Bad translations

CNBanner:Wikimania 2016-text2/tokipona, Template:StrategyButton/tokipona and the pages created by Special:Contributions/200.8.23.129. The ones which don't look like nonsense are in the wrong language. - Nikki (talk) 15:23, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Maybe someone could delete these ones at the same time Special:Contributions/101.9.122.118 MarcGarver (talk) 15:40, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Meta-Wiki doesn't allow fair use, hence unless such logos can be re-licensed free, we don't have any good reasons for serving them. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:23, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

History is a good reason. Anthere (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 20:19, 7 January 2025 .
@Anthere: But there are still risks that some of them are derivated from 3rd party works, and their author may suggest them as copyvio of their works. Anyway, I contacted uploaders of these Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:39, 7 January 2025 (UTC)
Sure. 20-22 years later... poor quality artworks... low res... zero financial impact foreseeable... oh well... Anthere (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:24, 8 January 2025 .
Non-free logo's could be used, which would be used with permission of the organization, not relying on fair-use. As such the rejection of fair-use doesn't relate to this. — xaosflux Talk 00:21, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
These sort of things are certainly odd edge cases, my point is that removing the way to identify something being such an odd exception, or even being able to find violations via such a tagging are useful. — xaosflux Talk 00:26, 8 January 2025 (UTC)
Comment: the logos could possibly be covered by GFDL, see {{GFDL-presumed}}. Janhrach (talk) 10:53, 12 January 2025 (UTC)
@Janhrach This tag is also having logical problem as per w:Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Template:GFDL-presumed, any visit to the deleted template will show a link to this discussion, uploading an image to Wikimedia wikis don't automatically make it GFDL, it pretty much goes against our current practices, someone created original version of this template and category way back in 2005, and great work to those that did the work to resolve the images, and eventually, no need to hang on to it. For several reasons, this tag against WMF licensing policy either. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 07:04, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
  • Keep Keep - If a new project is proposed and it needs a logo, the logo cannot be freely licensed, and the copyright in the logo has to be reserved for a future grant to the WMF. That situation is explained by this template. These situations are rare but do occur. The fair use doctrine simply has no relevance to such situations. arcticocean しかく 11:08, 16 January 2025 (UTC)
@Arcticocean Why it can't be free licensed? Also if contents, includes its logo, can't be do so, then why they benefit for a part of Wikimedia projects? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 15:10, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Kept No consensus to delete. AramilFeraxa (Talk) 17:20, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Meta:CP

Discussion open until at least 19 January 2025 (UTC)

This is a shortcut to CopyPatrol, however CP is a shortcut to Child protection. So if used as an interwiki link as a shortcut you must use [[meta:meta:CP]] to get to CopyPatrol, and most users (like I did) will likely mistakenly put [[meta:CP]]. I cannot think of a shortcut other than simply COPYPATROL which interwiki links can link as meta:COPYPATROL. But CopyPatrol seems simple enough too. --Waddie96 (talk) 19:13, 11 January 2025 (UTC)

Maybe reset redirect to mainspace CP and re-write that as a {{dab}}? Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:16, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

List of redundant files

Extended content

All these files appeared in portals like Www.wikiquote.org template, which are now deprecated. As such they are no longer needed and are duplicates of Commons files. Hence they can be deleted. —Matrix (user page (@ commons) - talk?) 19:16, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

Would like to add deletion notices but they're all protected. —Matrix (user page (@ commons) - talk?) 19:39, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
I think it's fine to skip that part. Ping to User:Mxn who was heavily involved with this originally. — xaosflux Talk 19:52, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
Mxn has been less active lately. I think it's okay to delete the redundant files. Phương Linh (thảo luận) 11:19, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
@Xaosflux: could you please proceed? —Matrix (user page (@ commons) - talk?) 19:02, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

User:Toniosean/global.js

User:Toniosean/global.js looks like a Wikipedia page. So this page does not contain any .js code. Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 16:29, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Wikimedia Homeschooling

Wikimedia Homeschooling looks like a hoax. Ternera (talk) 03:54, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

Perhaps it might be a good candidate for speedy deletion, and I support the immediate deletion of that page. Codename Noreste (talk) 04:45, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

Deleted Speedily deleted as a hoax. shb (tc) 05:06, 27 February 2025 (UTC)

User:Another Wiki User the 3rd/How to tell if someone should get globally banned

Discussion open until at least 20 February 2025 (UTC)

Potentially out of scope, inaccurate, also a bit insensitive. I see little reason for this page to be here as we have Global bans, etc. A a s i m 18:40, 12 February 2025 (UTC)

I moved it to "Reference for Voting for Global Bans". Also, you can help me to fix the "inaccurate" part. Another Wiki User the 3rd (talk) 19:03, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
I can make it a section on my user page, too. Another Wiki User the 3rd (talk) 19:51, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
That sounds w:WP:GAMEy. I have dealt with a user who after I successful requested deletion of a template went to repost that template on their user page. You should take a look at deletion policy and make arguments based on that. Please also see Meta:NOT. A a s i m 21:51, 12 February 2025 (UTC)
What SHOULD I call it then? Another Wiki User the 3rd (talk) 19:29, 13 February 2025 (UTC)
I don't see anything besides CSD. Another Wiki User the 3rd (talk) 19:30, 18 February 2025 (UTC)

Kept It has been around 3 weeks and no compelling arguments have been made to delete, nor is there consensus. It doesn't really meet G7 either. As such, I'm closing as kept for now. //shb (tc) 09:34, 3 March 2025 (UTC)
