Neegy, also known as Neegie, Neggy or simply as the Neegy Meme, is a slang term and brainrot meme based around a viral Fortnite clip in which a kid gets angry and tells someone, "Man SYFBAU neegy!" The meme commonly uses the term alongside an image and a character depicting a gold, caricature-like man with exaggerated facial proportions, similar to Manny Heffley from Diary of a Wimpy Kid, often circled in red while the audio of the kid yelling plays.

The meme appeared in mid-July 2026 and primarily spread on TikTok as the original sound from the Fortnite voice chat was edited and added to other clips or remixed into songs. The term is purportedly used as an alternative for the N-word, with many attributing it to young Mexican or Latino boys, especially those associated with the Edgar stereotype, which is commonly depicted in Neegy memes. The quote from the clip is also sometimes shortened to "SYFBAUN," which means "shut your fucking bitch as up neegy."

Origin

The earliest known video sharing the clip in which a kid says, "Man, shut your fucking bitch as up neegy," was posted to TikTok^[1] by user 1104yyh on July 9th, 2026. The video features someone spectating a Fortnite game as the players are chatting, with the gold "Neegy" character overlaid on the clip.

The video, which included the description, "new slang," garnered over 2.1 million views, 162,300 likes and 1,730 comments in three weeks.

Many TikTokers in the comment section claimed the slang has been around for years, with several people attributing it to young Mexican slang.

Spread

Over the following days and weeks, the Fortnite clip and slang spread online as it was remixed into songs and used in memes, especially alongside the gold-colored character that became associated with the meme.

For example, on July 12th, 2026, TikTok^[2] user user.._peezy posted a clip from Fortnite set to the audio with the text, "I'm crine. Bro really said 'Neegy,'" receiving over 3,600 likes and 60 comments in nine days.

On July 13th, 2026, TikToker^[3] ricowld included the clip in a video alongside several other viral catchphrases and Fortnite quotes, such as "I Be Yelling Out Gang Gang," garnering roughly 2,500 likes and 30 comments in eight days.

On July 14th, TikTok^[4] user myonlysecretaccount55 then reposted the clip with a front-facing version of the memetic character, garnering over 511,500 likes and 3,200 comments in a week, significantly boosting the meme's virality on the platform over the following days.

Also on July 14th, 2026, X^[6] / Twitter user dihllua tweeted the clip alongside a post about a Neegy meme coin based on its virality, garnering roughly 38,000 views, 170 likes and 30 replies in a week.

On July 19th, 2026, Instagram ^[5] user jj_yuddy posted a Reel of someone lip-dubbing the audio and then dancing to a remix of the quote turned into a song, receiving over 9,600 likes in two days.
