Latest comment: 9 years ago by Gutza in topic Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding
Due to persistent vandalism and disruption on this page, this page is currently semi-protected indefinitely. Globally blocked or locked users should appeal to stewards@wikimedia.org or UTRS.
If your account was locked with the reason "Compromised account", please contact ca@wikimedia.org.
This page hosts requests for global (un)blocks, (un)locks and hidings.

If you are here because you have been affected by a global block, please see Global blocks/FAQ for more information about global block and routes to appeal.

Note: (un)blocks apply to IP addresses or accounts; and (un)locks apply to global accounts.

Requests for global (un)block

Latest comment: 9 years ago 16 comments11 people in discussion
Please be sure to follow the instructions below:
Your request might be rejected if you don't follow the instructions.
Please also review Global blocking .
Global blocks don't affect Meta-Wiki, so if your IP address or account is blocked, you can still appeal here. IP addresses or accounts that cause disruption on Meta should be reported at Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat instead of here so that they can be blocked locally.
Please describe the kind of cross wiki abusive activity you see from the IP or account. Saying an IP or account is a long term abuser is not helpful, but saying "IP vandalizes at ban.wikipedia, no.wikipedia and vi.wikipedia" is. This is especially important for range blocks. If you do not provide enough details, your request might be declined.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting, make sure that:

  1. You know the IP address(es) or accounts you wish to have globally blocked or unblocked.
  2. For blocks, the global blocking criteria are met.
  3. For unblocks, your request addresses the original reason for blocking the IP or account, if any.

To make a request for the address(es) or account(s) to be blocked or unblocked

Copy the template below to the bottom of this section and explain why the address(es) or account(s) should be blocked/unblocked.
=== Global block/unblock for [[Special:Contributions/Some IP address or account|Some IP address or account]] ===
{{Status}} <!-- Do not remove this template -->
* {{Luxotool|IP address/username}}
Description, evidence, diffs, etc. --~~~~
When requesting that your IP be unblocked, note that stewards need to know your IP address to even consider a request.
To find your IP, please visit https://www.whatismyip.com/
You are not required to disclose your IP in public - you may make requests privately to any steward on IRC or by email at: stewards@wikimedia.org

Global unblock for 104.131.93.125

Status: Done

My IP address was blocked by Vituzzu, reason given as: Open proxy: + abuse from 104.131.139.20. I have not abused any wiki site from my account or from this IP. If it is easier, just unblocking my Natalyakautz account would be fine as well. Thanks. --Natalyakautz (talk) 21:36, 24 April 2015 (UTC) Reply

Hi Natalyakautz, the block is for a range of ips, meaning the vandalism was not perse from your ip. I suggest you go to en:Wikipedia:IP block exemption and ask for an ip-block exemption on the English Wikipedia. This would mean that you can edit, even though the ip is blocked. All the best, Taketa (talk) 05:51, 25 April 2015 (UTC) Reply

Hi there, thanks for responding. I am having trouble asking for an ip-block exemption on English Wikipedia. The page you linked to suggested two options: 1) copy a request template to the bottom of my talk page; 2)use the Unblock Ticket Request System. I have problems with both options: 1) I am unable to edit my talk page due to the IP block, so I cannot paste the request template; 2)when I attempt to fill out the Unblock Ticket Request System form the system says "The username you entered is not currently blocked" and won't let me submit my form (because my username isn't blocked, but my IP is). I am unsure how to proceed, could you please help? Thanks.

I've left a note at w:Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#IPBE_request. --Vituzzu (talk) 20:40, 25 April 2015 (UTC) Reply
Thanks! Vituzzu, your block is now gone but I have a second IP block from another user (Elockid). However, I can now edit my talk page so I have pasted an Unblock request there. Hopefully I can get a second unblock through standard channels. Thanks again. Natalyakautz (talk) 00:24, 26 April 2015 (UTC) Reply
@Natalyakautz: for the UTRS system when it is an IP block, then add the IP address, rather than your username. You can add username in the content. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:06, 26 April 2015 (UTC) Reply

Nexus 6P (successor of Nexus 6) has been officialy announced. So, adding Nexus 6P is constructive now. You might want to protect the page instead. --122.200.1.151 03:18, 16 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Not relevant for us, please contact a local administrator on the concerned project if you think a page protection is necessary. Sa vh ñ 16:35, 22 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Requests for global (un)lock and (un)hiding

Latest comment: 9 years ago 24 comments10 people in discussion
Be sure to follow the instructions below:
  • Your request might be rejected if it doesn't include the necessary information.
  • Warning! This page is publicly viewable. If the account name is grossly insulting or contains personal information please contact a steward privately in #wikimedia-stewards connect or email your request to the stewards VRT queue at stewards-oversight@wikimedia.org (direct wiki interface) but do not post it here. Thanks.
  • Warning! This is not the place to ask for locks based on your opinion that someone is disruptive. Global locks are used exclusively against vandalism and spam, not because of content disputes, not because you think that someone deserves to be globally blocked. In such cases, you should ask for local blocks at appropriate places.
  • If you are globally locked, you should appeal your lock to stewards-appeals@wikimedia.org.
Please describe abusive activity of an account before reporting them here. Since stewards are often not active at projects the reported accounts are, things that seem obvious to you may not be equally obvious to the reviewing steward.
Temporary accounts (those with username format ~20##-#####) can not be globally locked. See #Requests_for_global_(un)block instead for them.
Instructions for making a request

Before requesting that a global account be (un)locked, please be sure that:

  1. You have evidence of cross-wiki disruption from the account(s).
  2. You can show that it is not feasible to use local-only blocks or other measures like page protection to combat the disruption.
  3. You have considered making the request in #wikimedia-stewards connect , especially for account names which will be hidden, or for urgent requests.
To make a request for an account to be locked or unlocked
Copy one of the codes below to the bottom of this section and explain why the account(s) should be locked/unlocked.
=== Global lock/unlock for Foo ===

* {{LockHide|username}}
* {{LockHide|username|hidename=1}} <!-- if you do not want the name to be visible on this page -->

Global lock for BAICAN XXX

Status: Not done

Cross-project vandal, mostly Romanian-centric, who poses as a legitimate user but effectively defaces the content by using invented words and concepts. Banned indefinitely on the Romanian Wikipedia, he keeps resurfacing on less well-maintained sister projects (Wiktionary, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, etc). --Gutza (talk) 06:15, 16 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Courtesy translation: "Hey, [Gutza], I'm not a vandal as you're lying here! I think I was blocked on ro.Wikipedia by a mafia of members of the w:Securitate who can't stand it that a Romanian who doesn't live in Romania writes, relatively independently from said mafia. I'm asking the people who investigate the case at Wikimedia to ponder things properly, [Gutza] who's complaining about me here is a user who doesn't have many contributions on ro.Wiki any more, he's fighting there mostly for his mafia." --Gutza (talk) 09:33, 16 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

I've seen this request and it must be mentioned for the record that the indefinite block on Romanian Wikipedia has been obtained by very questionable arguments by some users who had had differences of opinions for instance re titles of some articles with BAICAN and used very questionable tactics to get this user blocked. The questionable procedures consisted in hunting every edits of this user to find supposed minor mistakes and accumulation of black box warnings as reasons for blocking. There is a Romanian idiomatic expression hardly translatable in English for this tactic, mentioned here without Romanian diacritics a cauta nod in papura whose literal English translation is searching knots in reedmace . The meaning of the expression is hunting for/of mistakes.--5.15.1.32 10:30, 21 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. But if needed, I can invite the community on ro.wiki to comment on this request, and we'll all be able to tell if there is a genuine consensus, or indeed this is a result of some rogue users trying to ban this guy for no reason. I will need confirmation from a steward before inviting people to add to this conversation (I think there will be more than a few). --Gutza (talk) 15:43, 21 October 2015 (UTC) Reply
Please do not use this as a discussion board. Locking is used certain specific cases, and seeing the discussion above, it seems you aim at a global ban instead. Closing this as not done. Sa vh ñ 16:48, 22 October 2015 (UTC) Reply
The discussion above is civil because I chose to keep it so. I also wanted to offer you proof of the overwhelming consensus for locking a user who's effectively defacing all Romanian-language pages he's touching. Unfortunately there's no other way of proving this, because while the vandalism is obvious to a person speaking Romanian, it's not so for a foreigner. Imagine if I went to the Dutch Wikipedia and I started feverishly editing articles with words that don't exist in Dutch – how would you prove to a steward who doesn't understand Dutch that I'm a vandal, other than by showing proof of overwhelming consensus at the Dutch Wikipedia? And last but not least, please note carefully who's taking part in this conversation – I did my best to keep things simple, and this section has only accrued one response from BAINCAN and one response from an anonymous user in a week; I'd hardly call that a conversation. --Gutza (talk) 20:36, 22 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Global lock/unlock for Aboobackeramani

Status: In progress

Aboobackeramani (talkcontribsblockxwiki-contribs xwiki-date (alt )gblock ST lwcheckuser ) has for a couple of years tried to promote himself on :en:w, cf. en:w:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Aboobackeramani/Archive. His autobiography, en:w:Aboobacker Amani is salted.

Recently he has launched an online magazine titled Calicut Review . Calicut Review has been promoted with cross-wiki articles cf. WikiData entry. Most articles have now now been deleted, but he is edit-warring my addition of {{delete}} on ks:w:ؤشمهؤعف قثرهثص, and on ur:w:کالیکٹ ریویو, and has created ug:w:کالیکٹ ریویو today.

I bounced this off of a CU on en.w who suggested to post here for your consideration of global locking accounts.

May I suggest that the Wikidata entry is not deleted? I am continuously following another long/term cross-wiki vandal, Jose Rafael Cordero Sanchez and the deletion of his Wikidata entry has been a loss. Thanks, --Sam Sailor (talk) 21:15, 18 October 2015 (UTC) Reply

Ping: Long-time cross-wiki vandaliser User:影武者

Greetings, stewards. This long-time cross-wiki vandaliser called User:影武者 has recently spreaded his vandalism from Chinese Wikipedia to Cantonese Wikipedia and renewed his relentless attack on User:Lanwi11 with new sock-puppets with very provocative names like "支那賤畜蘭維一仇視猶太人" (lit. "Low-born Chink ork Lanwi11 hates Jews."), "蘭維一想插山口理子的陰道" (lit. "Lanwi11 wants to bang Rina Nakanishi in her vagina."), etc.. Based on his pattern of vandalism, it would be only a matter of time for him to spread his vandalism to the Incubator. Hydriz told me it would be a good idea to ping youse, so here I am. Please keep your eyes open. 【粵語 文學大使 殘陽孤侠粵維辭典起錨! 04:15, 21 October 2015 (UTC) Reply
