The treadmill desk

Posted by christefano on May 10, 2010 at 3:47am

One of the coolest productivity hacks I've ever seen is the homemade treadmill desk by fellow Drupalero, Chris Shattuck. I've been slowly freeing up more and more space in my office so that I can do this, too.

Has anyone else built a treadmill desk like Chris has or gotten one of those walkstations? What other fitness hacks have you done or been thinking of?

Passive core workout - using a medicine ball instead of the office chair.

Posted by scripthead on May 11, 2010 at 1:13am

One of the passive ways to get a workout while you work is to use a medicine ball instead of your office chair. Using a medicine ball will destabilize your core and will force it to work to keep you upright. This article describes how to get started.

Training Resources

Posted by willieseabrook on May 17, 2010 at 10:46am

I just stumbled across this.

I'm a Drupaler who, in December 2009, was on 30 cigarettes a day, and like most code monkey's had a horrific diet of coffee (to wind up), beer (to wind down) and other crap, and barely being able to go on a vigorous walk without puffing like a 90 year old man.

Now I've quit smoking, rarely drink, eat properly, can comfortably run 10KM and I've put on 10KG of mostly muscle.

Achieved via running/swimming/biking/bodyweight exercises, then moving on to the gym (weights)

It took 4 months to achieve that.

Raw Foods Diet

Posted by myke on May 18, 2010 at 6:52am

Has anybody in here heard of the raw foods diet? Eating nothing but raw, uncooked fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts?

I saw another post advocating fruit for breakfast and dinner...

If you go to fitday.com, you can add the foods you eat and check your calories and nutrient intakes...

For breakfast, eat all the raw, uncooked fruits you can... if you are eating an acidic fruit (oranges, etc.) then eat that first...

Wii Fit Plus

Posted by Chris Charlton on May 21, 2010 at 12:25pm

When it rains and I cannot walk my dog outside I stay inside and use my Nintendo Wii Fit Plus. I know it seems fake to those who do not own one. But seriously. Twenty minutes alone on Wii Fit will not do a whole lot but at least you got up. When you hit the 30 minute mark there's indication you've definitely have been working out. The variety is the most enjoyable part of the program as some of the games are silly fun and if you have pets you can add them to the game and they appear next to you in some workouts and its cuter than I'd like to admit.
