DrupalconSF libraries BoF

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

The good: we're having a library-related panel!
The bad: it's on Wednesday morning, on the last day!

I wanted to nudge the Libraries group members to start coming up with a time for a BoF. (BoF, for the uninitiated, means "Birds of a Feather," or an unofficial meeting of like-minded individuals.)

Kate, Tammy, and I will all be in San Francisco by Sunday afternoon, but we're getting together that evening to review our presentation, so I think it's safe to say we aren't available before Monday morning.

If you're interested, post and let's figure out a time that works for everyone.

My schedule

Posted by domesticat on April 12, 2010 at 1:20pm

Since I asked, I'll start by answering my own question:

I'm arriving Sunday morning from Minneapolis. Sunday evening we're reviewing our presentation, and for some part of Tuesday afternoon I'll definitely be participating in the DrupalChix BoF. I'm actually taking a couple of vacation days after the conference, and my husband and I are staying in San Francisco until Saturday, so I'm also potentially available for something more social and leisurely after the convention officially ends.

My schedule

To keep the ball rolling, I'll be getting into San Francisco on Friday evening, reviewing on Sunday with Amy and Tammy, on Monday morning presenting about accessibility at 9:45AM (come if you're interested in web accessible themes and modules! :) ) and from there, sky's the limit. I too am stay through Saturday, so post-conf activities sound lovely and are doable for me as well.

The post on drupal4lib

Posted by worldlinemine on April 12, 2010 at 1:56pm

The post on drupal4lib prompted me to post my interest here. I am not putting on any presentations, though I would be interested in attending a BOF related to libraries. Unfortunately, I will not be available after Thursday morning, so my preference would be anytime prior to then and not during the actual session times during the day.

I'll be here all week, hope

I'll be here all week, hope this comes together!

My schedule

I leave Wednesday evening. I'm up for something right after our panel or before on Monday or Tuesday.

I could try to make one after the panel

I am going to be insanely busy (or perhaps just insane) managing the event, but I will need a break sooner or later.

Monday will be my toughest day, but I will try to get to any meetup you have.

I'd love to get together for

I'd love to get together for a BOF - Monday and Tuesday evenings are probably best for me. And I'm looking forward to attending all the library sessions!

One of these slots?

Posted by markj on April 13, 2010 at 2:59pm

I'm up for a BoF. Are we thinking of booking one of the slots available at http://sf2010.drupal.org/conference/birds-feather or having a drink somewhere?

Count me in as well

I'd love to join the meetup. My schedule's pretty open.

Cheers,

Bill

any update on this?

Posted by mcritchlow on April 16, 2010 at 7:10pm

Looking forward to the conference! Is there any consensus on a Libraries BoF?

Cheers,

Matt

Wednesday after the Libraries presentation.

Let's do the BoF immediately after the Sssshhhh! presentation on Wednesday. We'll all be together and it'll be fresh on our minds.

One session removed from Kate and Amy's session.

On the schedule. See you all there!

Reconnecting

Posted by bradspry on April 23, 2010 at 6:17pm

Hello all! I attended and loved the Sssshhhhh! presentation, the BOF, and lunch afterwards! I'm trying to reconnect with everyone I met there. I'm better with faces than names... If you met me, please contact me; I'd really like to make our connection more solid.

Enjoyed the Shhhh!

Enjoyed the Shhhh! Presentation and the couple of BoFs I went to. I'm fairly new to groups.drupal.org, would love to keep in touch with people.

Enjoyed the program also....

Hi everyone!
My name is gwyn and I also enjoyed the session :). I was wondering: how are you currently creating subject guides for your libraries? For example, we want a page that includes weblinks, databases (From our main database content type that is loaded by taxonomy), text ,images, etc. Any help with this would be great. I know you all will have some ideas. :).

This needs its own thread

Posted by highermath on April 25, 2010 at 4:22pm

It is buried here.

I suggest that you start a thread on subject guides. It is a perpetually hot topic among academic and larger public libraries. You should also consider posting on the drupal4lib mailing list.

I can tell you that the requirements for subject guides vary widely from institution to institution as do the implementation methods, so this is a great topic.

Some real successes

Posted by highermath on April 25, 2010 at 4:17pm

I thought that both the session and the BoF were big successes.

The session -- a first for libraries at DrupalCon! -- drew about 100 folks. The fact that it wasn't the smallest or even close to the smallest is a huge win. We always new that Drupal was important to libraries. Now we have demonstrated that libraries are important to Drupal.

The packed BoF was great. We had a several folks who are active in the libraries tech communities join us for the first time.

All and all, this bodes very well for the strength of Drupal in the library world.

I would agree, highermath. It was awesome to meet everyone. I am truly inspired.
