Is anyone using a room booking module?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Setting up a calendar system for events with room bookings as we have over 20 rooms in our system and need to ensure not over-booking. I am trying to use Resource Booking module: https://drupal.org/project/resource_booking and right now having difficulty with multiple events, like Monday night series for 6 weeks.

wondering if anyone has used that module or has other solutions for booking rooms for events.
thanks

Date iCal

The Date iCal module lets you create fields that have repeating rules, that might be one part of a bigger solution:
https://drupal.org/project/date_ical

But, no, we're not using Drupal for room booking.

stephanieshea;

I'm facing the same challenge at the moment too. I'm trying out various modules, but most of them are for hotel room bookings. We're currently using google calendars to do our scheduling. I'm looking at both scheduling modules or modules that integrate with google calendar. I'll report my finding if I come across something that looks promising.

I have been working with Resource Booking for a while hoping to use that: https://drupal.org/project/resource_booking

but now am considering merci: https://drupal.org/project/merci
or resource conflict: https://drupal.org/project/resource_conflict

leaning toward merci right now as the documentation is very good and the developer seems committed to the module. Just started playing with it last night so I have more learning and testing to do.

The one thing that does not seem possible is multiple events...meaning an event series has to be booked one at a time. I don't want to do that as other staff will be entering events and if it was just me having to deal with entering each in a series I wouldn't mind. But I may have to go that route at least til there is a multi-booking solution. I just installed the node clone module which should help with that: https://drupal.org/project/node_clone

Room Reservations Module

Posted by ghaya on June 10, 2013 at 6:31am

Hi,

Take a look at this sandbox module made for library room bookings https://drupal.org/sandbox/BobHumphrey/1834546
it is not yet officially released as a drupal module but when I tested it briefly it did seem fully functional, fairly easy to configure and is being actively used by the library that developed it. It is just available for drupal 6 however so it won't help you if you are using drupal 7.

Possible Lead

My boss went to the Drupal For Libraries BOF at DrupalCon Portland. She said that someone there was talking about their module for doing just that. You might look there (http://listserv.uic.edu/archives/drupal4lib.html) or post a note to the listserv to find out more.

Study Room sandbox project

I was at the Drupal for Libraries BOF in Portland and got information about the study room module. It seems really promising based on discussion with the developer. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I plan to do so in the next week or so. Here is a link to the sandbox project: (https://drupal.org/sandbox/seworthi/2007210).

Room Reservation

Posted by ccthompson on July 22, 2013 at 4:51pm

Hi,
We wrote our own Room Reservation module for students, faculty, and staff to check out study rooms, classrooms, and Library "pods". We will be going live by Fall. I was at the drupalcon BOF in Portland and one other person created their own. Also, I heard that Bluespark has one call DrupalRooms but I believe it is more for full days. OUrs RR module let's book in 1 hour increments and there are different rules/policies for Graduate and Undergraduate students. - cheers.

Is it D7 compatible?

I know that one of the room reservation modules that was shown in Portland was only D6, is yours D7?

Room Reservations Module

Posted by Bob Humphrey on June 10, 2013 at 5:11pm

I am the developer of the Room Reservations Module mentioned in the comment above. This module has been used by patrons of Randall Library, University of North Carolina Wilmington at http://library.uncw.edu/room_reservations to make nearly 11,000 room reservations during the past year. The feedback we have received has been very positive, with most users saying that the application is easy to understand and convenient to use. I am working to get the module approved as an official Drupal project. Because it is such a large module, this is a very time consuming undertaking. if you are interested in trying out the sandbox version, I would be happy to answer any questions you have and provide support to you while you set up and use the module.

Module Broken?

Posted by Hanscraft on June 27, 2013 at 7:11pm

Hello, Bob!

We're very excited for your module. I've installed it on a Drupal 6 website. Is this an appropriate place to ask you about error messages? If not, please let me know where! I am attaching my comments below:

Error message:
user warning: Table 'drupal_mylibrary.room_reservations' doesn't exist query: SELECT * FROM room_reservations WHERE date = '2013-06-27' AND deleted = 'N' ORDER BY time in /home/www/drupal/sites/mylibrary.org/modules/contrib/room_reservations/controller/room_reservations_calendar.controller.inc on line 119.

Below this message is the little two tabbed calendar. I noticed on our website and on your demo site, there is no way to click on a time to reserve. Where there should be vertical columns with rows, there are just empty vertical columns. I'm using Chrome to view it. However, I see your module working perfectly on UNCW's website.

I sincerely hope that we'll be able to get your module up and running here!

Hi Bob
thank you. I know there is a drupal 6 version...is there a 7? If so I'd love to try it.

Hi Stephanie,
I'm sorry but there is no drupal 7 version at this time.

MERCI Reservations

Posted by epbarta on June 11, 2013 at 4:12pm

I've had a lot of luck harnessing the MERCI Reservation module to book rooms (https://drupal.org/project/merci) for my library's site: http://www.warwicklibrary.org

We allow the public to submit plain text, unconfirmed reservations on our meeting rooms, and our secretary checks them against our policies and confirms them. MERCI checks for any overlaps in time and has a nice interface for displaying the times that the rooms are already booked, and by setting the date field to allow only half-hour increments, I can ensure that every reservation will have at least a half-hour in between.

Can patrons directly book through MERCI?

Posted by kwfinken on June 13, 2013 at 12:30pm

It seems a little unclear from reading the module description and your post. Am I understanding right that the public can submit a request through the module and then it gets approved by your staff? Does the system prevent two tentative bookings on the same room at the same time (I assume it prevents this when a booking is approved)? Is it possible to have automatic approval? Can the public see the available times for the resources/rooms?

Sorry I never saw this post,

Posted by epbarta on February 20, 2014 at 2:24pm

Sorry I never saw this post, but the answer to all your questions is yes. MERCI holds the time/date for unconfirmed rooms until they are reviewed, so even if our secretary can't get to the review process for a few days, no one will be overlapped.

I'm starting an investigation

Posted by killua99 on June 13, 2013 at 8:32am

I was looking for a module to handle rooms booking and payment system, and this one https://drupal.org/project/rooms looks very well for me. Have an integration with commerce (payment system) and the module looks good.

Just sharing knowledge.

"rooms" Not useable for most library situations

Posted by kwfinken on June 13, 2013 at 12:26pm

While the project does look interesting, it is not usable for most library situations because it assumes rooms will be booked for an entire day. Most libraries are booking rooms/resources for an hour here and an hour there.
