southeast Asia, and the Pacific region
- SAARC: South Asia
- MENA: Middle East and North Africa
- Indaba: Africa, as per Wiki Indaba, an approximately annual conference
- CEE and CA: Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia
- Northern and Western Europe
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- North America (sometimes including the Caribbean); see WikiConference North America
Funding regions
In June 2023, the funding regions of Wikimedia Foundation Funds were aligned with the eight regions of Wikimedia Foundation. The funding regions are:
These regions differ slightly from the regular regions to better fit their geographical locations, with Djibouti being relocated to Sub-Saharan Africa and French Guiana to South America. Although geographically within Middle East & North Africa, Israel was relocated to North & Western Europe, despite being closer to Central & Eastern Europe & Central Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa.
