Unlike most Copy Abilities, which give Kirby more skills, Mini removes some of Kirby's latent abilities. Mini cannot hover, air gun, slide, or use the Cell Phone. However, Mini can enter small passageways that couldn't otherwise be accessed. When Mini enters a door, the ability is expelled. Mini is obtained from the Minnyenemy, which can also be summoned by the Boxymid-boss.
As Mini can only be used within the room it is found, Mini can only be used in certain locations. Mini can be found in Mustard Mountain, Carrot Castle, and Olive Ocean.
In Kirby's Adventure, unused sprites for a smaller Kirby can be found. This set even comes with basic movement and an "ability presentation" sprite where Kirby shrinks. Masahiro Sakurai confirmed in a 1993 interview that an ability causing Kirby to shrink was planned to appear in Kirby's Adventure.[1] It is possible that the developers of Kirby & The Amazing Mirror were aware of this scrapped ability from the interview in question, from reading old HAL Laboratory development notes, or from seeing the leftover sprites in Kirby's Adventure's code.
Mini is the only Copy Ability that can only be used in the room is it obtained in.
UFO has a similar distinction, where it can only be used in the stage from which it was obtained in Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, and cannot be brought to Central Circle in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror.
In Kirby: Squeak Squad, a small Kirby appears in Magic Kirby's idle animation; this may be a reference to the Mini ability.
