Automatic archive

Latest comment: 9 years ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Hi. Is that possible to automatically archive this page? Thanks. -- M\A 13:39, 31 March 2015 (UTC)

The main SRM I mean of course. Thanks. -- M\A 13:40, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
I asked Steinsplitter and he set it up in a few minutes. It will be run once a month on this page. --Glaisher (talk) 16:22, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
Thank you, really. Once or twice a month would be great. -- M\A 22:44, 11 April 2015 (UTC)

Asking for multiple IP vandalism

Latest comment: 8 years ago 8 comments3 people in discussion

Greetings from Thai Wikipedia. I have a problem to discuss. Recently, there is a person who use multiple IPs to vandalize our Wikipedia. Many IP he or she used have been blocked but he or she keep using another IP to keep vandalizing. I tried to use AbuseFilter to prevent some of the known pattern. But the person also comes up with a new way of vandalism. My question is 'is there anyway to block him or her from keep using new IP?' Thank you in advance. --Horus (talk) 14:18, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Can you provide us with links to examples of edits and abuse filters? Ruslik (talk) 17:51, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
Here are the abuse filter in question and the abuse log. Examples of the vandalism are:
[1] In this very first vandalism, he filed a delete request claiming that ปลาตีน (lit. fish with feet) is bad language.
[2] In this instance, he filed a delete request stating "Must use polite language," as well as deletion unhold stating "Feet is already polite."
[3] In this instance, he filed a delete request stating "เหี้ย" (Water monitor) is bad language. --Horus (talk) 23:04, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
I see only two /16 ranges. You can try to soft block them. Or you can block some narrower ranges. Ruslik (talk) 20:21, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. --Horus (talk) 11:14, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Just to be clear, is there any tools to track multiple IPs to a place or person and then block them entirely? --Horus (talk) 18:11, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
With this tool: https://tools.wmflabs.org/xtools/rangecontribs/ you can view multiple IP contributions and/or contributions of IP range. —Ah3kal (talk) 18:17, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks also. --Horus (talk) 16:25, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

OAuth application proposal workflow

Latest comment: 7 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

What do you think about updating MediaWiki:Mwoauthconsumerregistration-propose-text and replacing the stewards reference with something like "if no one responds to your request within a few days, leave a message at Stewards request..."? Since Echo notifications have been enabled for OAuth admins, stewards requests seem a waste of time, with almost all requests approved by the time stewards look at it. (Stewards insterested in responding to requests should feel free to add themselves to the oauthadmin group.) --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 17:50, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

@Tgr (WMF): I'd not mind. After all it's a technical permission and it's the tech people the ones who would more accurately address the requests. If, moreover, you receive Echo notifications each time a new consumer is proposed, then it's one page less to watchlist. Thanks, —Marco Aurelio 20:42, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Talk about vandalism

Stewards who have been (or may want to be) involved in dealing with cross-wiki vandalism, please read the discussion going on at Talk:Vandalism reports#Away with this page and chime in there, if desired. - dcljr (talk) 00:24, 11 June 2017 (UTC)

Say what page

Latest comment: 7 years ago 3 comments2 people in discussion
To add a new request, create a new section header at the bottom of the page (just above the categories) of the form:

Which page? Say "THIS page" or "the page concerned (NOT THIS PAGE)" Jidanni (talk) 14:35, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Of course it means this page. Stryn (talk) 14:56, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
That is nice to know, but it is not clear to users and could thus be made clearer. Thanks. Jidanni (talk) 15:07, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Instructions wording requires correction

Latest comment: 7 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Where the instructions To add a new request presently state: "create a new section header at the bottom of the page"

  • (just above the categories) of the form:

it should be reworded to state:

  • (just above See also)...

(emphasis added). This I gathered from having added a new request myself just now. Thank you. -- Deborahjay (talk) 10:29, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Done Special:Permalink/17826015. @Deborahjay: Thank you for the suggestion. Green Giant (talk) 12:04, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Reporting cross-wiki vandalism

Latest comment: 5 years ago 8 comments4 people in discussion

As my remark was archived without further comment or action, I bring up the issue here. The header mentions "reporting cross-wiki vandalism". Should it not instead refer users to SRG? --bdijkstra (talk) 13:34, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

No. This is where the vandalism is managed and removed xwiki, or pertaining to a specific wiki. So this enables fine-detail and wiki level control, and potentially some aspects of global abuse filter. Whereas SRG (the sledge-hammer) is for the locking users and blocking IP addresses at a global level, it doesn't particularly care about which wiki or fine-detail control. They are closely aligned, though not the same thing.  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:07, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
So I was at the proper venue and PiRSquared17 was wrong? --bdijkstra (talk) 20:40, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
No. Requests for accounts to be locked are handled at SRG. That should probably be clarified in the header. Vermont (talk) 20:56, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
As someone involved in the original discussion that resulted in the creation of "Steward requests/Miscellaneous", I'm pretty sure I know what its purpose is. :P I agree with clarifying the header. PiRSquared17 (talk) 21:03, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Three weeks ago I edited the header, but the changes are still not visible. How long does it normally take for a page to be marked for translation? --bdijkstra (talk) 10:20, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
If you change the original language page, it needs for a translation admin to mark the page for translation. I have just marked it now.  — billinghurst sDrewth 11:18, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Thanks. I know that a translation admin is needed for that, I was just wondering why it was taking so long. --bdijkstra (talk) 12:54, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

How to update callback url or delete a Oauth app?

Latest comment: 5 years ago 4 comments2 people in discussion

Dear Admin/tech

I need to update callback url or delete an oauth app, how to do so?

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/update/25965b9198a6f137ef6b145b41c2f759

Xinbenlv (talk) 23:08, 10 October 2019 (UTC)

@Xinbenlv: You control all what can be undertaken once you have created them. Do look at the links at Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration for information. You can look at the oauth logs and I can see that admins can hide those log entries, though I would say that more falls into the need to revdel, rather than being a deletion. We would not generally delete these without there being an exceptional reason.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:53, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: thank you for response. I think I might not have made my self clear. Here is my problem. When I register a new OauthComsumer, I COULD assign a "CallbackURL" picture. but when I try to update the CallbackURL, it doesn't allow me.picture Xinbenlv (talk) 23:49, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

JavaScript on Wikimedia wiki pages

Latest comment: 4 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Hello, is the Interface administrator permission required to add JavaScript to a subset of Wikimedia wiki pages? I do not need to edit site-wide JavaScript, but I have ideas that I am considering for a subset of pages on the Outreach wiki that would involve JavaScript. ↠Pine () 22:16, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Yes, it is.--Sakretsu (炸裂) 23:54, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Duplicated instructions in header

Latest comment: 4 years ago 2 comments2 people in discussion

Somehow the first four bullet points in Steward requests/Miscellaneous/Header/en have become duplicated (i.e., the items from "If the wiki does have active administrators..." through "For global lock/block requests..." show up twice), even though such duplication is not seen in Steward requests/Miscellaneous/Header. Someone who can fix that should do so. - dcljr (talk) 00:07, 17 January 2021 (UTC)

alteração de nome

Latest comment: 2 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Biellms369 (talk) 02:00, 16 September 2022 (UTC)

Open meeting invitation

Latest comment: 2 years ago 1 comment1 person in discussion

Hello, all. The mw:Editing team is starting a new project, mw:Edit check. They are particularly seeking the views of RecentChanges patrollers and other reviewers. One of the open questions is: When should the visual editor encourage people to add a citation?

The meeting will be this coming Friday, 3 March 2023. More information is available at mw:Editing team/Community Conversations#3 March 2023. I hope that many of you will be able to attend, but if you aren't, please consider leaving your advice to the team on the talk page. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:31, 24 February 2023 (UTC)

Cross-wiki spam Boushaki family

Latest comment: 1 year ago 6 comments4 people in discussion

Hi, I've been following a cross-wiki spam situation explained here, but it has been mostly ineffective because it reaches the deepest parts of the Wikimedia universe and in most small wikis, there is noone with enough leadership or there is really noone there.

Is there a way someone form meta could help in fighting this spam? With lots of messages, I have only been able to lower the interwiki count of the main article (there are a lot more) from 110 to 82 as you can see here. There must be a better way to do this ... Thanks in advance. Paucabot (talk) 10:43, 9 November 2023 (UTC)

@Paucabot There's no good solution other than deleting them. I've been looking at the small/GS wiki entries. —MdsShakil (talk) 12:31, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
Additionally, you may use TwinkleGlobal, and make requests at GSR for GS wikis. —MdsShakil (talk) 12:40, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
@MdsShakil: I've been posting the delete tag everywhere. The problem is, there is nobody responding nor doing anything. Do you recommend me asking for deletion at Global sysops/Requests? Paucabot (talk) 12:53, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
That's LTA Zouaoui16 [4]. @Hasley, Superpes15, and علاء: fyi as you locked some of the latest sockpuppets. Johannnes89 (talk) 13:02, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, yep, this is a bad issue, we currently have other 2-3 similar situation, and hard ways are probably needed at this point (such as rangeblocks and filters)! Btw this issue shows how a global CU and a global revert (or global tagging for deletion) would be useful imho! Superpes15 (talk) 15:09, 9 November 2023 (UTC)
