Your thoughts on GreatAlbum Genealogy Data Model

After the really great post by lhridley on her First stab at data structures for a Drupal 7 based Genealogy site, I'm hoping this will garner robust feedback as well. This is for the launch of the GreatAlbum site.

Hi Drupal Boston, Alumni & Genealogy groups. I was pretty active in these groups about 10 years ago. Been out of it for a while, but jumping back in now as I prepare to build & launch a site that's been my dream for 20 years!

Functional Drupal 7 Family History Website

Posted by mike_san on February 27, 2019 at 9:05pm

Over the years I have developed a functional Drupal 7 based genealogy site.
It was created using contributed modules and a slightly modified Bootstrap subtheme.
Entity Contruction Kit https://www.drupal.org/project/eck, Panels https://www.drupal.org/project/panels and Views https://www.drupal.org/project/views do most of the heavy lifting.

Take a look at it here https://sandesancestry.net

First stab at data structures for a Drupal 7 based Genealogy site

Posted by lisa.rae on June 18, 2014 at 8:40pm

After coming up for air from a grueling client project, I turned attention back to Drupal genealogy. Attached is a PDF document outlining some proposed data structures for creating a Drupal based genealogy site. These structures are assuming Drupal 7 as the base site.

The content type most likely to change would be the Source and Source Citation content types, as I'm still studying the best layout and information to capture for accurate source citations across the various source types.

I compiled a list of genealogy related work from searches on the drupal site and am posting them here in case it helps anyone else to see what has been done the past two years or so. Feel free to add to this list if you find something I missed.

Here's a list of features that a Genealogy module or distribution might have. Please add to the list as you see fit, and/or add your username to one of the right hand columns beside a feature indicating your vote on whether it's Essential, or a Plugin (nice to have).

Future of Drupal Genealogy

Posted by AldenC on May 9, 2014 at 2:29am

I have noticed that there is very little activity in developing even 3rd party integration for Drupal. I have tried the phpgedview with limited success. It still feels like two sites. The TNG Integration module seems to provide for sharing user account sign in, but little more.

I would like to make a genealogy site that would take advantage of Drupal's gallery and image management capabilities. I will use it to provide a photo sharing feature of high resolution photos with my extended family.

webtrees

Posted by k_and_j on February 16, 2014 at 7:10am

I came across webtrees and found this post from a couple years ago: https://drupal.org/node/983016

This seems like a good idea to me - rather than build a new module from scratch, incorporate existing open-source software into Drupal's CMS. For me, the advantage is that members of my family don't need to log in separately for photo-sharing and genealogy, etc.. but can see it all on one site.

Drupal 7 Genealogy Site

Posted by mike_san on August 7, 2013 at 2:36pm

I have developed a family history website based on Drupal 7 which works quite well.

The only minor downside is that you need to enter references twice and there are no automatically generated family trees.
I am not a programmer or web developer but I would be happy to share what I have and to collaborate with anybody on taking this further.
Take a look at my site at http://sandesancestry.net.
I am busy creating a document on the complete structure of the site and I will post a link to it here once completed.

limited access to his immediate family

Posted by henrys212 on October 10, 2010 at 4:43pm

I plan on importing over 3000 individuals that I have researched using the family tree module. Since the family tree consist of so many different families which are all connected to me or to my wife but not all are connected to each other. I would like the site to have it set up in groups so each individual person will only have limited access to his immediate family.

Genealogy. What the state of development?

Posted by landike on May 28, 2010 at 11:14am

I've reviewd 3 modules from Drupal Modules for Genealogy
Currently I'am searching other PHP/Drupal Based ways to work with Genealogy/Family Tree development.

Also I'm trying to research GEDCOM alternatives

And I am interested in this work, because I have plans about My Family Researching Results and future work.

So how it is now?
What most used modules are?
Which modules are being in development process good.

Integration of TNG with a Drupal Site - KYFamilyNotes

Posted by geekherder on October 18, 2009 at 12:06am

Hi All, I am kind of new at this so bear with me. I used to do genealogy but dropped out while I was getting my MBA and dealing with other things. I am currently in the process of integrating "The Next Generation of Genealogy" v7.1.1 with Drupal v6.x. I have gotten TNG working with an uploaded GEDCOM file for test purposes. What I succeeded in doing was to add the insertFrame module to the mix and then put in the link to the TNG site within. I am also using the TNGintegration module.

Drupal Modules for Genealogy

Posted by Anonymous on August 8, 2009 at 10:36pm

Thought that I would start a list of the various modules and threads for creating a Drupal-based family tree.

TNGintegrate http://drupal.org/project/tngintegrate
Family Tree 2 http://drupal.org/project/family
Genmod http://drupal.org/project/genmod

http://drupal.org/node/395586
http://drupal.org/node/25589

Was also wondering if others have genealogies 'working' on their sites whether they could pack them up as 'features' [see this video http://www.developmentseed.org/blog/2009/may/29/making-and-using-feature... http://drupal.org/project/features ].

TNG

Posted by desiredbard on July 8, 2009 at 7:27am

Hi All

I am a complete newbe to Drupal

Previously I had a placeholder at my www address and two subdomains for my photoalbum (gallery2) and Genealogy (TNG)

Now drupal seemed a great solution design and user consistency base. It was getting awkward with being logged in to one application and not the other etc etc

For Gallery 2 there were great installation instructions...for TNG none
I installed the plugin simmilar to the way i installed the g2 plugin, however there was no configuration and the page link ends in a blank

Any help?

Kind Regards
Bas

Genealogy with views and cck (and RDF?)

Posted by pkej on March 9, 2009 at 2:15am

In http://drupal.org/node/395586 I suggest a way to create genealogies via cck and views. I am working on implementing it on a drupal site, but wondered if there is any input these groups can provide me with:

I would like to add that I plan on primarily using prepopulate in creating links for this, but I can see that some stuff will need some module code in order to be user friendly.
