PRESENTATION

General Information

Wikimedia Venezuela is, a Venezuelan non-profit organization, recognized as a chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, with the purpose of disseminating and promoting the development and dissemination of free content and knowledge.

The Asociación Civil Wikimedia Venezuela, established in the city of Caracas, consists of the Assembly and Board Members. The Assembly's members comprise all full and student members. The Board is the main institutional authority in our association, and has sufficient power to direct the activities of the chapter. The bylaws of the Association may be viewed on the website of Wikimedia Venezuela.


ACTIVITIES

Objectives

In the goals of Wikipedia Venezuela you can find:

  • Promotion of the projects of Wikimedia so that more people join or use them (professors, scientists, university members, students, libraries, etc.)
  • Study and negotiate collaborations, on a moral or financial base, to support the projects of Wikimedia.
  • Helping outside organizations use Wikimedia content, possibly for their own benefit (eg. help publishers of local history Wikireaders, of a Wikipedia DVD in a given language)
  • Organise initiatives and local and national events (by ej. Participating in commercial demonstrations, organising meetings of Wikipedia, organising conferences, etc.).
  • To deal with the press in any given country. To give the press someone to talk to in their own language and culture.
  • Enabling (where applicable) tax-deductible donations in the country they are based in.
  • Promotion of the Free Content and the Wiki culture in their own territories.
