Alternative approach on Internationalization trough user input and display manipulation

Posted by jacmkno on October 8, 2013 at 8:50pm

I have created several multi-language Drupal based sites and I found that for most cases, in order to implement multilanguage support, it is easier to maintain per-language Drupal sites, than one site with multilingual support.

I believe this is because the approach used by the community on multi-language support is to implement multi-language compatible features on every single module created for Drupal. I believe that with this approach there is never going to be a complete multi-language Drupal distribution because there will always be critical features missing i18n compatibility.

Different original languages inside one website

Posted by Fiable.biz on December 10, 2012 at 6:52am

Hello.

So far, in Drupal 7 and contributed module "internationalization" 7.x-1.7, "internationalisation" usually means one, site-wide, original language translated into different languages, which is a very centralised kind of internationalization.

In Drupal 8, will it be possible to have different original languages in one web site?

Taxonomy in a multilingual environment

Posted by kafitz on March 8, 2012 at 7:41am

The website I want to discuss has the following configuration (Drupal version 7.12):
domain.be/nl-BE/ => Belgian website, Dutch language
domain.be/fr-BE/ => Belgian website, French language
domain.fr => French website (always French)
domain.nl => Dutch website (always Dutch)

So, there are 4 languages (Belgian NL, Belgian FR, French FR, Dutch NL). The Belgian websites have a language prefix (nl-BE, fr-BE) and there are three different language domains (domain.be, domain.fr and domain.nl). All those settings are configured in Languages (admin/config/regional/language).

handling language dependent domain names

CIRA, the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, is moving to implement internationalized domain names that will support a few accented characters common in French.

We see more and more organizations that want to have their domain name reflect their organization name and brand as localized in various languages, such as xfoundation.ca and fondationx.ca.

Why do translated pages show on blog?

Posted by masakmaeda on January 18, 2012 at 12:57am

Hi,

Getting started with Drupal. Using Drupal 7 started traslating some pages and noticed that each page I translate is generating a blog entry. Has anybody experienced that? How can I stop my translated pages from showing on the blog?

Thanks.

Conversion of D6 site to D7 and from node translation to field translation

Posted by slucas on November 9, 2011 at 3:05pm

Hello,

I've developed a d6 site and trying to complete its internationalization
http://www.archiref.com/

It's a site where the content : images of architecture, projects, are mainly sync between both language (french and english).
Only pure text field could be relevant to node translation and I have got very little on each content type (1 or 2 / 20-20 fields)

The other fields are taxonomy in closed vocabulary (that I set as localizable)

Internationalization

Posted by laraz on October 7, 2011 at 4:12pm

Hola,

Estoy utilizando el módulo i18n y me funciona correctamente hasta que hay una URL de tipo :

provincia/Alicante?term_node_tid_depth=3212

y que al traducirla al inglés me modifica la URL por

en/provincia/Alicante

por lo que no me funciona correctamente el select que hay porque ha eliminado de la URL:

?term_node_tid_depth=3212

hay alguna manera que al cambiar el idoma no me elimine ?term_node_tid_depth=3212

Gracias.

Dynamic default language for translation

Posted by igalmal on September 30, 2011 at 4:07am

Hello,

I am new here and also new to Drupal. Need your advice.

We have multilingual a site. The default language is English and most of the languages will be translated from English. However, we have language like Ukrainian which make sense to translate from Russian, so not translated pages will still remain in Russian. Most of Ukrainians can read Russian better than English; That may be also true for some Arabic languages with French as a second language.

Let me know if you know how to do Dynamic default language for translation.
Thank you.

Strul med tvåspråkig drupalsida - nyckfullt

Posted by markus.lar on May 12, 2011 at 8:17am

Hej!
