Foutre in French

Hello Billinghurst,
First of all, I wish you a happy new year. I come back to you since my first proposal. Effectively, the use of "foutre" (strong language) has since increased faster compared to the period 2009-2019. According to your request, the administrators of frWP voted in favor of the global addition unanimously. The final RegEx is only valid for new accounts (<newaccountonly>): .*f[\x{ff10}OՕOo༠o0°]+utr(e(?!(in|l|n|yn)\b)|al).*. Cordially. —Eihel (talk) 15:10, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

@Eihel: Thanks for the detailed proposal and regex; Done per addition , noting of course that there is no visible log of any consequences. For anyone who comes later to understand and undertake a review, please propose any regex change initially at at w:fr:Discussion MediaWiki:Titleblacklist with the reference m:special:permalink/20981933  — billinghurst sDrewth 21:00, 18 January 2021 (UTC)

I re-propose (see also: archived proposal) those change:

  1. For w:ja:LTA:ASPE, adding ^(?=.*a)(?=.*s)(?=.*p)(?=.*e.*e)(?=.*r.*r)(?=.*g).{8}$[1] (Test), ^(?=.*ア)(?=.*ス)(?=.*ペ)(?=.*ル)(?=.*ガ)(?=.*ー).{6}$[1] (Test), .*Asperger.*, and .*アスペ.*[2] .
  2. For w:ja:LTA:NDBTK, adding .*タヒね.*[3] .
  3. For w:ja:LTA:IKE, changing .*(知的?障害?|池沼).* to .*(知的?障害?|池 ?沼).*.

restricting Japanese sexual word

I propose below:

  1. Changing .*[おオ][ちまチマ][んンソ].* to .*[おオ] ?[ちまチマ] ?[んンソ].*

For example, name hidden  (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs  • xwiki-date  (alt ) • gblock  • ST  • lwcheckuser ), and name hidden  (talk • contribs • block • xwiki-contribs  • xwiki-date  (alt ) • gblock  • ST  • lwcheckuser ). --Semi-Brace (talk) 14:32, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Offensive word

Per gUser search result, most of the usernames that contain "肏" are offensive username. Some of the accounts were not just created in zhwiki and also in jawiki etc. Also "" this word means fuck in Chinese. Thus I would like to request blacklisting account creation that contains "肏" this word. Thank you. --SCP -20 00 05:19, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

On hold @SCP-2000: Please raise the issue as an RFC on zhwiki at the word(s) to be disallowed and the conditions to be applied, achieve a consensus and get administrators to get back to us. I am never comfortable making any such change without a clear consensus of the community most impacted and in direct consultation with the administrators of the language wiki(s).  — billinghurst sDrewth 08:35, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

"online betting" for autoconfirmed

I would like to propose that we blacklist article creating for pages with a title including "online betting" for any account that is not autoconfirmed. While it will not be perfect in stopping the spambots—as we know that some do get autoconfirmed—it will put a dent in some of their operations.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:28, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Offensive Chinese Chracters

@痛心疾首: I am presuming that this request is for <newaccount> only. I wouldn't feel comfortable adding it to totally prohibits its use in all titles.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:32, 5 May 2021 (UTC)
Yes, per RfC, I mean for new account only. --痛心疾首 (talk) 03:00, 6 May 2021 (UTC)

Clarity please

Hi there. This isn't a proposed addition or removal but can anyone please explain why the word "autistic" is on the title blacklist? Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 21:41, 19 May 2021 (UTC)

@MarcoAurelio: Pinging the person who added it onto the blacklist, I saw that you added "autistic" onto the title blacklist here and I'm very interested to know why you did that because it's not a bad word and I don't see any reason to why it should be on there. I'm not proposing that it should be removed but I'm just asking why it's on there. Thanks. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:31, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
On the Title blacklist log, it says that it's an abusive username. Actually, the word "autistic" is not at all abusive, it's the word that is used to refer to a person who has autism. Pkbwcgs (talk) 17:34, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Hello @Pkbwcgs. I agree that the word is not abusive, but sadly it was used in the past to create abusive usernames (only new account creations bearing that word are being prevented). It's been some time since it got added so maybe we can try removing it and see if it becomes an issue again. Best regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 17:46, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
@Pkbwcgs: Like lots of attack names, the LTAs will pick an admin or other prominent user, and then throw whatever insults they can in usernames. This is blocked for being used abusively and insultingly, rather than as an abusive name.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:01, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Mustafa Tunahan Bodur

Pages with this name are opened especially on trwiki, enwiki (on draft namespace), eswiki, dewiki, afwiki, simplewiki etc. global search and deleted if necessary. Also, as far as I see recently, the pages with this name are opened on medium and small wikis. I deleted them on small wikis or marked them for speedy deletion on other wikis. But the users continue to open it persistently. Can you add it to the blacklist to avoid this cross-wiki spam situation? Regards. --Uncitoyen talk 11:11, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

@Uncitoyen: Adding vanity article names to title blacklist is not that effective as they will just do their variations which requires more vigilance (javad Ramzeani being our usual problem). We can go there in the end, though find that other means are typically better, eg. just deletion, local protection, abuse filters, ip blocks. I find threats quite useful, telling them that we will be assigning them into a personal blacklist of hell. I have put something into the global "vanity" abusefilter and we should review.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
Oh, and apart from article name, do they have a url they like to push? Blacklisting that is effective. Otherwise this is like spray paint vandalism, clean it away quickly.  — billinghurst sDrewth 14:12, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks @Billinghurst:, let's see the effect of the global abusefilter. I can see few url that they are added persistently. One is the url of his social media account, other two urls are websites that share news about him [1] [2] I can't accept these as a reliable source for edit/create the page (if I edit), but there are many articles where the second url is used. Since I don't review these articles in detail, I have no idea for add it to the effective tools. --Uncitoyen talk 14:59, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
@Uncitoyen: I have set COIBot to monitor those domains. If you use IRC and add any yourself to be monitored please add the phrase "Mustafa Tunahan Bodur" to the reason. Makes searching easier.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:05, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Nowadays, I'm not using IRC due to the latest situations. --Uncitoyen talk 10:19, 28 May 2021 (UTC)

U+3164 (Hangul Filler)

Some LTA have registered user names with this character trying to impersonate others (for example, this one). This should be disallowed in user names. Other similar characters include:

  • U+FFA0 ᅠ HALFWIDTH HANGUL FILLER
  • U+115F ᅟ HANGUL CHOSEONG FILLER
  • U+1160 ᅠ HANGUL JUNGSEONG FILLER

--GZWDer (talk) 15:26, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

@GZWDer: If it is an anti-spoof issue, then it is better that a phabricator ticket be created for mw:extension:AntiSpoof as that will flow through to all the places that anti-spoof is operational, rather than fussing over a legitimate character which in itself is not incorrect.  — billinghurst sDrewth 01:50, 7 June 2021 (UTC)

A problem on the English Wikipedia

Hi, I’m HelenDegenerate, a user from the English Wikipedia. I’m here to request a username to be added to the blacklist. Recently, editors (including me) have been bogged down with vandalism accounts entitled "I can make my t******** go up and down". Some of them may have been the same person, some may not. I’m proposing that we add the phrase "up and down" to the blacklist, so that any of those weird accounts will automatically be reported by a bot. It’s very tiresome, having to revert the damaging edits and then have to report it to UAA. Adding "up and down" to the blacklist would save us a lot of time— especially our poor admins who have to block all the accounts. Here are some examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/Testis_going_up_and_down https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&logid=116870082 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/The_testis_on_the_bus_go_up_and_down Thanks, Helen — The preceding unsigned comment was added by HelenDegenerate (talk) 19:19, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Unfortunately blacklisting this will just make their usrenames less obvious imo. Praxidicae (talk) 19:20, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@Praxidicae:, I’m not exactly sure what you mean. Could you explain for me? — The preceding unsigned comment was added by HelenDegenerate (talk) 19:21, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
@HelenDegenerate: There are no logs for title blacklist, so essentially it will stop the creation based on that string. If you are wanting to track, then you would be best to build an abuse filter, and have it flag on account creation on the wiki. If you need a hand over there, then plese ping me, I have the rights to do so. Note that the typical response from an LTA to a title blacklist block is to change the variation of the username, rather than to change their behaviour. Because the title blacklist just stops the action and tells the user, and that there are no logs, then the user will just keep trying variations with impunity of no detection until they get through the restriction.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:58, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
He's been a nuisance on en.wikivoyage as well. Usually, it's best to block him on sight. SHB2000 (talk | contibs | en.wikivoyage | w:User:SHB2000) 13:32, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Juris

There's a regular x-wiki vandal who's usernames always usually have the string "Juris" in the username. While I've reverted some of his x-wiki spam, wouldn't it just be easier if we prevented username creation with this string. I've managed to drive him away on na.wikipedia by setting an edit filter, but I'm not an admin on all the wiki's where all Juris vandalises. Also, all of his edit summaries usually have the summary "scobedos". Reverting this guy's work is sometimes tiresome, and I've basically given up after he's left na.wikipedia. So can we please blacklist this username? SHB2000 (talk | contibs | en.wikivoyage | w:User:SHB2000) 12:32, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

No, for a couple of reasons. It is going to cut out so many productive user names that are reasonably using that part of the string. Plus it is typically ineffective as Juris one minute and Jursi the next, using IP OPs not long after and bounce around. It needs to be other means that control the dufus.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:38, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

Ali Mahmoud Al Suleiman

Can someone add Ali Mahmoud Al Suleiman or Ali Al-Suleiman to the filter? It is a crosswiki-spam that is being constantly recreated, including on dewiki, eswiki and svwiki. EPIC (talk) 06:01, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

@EPIC: These wikis all have local title blacklists and it is best managed locally if it is a handful of wikis, especially if it ever needs removal or adjustment, plant a request at the respective "mediawiki talk:title-blacklist". Just throwing into blacklist without understanding consequences is problematic. We have an abuse filter that looks at vanity spam, and I will add it to that, however, it won't see the abuse at the big wikis.  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:29, 28 June 2021 (UTC)  — billinghurst sDrewth 07:29, 28 June 2021 (UTC)
OK, if that's the case, we can let it be as it is and add it to the local blacklists if it is recreated. EPIC (talk) 08:10, 28 June 2021 (UTC)

.*69.*

Comment Comment That is really a concern? Trolls are trolls, don't feed them; block them or ignore them and move on.  — billinghurst sDrewth 05:23, 24 August 2021 (UTC)
The point is a username that contains 69 is more likely to vandalize than a username than a user who chooses something else. Even when a user acts in good faith, the connotation associated with 69 is inappropriate for Wikimedia. A a s i m 19:29, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
A listing will not prevent any vandalism for someone intent on vandalising, they will either edit as an IP address, or choose another username to vandalise. That is not a suitable reason for me to impose a global blacklisting on request. For me to act I would expect to see a broad consensus for the measure that those two numbers are problematic.  — billinghurst sDrewth 22:06, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
Then it makes identifying such accounts easier while not preventing legitimate usages. It would need to be more problematic, and more explicitly unproductive, than the number 69 to warrant a blacklist entry, in my view. Vermont (talk) 22:22, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

Declined It doesn't stop abuse, it just stops that phrase part of a username, and anyone who legitimately needs that as part of a phrase.  — billinghurst sDrewth 03:52, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Is this a systemic issue? Long happening? Broadly happening? Not managed by other means, eg. checkuser IP blocks? It would be very simple to step around for any vandal, so I wonder at its usefulness.  — billinghurst sDrewth 20:06, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

I’m not sure how helpful this addition would be. Are there issues with accounts being registered with usernames including the above? Vermont (talk) 03:48, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
White power, the KKK and other hate symbols (in words) and inclusive terms (e.g. black lives matter) it could be LTA. --ArtofGoldenGoose (talk) 04:27, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
I would prefer to see a recommendation come from the enWP administrators that there is a problem and there needs to be a solution. I cannot see any reason that we would block "trump" as a regex, that is simply too exclusionary.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:42, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
@Billinghurst: It is part of Donald Trump's name also would be blacklisted, any hateful words such as "KKK, kike, white power" and other terms are related to white supremacy. Also black/blue/white/all lives matter would be blacklisted as well. --ArtofGoldenGoose (talk) 13:24, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
I understand all of that, this is not my first time around the track. Please address it to w:en:WP:ANI and seek a consensus for the additions.  — billinghurst sDrewth 15:17, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
