Global rollback for Stryn

Status: Done

I'm quite active in Small Wiki Monitoring Team. I've been an admin on fi-wiki since 2011 and on Wikidata since 2012. I've been a member of SWMT since January 2013 (though I did this work also before I knew that it existed), and I'm trying to be there when I have some spare time. Being a global rollbacker would save my time because only one click is needed to restore latest good version. Regards, --Stryn (talk) 19:02, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Let me correct that Vogone: The user has been reverting vandalism and requested speedy deletion of test/spam pages. --Golden burg 111 16:26, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Global sysop for Great Brightstar

Status: Not done

Hello, I am Chinese Wikipedia user "Great Brightstar", for a long time, I found some Chinese dialect Wikipedias do not have some active administrators to admin, there are some wikipedias complaind that some Chinese dialect Wikipedia lack the administrator to help them admin Wikipedia [especially in Chinese (Ming Dong) users] in China's social networking site(s), I am also saddened by lack the permission to help them to solve the problem. And I found Chinese Wiktionary also lack active administrator(s) to manage it, there are some Chinese advertising agent press some ads and no one to fix bugs in Chinese Wiktionary. So I want to apply for global administrator for Chinese projecs.--Great Brightstar (talk) 12:38, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

closed as not done. Global admin permissions are not given for the tasks that you wish to undertake. You would be looking to apply at respective wiki for administration rights. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Billinghurst (talk)
What should I do? --Great Brightstar (talk) 14:39, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
You have to request adminship locally on the wikis and if there is consensus, file requests at SRP. --Glaisher [talk] 15:20, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much. --Great Brightstar (talk) 16:22, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Global IP block exempt for Huangjinghai

Status: Not done

I live in a country where the internet is censored, and many entries can not be accessed without proxies. Even the https access is often blocked during the past several months. I currently have more than 7000 edits and IP block exemption on Chinese wp. I placed a request here several months before, but Mr. Billinghurst opposed it because he had some specific concerns and he thought those were noted on the steward's wiki. I failed to respond to his distrust. But, I wanted, and still want to participate more in other wikimedia projects. That's why I place the request here again, I hope this does not inconvenience anybody in any way. Thanks, and best regards. --Huangjinghai (talk) 02:16, 4 December 2013 (UTC)

Not done Not granting global IP exemption for this account. Any IP exemption that you wish to have should only be granted at local wikis by local administrators. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:11, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Although I have IPBE on Chinese Wikipedia, I did not use it when not needed because when proxies are used the local sites are loaded slower and sometimes it's not very convenient. There were already some Chinese wikipedians granted global IP exemption, who have much less contributions than I have, but they did not face the same question billinghurst asked to me. I did not answer his question last time because he didn't explain what his specific concerns are, so I didn't know how to answer it.
I know I must be too noisy, but I think I was treated with discrimination. Although the smaller wikis have some administrators, they are not really active. I discovered several advertisement articles on Chinese Wiktionary, which were not dealt with by any administrator for more than one month, until I left a comment about this phenomenon on Chinese Wikipedia. In those wikis not only requests for IPBE, but any request will be overlooked. I know if I can not edit Wiktionaries or Wikiquotes or Wikivoyages will not cause great loss to the wiki projects, it doesn't even matter. But What a pity!--Huangjinghai (talk) 06:36, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Global editinterface for Ricordisamoa

The following request is closed. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Status: Not done

I am a sysop on Wikidata, where I have been mantaining several gadgets for months. I am fairly good at JavaScript, CSS, template syntax and Lua. I think I could help wikis with few 'technically competent' administrators - mainly the Italian versions of Wikivoyage and Wikisource, but also Wiktionary, Wikiquote, etc., and other language versions as well. I read the (proposed) policy, and of course I will not do any controversial edit, but will ask the community before, except in case of very high security issues.

Moreover, I'm a filemover on Commons, and with this right I could replace renamed files in protected pages too. --Ricordi samoa 15:49, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

  • Oppose. It's not clear to me what changes would be done, whether globally at all and why admins in the few projects you mention couldn't simply be advised by you how to edit css/js pages in the desired way. Also I think using this for changing renamed files is out of scope. --MF-W 16:52, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
  • I agree with MF-W here. Especially the absence of any policy for this right makes it a big deal (lacking legitimacy) and unless an accurate rationale is provided this flag shouldn't be assigned. Vogone talk 17:22, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose The issues with his failing to remove his flooder right against policy numerous times on Wikidata [1] do not inspire confidence in me for this right. --Rs chen 7754 18:56, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
So, because he forgot to remove a flag from his account on two (?) occasions, he can't be trusted with any unrelated tools? Seems a little unrelated to me, especially since there is no global flooder flag or relation between that and GEI. Ajraddatz (Talk) 19:08, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
Well, it shows that he wasn't careful, in my opinion, especially after the first time. --Rs chen 7754 19:12, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
The scope of the GEI is to edit the mediawiki pages - he's done that quite a bit on Wikidata. If he was careless in that area, there would probably be lots of examples of that as well. Ajraddatz (Talk) 19:28, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
@Rschen7754: since then, I set up my mass-deletion script to automatically remove the flood flag when finished. --Ricordi samoa 19:16, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose, since the request has no clear rational for the use of the tools. I infer you would help fix gadgets? If a more clear rational could be provided I'll reconsider. Ajraddatz (Talk) 19:08, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
  • Oppose Oppose per above. Wikidata adminship is not a qualification for this right.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:47, 12 December 2013 (UTC)

Thank you all for the quick replies. I do not share Rschen7754's objection, nor Jasper Deng's. However, MF-Warburg, Vogone and Ajraddatz remind that our provisional policy requires a stricter rationale than mine. And since I planned to use the right for almost every kind of non-controversial edit the communities request - and no local administrator is able to perform flawlessly in short time - I am near to withdrawing. But I would rather wait for someone other's opinion. --Ricordi samoa 05:37, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

I would think that if you offered your services to these communities, either language specific, or to one of the broader sister projects, eg. Wikisource, and they accepted your offer, that would constitute a need, though there would be the obvious need to keep yourself within your set boundaries. — billinghurst sDrewth 11:26, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ricordisamoa (talkcontribs) LlamaAl (talk) 18:26, 13 December 2013 (UTC).
@Ricordisamoa: if it is just the one community, I would think that it would be preferable to grant you temporary administration rights. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:48, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: but I also made edits requests on other projects as well (itwiki, enwiki, itwikivoyage, commonswiki). JavaScript, Lua, CSS and template syntax are the same everywhere. I can (and would like to) help with them everywhere, while I couldn't be on service on itwikisource for deletions, protections, etc. --Ricordi samoa 14:32, 19 December 2013 (UTC)

Not done this time, due to the concerns raised above such as not having tasks specified in this request. No further development of the discussion for around two weeks. --Bencmq (talk) 03:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Global exemption to CAPTCHA for Sven Manguard

Status: Done

I am a Commons admin, and I often remove images from articles right before or right after I delete the images. I know that there is a bot that (supposedly) does this, but I've often found that new users tend to break things when adding images, and doing it manually allows me to fix issues as I go. This is a good example of what I'm taking about; the user added in a new image, and in the process broke the infobox. When I removed the image, I fixed the infobox. Happy happy. Except that it made me do a Captcha. I find myself doing a rather large number of Captchas in this line of work, and am not particularly good at them, so I'd love to be able to skip over them. Considering the nature of this work, while I'll eventually hit autoconfirmed on some of the larger projects, I'm unlikely to hit it on many of them. I've been told that there's no written set of requirements for this type of right, but it has been given out before, and I think this is a valid use for it. Sven Manguard (talk) 03:49, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Done, globally trusted user; harmless userright for someone like Sven. QuiteUnusual (talk) 08:19, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! Sven Manguard (talk) 19:27, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
@Sven Manguard: if you are getting captures, it sounds like your global account is not registering and allowing smooth transition between wikis. Have you considered logging a bugzilla request. You should not have to be asked repetitively for captcha requests. — billinghurst sDrewth 10:51, 19 December 2013 (UTC)
