I'am a sysop on zh wikipedia(my home wiki),but I'd like to help with the wuu wikipedia/gan wikipedia,when i see some vandalism,I need this permissions. thanks--Nbfreeh (talk) 12:50, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

As stated in Global rollback you should be demonstrably active in cross-wiki countervandalism or anti-spam activities. If you wish to use the tool for the wikis mentioned you better ask for local sysop or local rollback. Gain more crosswiki experience, join the SWMT, and ask later. Thanks for helping but I will Oppose Oppose for now. —Ah3kal (talk) 15:31, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for applying, but at this time I don't think you have the cross-wiki countervandalism experience required for this. I'd recomment you join #cvn-sw connect , help reverting vandalism actively and reopen this request after a few months. You can use User:Snowolf/How to globally Twinkle. Best of luck! Global IP block exempt for AYST201

Status: Not done

I travel fairly frequently or often and whenever I do, I use a VPN whose IPs are blocked, but I don't vandal and I'm not comfortable about it. GIPBE would be very helpful for me during such times. Thanks you AYST201 (talk) 14:27, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Oppose Oppose Right away, I am having issue with you stating that you use a VPN, because it makes it that much harder to track you if you are doing something of ill intent. A correct request would state that you do not want to use a VPN, and you get blocked quite frequently. Furthermore, I blocked you last month on Outreach for showing up and throwing up an errant deletion tag on a user page, and then spent days getting you to promise on your talk page that you would abide by the rules of the site. I still strongly suspect that you vaguely related to Arifys based on the fact that you both edited that page, and the lack of a denial about this concerns me. You are also a frequent applicant on this page, and it seems like you are just going down the line for requesting rights. While you may be operating in good faith (and I suspect that you are), there are enough things at this time that concern me that make me oppose this request. Kevin Rutherford (talk) 22:54, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
@Ktr101: I new use vpn during the holiday, I didn't use vpn before. And only holiday I wan using vpn.Like the previous explanation, I was me, and I am not a user of another. It seems you too suspect or you are not happy with me. What to edit on the same page, a person is considered equal ?. I already said that I was and I was not related to any user. As Arifys.

AYST201 (talk) 06:20, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

You (most likely) have other accounts which are blocked on some projects. Please stick to one. I won't give you this flag right now, because it could allow you to conceal your use of multiple accounts and I don't think that's a good idea. Ajraddatz (talk) 06:24, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I am not unhappy with you, even if my recent actions indicated otherwise (I unblocked you, which says a lot). You were able to convince me that you were going to operate in good faith, but the VPN use and how you stated it is what concerns us. One way to justify needing it is to request it locally on multiple wikis when you encounter IP blocks, as that will give you a very strong platform to stand on, instead of pre-emptively asking for a global right. Global IP block exempt for DuncanHill

Status: Done

Just got caught in a global IP rangeblock made by User:Masti, I connect to the internet using the services of Three Mobile, a major mobile provider in the UK and my IP address is likely to change whenever I come online. I was left with not even the ability to edit my own talk page on my home wiki (English). If global rangeblocks like this are to be made then it is likely I will be caught in them again. Thanks, --DuncanHill (talk) 00:41, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Done. Please note that if you get caught up in local rangeblocks as well (which is possible with these mobile ranges), you'll need to request a local exemption as well through the usual processes on enwiki. Ajraddatz (talk) 06:27, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Requests for global rename permissions

Global rename for PhilKnight

Status: Done
I'm an active admin on the English language Wikipedia, where I help with unblock requests. I'm requesting global rename permission as to help users who are currently blocked and need a name change. Otherwise, we unblock them and direct them to a page on how to effect a user name change, which is often confusing. It would be easier for all concerned if the users were unblocked and renamed at the same time. I would only use this tool for rename requests on the English language Wikipedia. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by PhilKnight (talk)

  • Support Support - I don't think that the functionary role is very important to this permission request, but from a look at the talk page links here it seems like there is a valid use case. enwiki gets a large amount of users with unsuitable names and no crosswiki activity, seems like.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 09:03, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
  • Support Support, but you should be willing to use it on the global request queue also. Perhaps withdraw your pledge to use only on enwiki, since even this act will affect other wikis sometimes anyway. –xeno 09:21, 28 March 2016 (UTC)

  • Support Support for reasons given. I don't have a problem with Phil but I don't really see the need. The English Wikipedia rarely unblocks anyone and even rarer do they change their name after doing so because they would be equal to evading scrutiny. So I just can't see why that would need to be done for the reasons given. So unless they were wanting to help with global renames in the queue there isn't much need for the tool. Reguyla (talk) 19:42, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Collapse discussion
  • He is active in unblock requests, and a lot of those are based on usernames which violate local policy. He is able to rename the users to a better username as part of the unblock process, rather than sending them to another page this way. So, there is a legitimate need for the rights, though I agree that helping out more generally would be appreciated as well. Ajraddatz (talk) 19:45, 28 March 2016 (UTC)
Again, I am just not seeing it. According to his contrib history he has only edited Meta a couple dozen times since 2006. So it's not like he was leaving lists of work to be done here for global rename. Now that we have a global username system, changing it on one project should change it on all of them anyway. If it doesn't, then that should be fixed. So I still don't see a need. Reguyla (talk) 19:20, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
He's seeking permission to change names on enwiki but since the global rename system, that permission must be obtained here (rather than w:WP:RFB. So your opposition doesn't make much sense. –xeno 22:10, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
I changed my vote to support because one oppose is meaningless anyway. He's clearly going to pass but just to clarify, now that the global rename has taken effect, anytime any account on a project is renamed, that rename should, via bot or some other means, automatically change that account name on all the corresponding projects. That makes this request silly, because it should already be in place. As the logic is now, if an admin renames an account on any project and doesn't have global rename, then it basically just creates a mess out of the accounts cross project. We shouldn't be creating messes IMO. Reguyla (talk) 00:04, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
That's precisely how it works. The global rename facility renames every attached account. So while Phil may intend to only action requests that originate from enwiki, his renames will inevitably change the global account itself and any and all of its attachments. Hope that explains things, thanks for revisiting your position. –xeno 00:35, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
I think your missing my point. Currently when someone renames an account on ENWP or any other wiki, it only changes on that wiki right? Because if it didn't work that way, then he wouldn't need this right. So then someone else has to do a global rename to change that account on all the other wiki's the local renamer could change or it creates a mismatch between that account/wiki and all the other Wiki's. I also know a lot of those aren't getting reported and changed and I can see that just by looking at the ones that Phil renamed. So, this isn't a need for Phil to have global rename rights, this is a case of the system and account rename process needing to change so when an account is renamed on one wiki it changes it globally to prevent making a mess. That means all account renamers now require global rename rights by default as a result of the global account process change. So we shouldn't even need to grant this, because it should have been done as a process change based on the global account process change. Reguyla (talk) 14:12, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Reguyla Actually, there is just one kind of account rename nowadays, which acts globally. PhilKnight is applying for the permission needed to rename accounts globally.Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 15:22, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
Roger that, thank you for the clarification. I am going to cap off this discussion so it's not distracting the discussion. Reguyla (talk) 17:32, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

Global rename for Defender

Hello everyone. I'm very active and would like to help handling requests from portuguese projects (e.g. pt:Wikipédia:Renomeação_de_conta, pt:wikt:Wikcionário:Mudança do nome de usuário) and also requests from Special:GlobalRenameQueue. Thank you for considering and don't hesitate to ask questions. Defender (talk) 16:55, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Oppose Unfortunately, I seem to be unable to find significant participation concerning rename processes, at the very least nothing which indicates high activity as claimed in the request. We have many active global renamers at the moment so I would like to see more experience and/or engagement in the processes before supporting. Regards, --Vogone (talk) 20:43, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
I wasn't much encouraged until Alexmar983 suggested me to apply, which made me think I had a chance. In fact I have no expressive participation in this specific area, but at lest here on Meta and on ptwiktionary I really became very active since February, but I understand if it isn't enough. In this case, this request can be disregarded. Defender (talk) 21:32, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
  • (Edit conflict.) Oppose You are not even active on ptwiki and doubting your activity level here and here yourself with regard to Portuguese projects. --MF-W 21:34, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm no longer interested. I wish to thank both of you for the feedback. Best regards, Defender (talk) 22:03, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Bit late, but sorry you withdrew after the initial comments. Honestly, I'm not too concerned with more global-renamers, particularly in language areas without great coverage. Global editinterface for ANBI

Status: Not done

Hi! I'd like to re-request this right. I joined the Pashto wikipedia in 2005. I started first with the interface translation of Mediawiki in Pashto language on the local level, then I started at Betawiki.net which was renamed to translatewiki.net later. I am one of the most active translator in ([1]). There after I started other projects translation and you can find all my record at translatewiki.net. I have also rigorously translated the interface messages applied for pashto wikipedia's javascript and css. Likewise the translation of mediawiki message boxes, highlights and am regularly getting messages regarding new translations needed. For your information I am placing the link of the translatewiki.net contributions that I have made so far here. You can also find other contributions done by me here at wikimedia. I have recently been granted the temporary adminship at Pashto wikipedia. I need these permissions to test the translated strings and in order to get the best out of the translation process I have to test them regularly and check if the translated term/terms represent what they are meant to be. --ANBI (talk) 15:32, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Coren

Status: Done

Hey there. While working on lots of little things in and around wikimedia config and global tools, I often find myself in positions where I should be able to make tweaks to bits of interfaces or edit templatedata as we deploy visualeditor or new ve plugins or i18n messages living in the mediawiki namespace.

That's always done at the behest and with the collaboration of the local communities, but it's a bit silly to have them go through the process to give me admin rights that I will use for a few days and then discard (and for which I only need a subset in the first place).

I've been admin on a couple projects for many years, and was a Foundation staffer in operations for three of those; I know how to not break things (and how to fix them when I do make an error). :-) — Coren (talk) / (en-wiki) 13:48, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

On what kind of wikis do you intend to make use of this permission and under which conditions? --Vogone (talk) 14:10, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Well, the immediate case is the French wikisource; in all cases, the permission would be used when the community requested deployment of a tool or extension (as is the case here) and some technical edits are necessary to make it work. — Coren (talk) / (en-wiki) 14:14, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Can you provide a example, please? Thank you. --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:15, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
In this particular case, there are a half dozen protected templates that need templatedata (like this), and about two dozen interface messages of the proofreadpage-visualeditor-... pattern. The i18n eventually will be made part of deployed extension but as the code is in beta and in quite a bit of flux, it will probably change too often in the next couple weeks for the deployment train to be useful. This is all part of work on phab:T48580. — Coren (talk) / (en-wiki) 14:31, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
(Edit conflict.)Alright, this answers my question. In my opinion the request is valid and thus I support. --Vogone (talk) 14:16, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Nirmos

Status: Not done

Hi. I would like to be a global interface editor to update old JavaScript. Nirmos (talk) 13:00, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Question. What is your experience with js editing? Ruslik (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2016 (UTC)
    • Ruslik0: At Swedish Wikipedia I have made a lot of gadgets as well as scripts for individual users. The substitutions that need to be done on all projects I've already made on Swedish Wiktionary, Swedish Wikibooks, Swedish Wikiquote, Swedish Wikinews and Wikimedia Sweden. Nirmos (talk) 20:38, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

This is urgent. Many projects will be in script error later this month if no one does anything. I would like to fix as many projects as I can before that happens. Nirmos (talk) 17:12, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

First of all, these requests are typically open for 5 days. If there are urgent problems that need fixing, post a request on SRM. I also don't understand what you plan on doing - can you provide more specific details of what old JS you want to update, and where? Ajraddatz (talk) 17:13, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
Ajraddatz: The technical details are that all global variables (except mw) will be removed. You can read more here:
This needs to be done on all projects. Nirmos (talk) 17:21, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
I guess that all other interface editors are aware of this too, right? —Marco Aurelio 17:55, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

This is not a joke. I need to start working now to minimize the destruction when this hits. Nirmos (talk) 17:46, 14 April 2016 (UTC)

This right isn't a joke either. As you can understand, we can't approve this without community consensus and favourable comments. Thanks for your understanding. —Marco Aurelio 18:19, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Support Support from myself. The requestee seems to be well-intentioned and competent enough to make the changes. If this is such a large problem though, there should probably be coordination with other volunteers and perhaps help from the WMF. Ajraddatz (talk) 18:23, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Are you aware it is discouraged to make use of this permission without asking the local communities in case they are not small? --Vogone (talk) 23:19, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose Unconvinced that the user is willing to tread carefully and work cooperatively with local communities, given the "urgent" need to "minimize the destruction". Usually when I've seen this sort of rationale, this "reason" is used to stonewall the local community into submission. --Rs chen 7754 07:31, 15 April 2016 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose I'm not convinced that the user has enough JS experience, nor am I convinced that (as Rschen7754 says right above me) that the user will be careful enough with this right especially in the communities that dislike outsiders mucking around with their stuff. If the need is so pressing, as Nirmos claims it is, certainly there are stewards and/or others who have a proven track record with this right that can make the needed fixes.
