Steward requests/Bot status

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Mr wikilover (talk | contribs) at 04:02, 15 April 2015 (Bot status requests ). It may differ significantly from the current version .
For bot status on Meta-Wiki, see the bot policy and request page.
This page hosts requests for a Bot flag on a Wikimedia wiki with no bureaucrats. Please read the instructions before posting a request. Request to remove own permission should be done in SRP.

Please only make request here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community (i.e., don't list your bot here if you haven't consulted the local wiki for at least a week, or whatever local policies dictate). Previous requests are archived.

Instructions

Before posting here

Before posting here, please check the following points:

  1. If there is a bureaucrat on the local wiki (visit Special:ListUsers/bureaucrat on the wiki to check): Please ask them to fulfill your request using Special:UserRights on the relevant wiki.
  2. Before requesting access here, make sure to obtain consensus on the local wiki if there is a community (see the index of request pages). If there is no local community, request on this page with a note to that effect. You can ask local bot flag directly here for some wikis in some cases (see automatic approval).
  3. Remember to read the local project's bot policy. This should be linked from the local bot request page; a few are listed below. DO NOT post your request here without having fulfilled the local policies first, and having waited for at least a week to gauge community opinion. In the case that the project does not have a local bot policy, the global bot policy applies.

Making a request

  1. Place the following code at the bottom of the "Bot status requests" section below:
    === Bot name@xxproject ===
    {{sr-request
    | status = <!--don't change this line-->
    | domain =
    | user name =
    | discussion =
    }}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

    You can use following form when applying global bot status:

    === Global bot status for <yourbotname> ===
    {{sr-request
    | status = <!--don't change this line-->
    | domain = global<!--don't change this line-->
    | user name =
    | discussion =
    }}
    {{indent|''Not ending before {{subst:#time:j F Y H:i|+2 week}} UTC''}}
    (your remarks) ~~~~

  2. Fill in the values:
    • 'domain': the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
    • 'user name': the bot's user name (like "ExampleBot"). Leave it blank if you're requesting access for multiple bots.
    • 'discussion': a link to the local vote or discussion about the bot (for example, "[[ex:Wikipedia:Bots#ExampleBot]]"). Notes: If there is no local vote or discussion, please say so below the template and explain why not. If there's no community, implement the standard bot policy instead.
  3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Global bot status requests

Global bots are enabled on most wikis using the standard bot policy (see list of global bot wikis and global bot access requirements). Request will typically be left open for several days to allow comments. Please add requests at the bottom of this section.

Removed per Steward_requests/Bot_status/2011-03#Removal_of_global_bot_status:_Mjbmrbot. Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 06:16, 17 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

@Mjbmr: What will this bot do? Interwiki is held by Wikidata except Wiktionary and Wikiversity.--GZWDer (talk) 10:53, 8 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Yes, I'm running it in wikidata, I gather information from various projects, mainly this flag helps to bypass low limits of API, secondly helps marking edits as patrolled where I might run by any community request or where I'm active. Or might run to create or edit user pages by requests. and specially it avoids flooding. Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 11:11, 8 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Not all of the possible activities you describe are covered by Bot policy#Global bots. So if we separate those activities that are permissible under Bot policy#Global bots and the other activities, it is my view that:
  • regarding activities that are permissible under Bot policy#Global bots, I am not yet convinced that the prerequisites ("only maintain interlanguage links or fix double-redirects; the bot must already be active on several wikis ...") are fulfilled, and
  • regarding other activites, I would suggest that you ask the community for local bot flags where you would like to make bot edits. --UV (talk) 20:01, 8 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
If you need higher API limits, there is a special global group for this. Ruslik (talk) 20:06, 8 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
I would like run this to fix double redirects. Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 20:17, 8 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
I don't think this is needed as there're many bots doing it in many wikis. To do it in several Persian wikis, please request them locally.--GZWDer (talk) 14:37, 28 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Persian?! Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 15:18, 28 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Which wikis do you like to work on? There're nothing to do in a lot of wiki as other bots are doing it.--GZWDer (talk) 01:03, 1 March 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
We talked about this before. Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 01:07, 1 March 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Dexbot@global

Status: In progress

I want to remove Link FA/GA/FL in wikis that doesn't use these templates to populate categories since they are migrated to wikidata and I already did this task in these wikis 'fa','en','pl','de','sv','zh','ja','fi','uk','tg','he','nl','hu','ce','et','az','el','ckb', 'als'. I already have global bot status for interwikis but I don't think it's enough Amir (talk) 18:03, 23 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

This is outside the scope of global bots. Ruslik (talk) 19:55, 25 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Well, that's not for certain, it could be considered a type of "interwiki" bot. --Rs chen 7754 20:16, 25 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
I agree with Rschen7754, This is related to interwiki links Amir (talk) 00:18, 27 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Even a interwiki bot with global flag might have objections from any local community like we saw before, but that doesn't mean you can't run a bot anywhere. you can always run a bot by request by a member of any local community or on your own decision, we already have a bot running across wikis to fix redirects, that's useful, and doesn't mean the bot have permissions from all communities, as long as the bot doesn't do anything wrong no objections either blocks were made. Mjbmr (discussioncontribs) 01:08, 27 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Since the FA/GA/FL data is now stored in Wikidata I see no reason that local wikis override this with local templates. I support the bot task. -- Magioladitis (talk) 07:38, 31 January 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
Have all badges been imported? If yes, then this should not be problem. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 13:10, 21 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Matěj Suchánek I think now we are a step forward. All badges have been imported and most of Wikipedia started deleting the templates. I am searching for a way to delete the template in the smaller Wikipedias too. We should only leave the templates untouched in those wikipedias that use the templates as category trackers too. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:03, 25 February 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Can we resume this? We could leave messages to all projects if they would like the link to be removed before performing any action. -- Magioladitis (talk) 19:47, 22 March 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

We left messages to all projects and tagged all templates with no transclusions. Still, some projects do not have sysops. -- Magioladitis (talk) 23:37, 1 April 2015 (UTC) [reply ]

Removal of global bot status

Please be sure to provide a short explanation on the current situation, along with links to the bot's contribution and an announcement in your community of the abuse. Previous requests are archived.

Old bots on Wikivoyage in Swedish

Kindly remove the bot status on Wikivoyage in Swedish for the bots listed below. They have not been active there for a very long time. If the owners would like to regain bot status on swwv, they are welcome to apply. Riggwelter (talk) 11:34, 12 April 2015 (UTC) [reply ]
