Digital Signature

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to ask a general question of the group regarding digital signatures.

A digital signature in the truest sense links a unique document and it's contents to the "signature" of the person signing it, and the combination of the two constitutes the digital signature.

What I'm trying to find out is if anyone has done something similar to this:

A 13 year old uses an online registration form to try and obtain a library card. Because library policy is that a person must be at least 14 to get their own library card without parental approval, they are denied an online registration (it asks for date of birth), and asked to come to the library in person with their parent or guardian to get a card.

In the above scenario, has anyone done anything similar, or can anyone think of a way that would allow a parent or guardian to "sign" and indicate that it's ok for the child to get their own library card?

BTW, cards created with the online registration tool are temporary (90 days), requiring that the person registering bring in identification to the library so the expiration date can be adjusted.

At this point, every possible solution should be considered in play. The purpose of the post is to see if anyone has something already that could be used, or built upon.

Regards,

Mark
