Before deleting, did you ensure there are no incoming links either on this or on other sites? --Nemo 16:48, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

I actually moved it and did not completely delete it - so a redirect can be placed if there is an issue. However, I did not notice any active uses that seemed to be an issue. I just double checked and did fix one link from a now mostly unused page that I overlooked before. Most prior references were actually wrong, in part why this rename was done. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 16:51, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
Ok, if you say so. --Nemo 17:02, 8 August 2015 (UTC)
As far as I can tell anyway - but always happy to have anyone else double check. :) --Varnent (talk)(COI) 17:03, 8 August 2015 (UTC)

Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
  • Discussions
    • Successful request for oversight rights: Sjoerddebruin
  • Events/Blogs/Press
    • Wikimedia UK is organizing a Wikidata training session. You can sign up here.
  • Other Noteworthy Stuff
    • Talk pages on Wikidata can now be converted to use Flow. You can request migrating your talk page at d:Wikidata:Flow.
    • Mix-n-Match got a bunch of new catalogs for you to match up with Wikidata. Currently matching is happening at about 500 items per day. Pretty sweet :)
    • @happybirthdayauthors is a new Twitter account posting reading suggestions based on Wikidata data.
    • Arbitrary access is rolling out to a large number of wikis over the next two weeks.
    • Duplicity can help you match up unlinked Wikipedia articles to a Wikidata item.
  • Did you know?
  • Development
    • Made some small changes to the style of the edit warning and sitelinks so they are easier to notice and understand
    • Added error messages for Special:GoToLinkedPage and Special:ItemByTitle so you get a useful message in case no result is found
    • The Entity Selector now displays alias in brackets behind label
    • The number of entities loaded via the {{#property:...}} parser function and via Lua will be reported in the "Parser profiling data" (which can be found below a page preview or within the Html of a page)
    • Prepared for next rounds of arbitrary access rollout
    • Investigated growing lag of dispatching of changes to Wikipedia and co. We'll need to investigate further and change things so the lag between an edit on Wikidata and it being send to the Wikipedias and other projects is not too high.
    • Added the property ID to Special:ListProperties
    • Moved two extensions (Wikidata.org and WikimediaBadges) from Github to Gerrit. More will follow.
    • We'd like to drop a database table. Discussion is ongoing.
  • Monthly Tasks
    • Hack on one of these.
    • Help develop the next summary here!
    • Contribute to a Showcase item
    • Help translate or proofread pages in your own language!
    • Add labels, in your own language(s), for the new properties listed above.

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.

  • The "Your preferences have been saved" message has changed. You can now see more easily what was saved when you change preferences several times. [12]
  • You can now play Ogg video files in some browsers that don't support this format. This solution uses JavaScript and works on desktop browsers only for now. It will work on mobile later. [13]
  • You can now use the same tools to edit style in VisualEditor on mobile as in desktop browsers. [14]
  • It is now easier to see if there is a JavaScript error in a user or site script. [15]
  • JavaScript authors:
    • You can no longer use the Sajax library. You can see a list of pages to fix. [16] [17]
    • You can no longer use document.write on Wikimedia wikis. You can see a list of pages to fix. [18] [19]
  • The content translation tool now works better. It is easier to use math, and useless tags are no longer added. [20]

Problems

  • More edits have been rejected due to loss of session data lately. This is now fixed. [21]
  • Importing a Lua module sometimes didn't work. This is now fixed. [22]

LangCat vs #translation:

Latest comment: 9 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hi! {{Langcat}} is obsolete and will be gradually replaced to {{#translation:}}. Please use {{#translation:}} magic word for new uses. --Kaganer (talk) 02:28, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing that out. I noticed that recently, but obviously had already extensively used it by then. I have since stopped using the old template. I also updated the documentation for langcat to note the correct procedure, and updated the edittools for Meta-Wiki to use the new method. I hope that helps. Thank you again for letting me know. I appreciate the notes on how to edit better. :) --Varnent (talk)(COI) 02:49, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Varnent, just wanted to thank you for volunteering to participate in a committee and to help us out during our pilot period. Wolliff or I will be in touch about how and where we could use your help in the coming weeks. Take care, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 23:43, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Updating scripts

Latest comment: 9 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello Varnent. I edited your global.js and common.js to update deprecated functions.

I noticed you have a copy of the regex menu framework in User:Varnent/Scriptsmod/Regex menu framework.js with a few customisations. The regex menu framework is obsolete and unmaintained, so I'm helping users migrate to the much newer TemplateScript (which includes all its features). Do you still need that page? —Pathoschild 03:11, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Excellent - thank you! --Varnent (talk)(COI) 18:40, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Err, thanks for using the parser function I bribed a developer into getting merged ;), but why not ask a bot instead? --Nemo 20:32, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Mostly because there are some oddball uses here and there. --Varnent (talk)(COI) 20:33, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Flood

Latest comment: 9 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hi. Your edits are still being displayed on Recent Changes, despite having the flood flag set. Maybe something in AWB that makes override the flag? —Marco Aurelio 14:33, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Very strange - thank you for the heads up. I stopped, closed the application, and started things up again - seems to be working. My best guess is that I set the flood tag after I had logged in via AWB (oops) - so perhaps it needed to be logged out and back in? Not sure, that isn't necessary for web based edits...hmm... In any case, seems to be working again, thank you again for the heads up. :) --Varnent (talk)(COI) 14:36, 26 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for marking L&E Toolkits for translation!

Latest comment: 9 years ago 3 comments2 people in discussion

Hi Varnent,
Thanks for helping out marking the page for translation.
I am wondering about marking categories for translation. I saw you marked all the categories on that page with . It works ok for some categories, but not for others. I hadn't seen this markup before, so I thought I'd ask you: is there anything we can do to make the categorization work?
Thanks for your help and support! María (WMF) (talk) 18:04, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
